So, nice of you people that you are helping those newbies who lost their position of jr. member after some changes. Thanks

Please don't call them newbies - they aren't new at all.

How to being categorized as member that support newbie ?

Do you mean a newbie or a spambie?

To help newbies you need to offer training and advice, and that is more work than just giving merits to spambies to get on a list.

Welcome to the club. Smiley

I've almost given up hunting for posts that are worthy of merit. I decided that it was better to encourage good members to start good discussions, and use those as a base for meritable posts. I still believe that this is a good approach, but it seems to have fallen by the wayside a bit, especially as many of the potential awardees can't be bothered to join.

I'm also a bit pissed off that the guys awarding merits to the spambies are being lauded as supporters of newbies. Actually the reverse is true, and they make it harder for good new members to find a place here. I think it is time for the bifurcation of Bitcoin Talk, and the spambies can continue in the underworld, and allow the regrowth of the real Bitcoin Talk to begin.

I am indeed.  I'm also out of sMerits and I'm waiting with bated breath till the day I get topped up.

I'm far down on this list, but I definitely support newbies IF they make good posts.  I've been hunting outside of Meta lately, looking for good ones by lower-ranked members (not just Newbies) and they are hard to find--and then there's the issue of having to check for plagiarism before giving someone merit.  I got burned once on this and almost got burned a couple of times, and it's annoying to say the least.

Getting new members here posting in the English section who can actually write well is so rare.  And it's rare when someone actually writes something that's interesting.  There are so many generic posts being written that I can't bring myself to merit them even if they make sense.  The newbies I actually sent merit to didn't write outstanding posts necessarily, but they were very good relative to the other ones in the threads they were posted in.

Note:  I don't think any of the newbies I merited were for posts in Meta in the last 3 days.  I haven't checked but I'm pretty sure.

interesting to see the top 4 merit givers are already red trusted and merited about 200 newbie, i haven't check yet the merited post, so i can be wrong, but i guess this is not going to end up well

Gave them a  quick look and it seems like a huge farm atleast for some of them.

I do not think that these posts could be considered as good even if we strecth it:

Allo the intervals between awards is suspucious.

The past red trust, the change of merit awarding behaviour shortly after new restrictions and the timing of merit awarding with 20 sec intervals is enough factors for me to think that it is farming after all.

The real question will the mods have time to investigate these kind of cases , will this behaviour reveal big farms or let them be,

I think it's getting close to the time Bitcoin Talk allows a bifurcation. Let the underworld go down one fork, and the Bitcoin/Crypto discussions happen on the other.

I just ranked up 2 3 more newbies in the altcoins/mining subforum bringing my total up to 7 8. It's fairly easy to find newbies making decent posts in the more technical subfora, vs., say, here in meta (or those cesspools of spam, the discussion subfora for either bitcoin or altcoins), and I haven't found nearly as much posting in spam megathreads or bounty reports by those newbies who show an interest in mining.

Conversely, most of the merit abuse seems to be occurring in the altcoins/announcements subforum; especially common is ANN thread starters meriting apparently random shitposts in their own threads. Consequently, I'm thinking of starting a thread to collect examples of such abuse to make it convenient for DT members to go paint the abusers red.

P.S. - please don't PM me to asking for a review of your posts, and definitely don't ask if you can buy a merit.

EDIT - I forgot to say I think that getting marked with a "spambies" rank if you make x number of posts without getting a single merit is an excellent idea!

Thank you for this post of yours. Since the demotion that happened earlier this week I was really contemplating if there are people giving merits in the first place before giving strong comments on the demoted newbies. This post gives peace to my heart that indeed there are people who are doing also their part in this forum. This encourages me. To be honest, I stopped for few days to also see where I am lacking and where I can improve. I can see hope as I also move forward to what is better for the purpose of fhis forum.

This user is now a merit source I believe.

I think he was stating not so long ago (a week or two) he was not, or at least he never applied to be one as far as i know. However nobody could complain if he was added to the recent 36 new merit sources silently.  Smiley

I took it as a list of the people who are actively following the below recommendation.

If a newbie posts something that could be even called good, then give them 1 merit.

Especially for such messages?

You can also check this post with 5 merits which are post September 17, 2018, 01:14:43 PM: 5 to nityans for Re: 💰🚀[ANN][100% AIRDROP] CataloniaCash - Support & Decentralize Independence!🚀💰

Just separate or better not include red trust members on this.

I think it would be better to remove it, and to disallow signatures for both newbies and juniors.

I think that is the best way to handle it, also a little shocked I am not on the list

We need an " I don't merit spambies" badge.

Well this thread has achieved one thing - I've added that message to my personal text.

I would suggest that we include a membership time in the newbie rank criteria. If you have been here for more than a month, and made more than 30 posts without merit, then you are no longer a newbie. It is because of this that I am opposed to a merit requirement for junior members. I think it would be better to remove it, and to disallow signatures for both newbies and juniors.

Failing that, please can we have a new category of "spambie". this would mean that real new members are not tarred with the spammers brush.

A good catch. How about the source of file where you got your data? You just defeated DdmrDdmr in this statistics race Smiley

This would be a an eye turning for other DT members to watch this to give them an early Christmas gift. They even overtake Ognasty in giving merits to new members.
