I list all users who have a high Generosity index. Of course, most of them are merit sources (shown in bold on tables).

At the moment, there are 114 users in the full list of merit sources. I guess that some of them are former merit sources, but I am not exactly sure of their current status.

You are absolutely right. In 2018, I didn't know for sure which of the users was a merit source, so the detection algorithm has automatically spotted such decent members. I always check to see if new merit sources have been discovered.

It's explained in the OP - the list is sorted by generosity (spending more sMerits than earned) and not by the absolute number of sent merits. If someone sent 200+ merits but earned 400+ then they're very unlikely to be a merit source and don't need to be considered here.

My understanding is that Op started this thread without knowing hardly any of the members to be merit sources, and included all of the members who had been sending the most merits with an objective that his formula would attempt to unambiguously determine which members were merit sources and which were not based on suspecting what would have been the airdrop amount and the amount of smerits that would have been generated by receiving merits.

There were quite a few gaps in which information was knowable including some variability beyond the standard airdrop and the additional individual amount of merits that would have been airdropped based on member activity the year prior to the airdrop.

It did not hurt to continue to keep track of members who were suspected to be merit sources because they might later get proven to have been merit sources based on the criteria that was being watched. Sure, of course, some members admitted that they were merit sources, but Op's formula did not depend on anyone telling him who were the merit sources, including theymos said that he was not going to tell.

No, I am looking at the "sent merits" stats (first one) and I see many averaging 200 which is not much in my opinion.

From 1 to 100 I have no problems, I think it will be hard to find anybody else and there is the majority of merit sources for sure.

But the rest? I don't know, there are many more members with 200+ merits sent, in my opinion, so what was the reason to add them?

It's possibly a means of recognizing other top generous merit awarders. The identified merit sources are easily distinguished on the list, as their usernames are boldened.

Not sure which method the OP uses, but there is a weekly updated merit data dump from theymos, DdmrDdmr also runs the merit dashboard. Both of these tools would be very useful in making such a list.

Are you looking at the generosity score? It is not the actual sent merit figure, according to the OP, it is calculated using;

Nothing has changed - source merits get back to you 30 days after spending them. You allocation has probably increased since those early days so it seems faster.

As for hoarding, one can accumulate personal merits while spending all source merits, which could allow (completely hypothetically of course) to spend some ungodly amount in one month but in the long run that doesn't change anything.

Yeah, suchmoon is the man/woman/whatever when it comes to merit generosity (for this month at least), and it's nice to see reports like this. I don't think of it as a competition, but the higher I am on a monthly list of most generous merit-givers, the happier I am. Why? Because it means I'm probably doing a decent job as a merit source, a position I take pretty seriously as I'm a strong supporter of the merit system.

And hey, 3rd place is not too shabby at all, my man. If you consider how many members there are (not even including merit sources), 3rd place is amazing. And hell, I'm happy to see myself at 25th place this time around. I've really been trying to spread out the merits far and wide--and I don't aspire to anything higher on the list. I'd be happy to stay right where I'm at, because it means there are 24 members above me who are taking their job even more seriously than I am, which is a great thing for the merit system.

You bet I am competing in this table! I think being a generous user, as a merit source and as an active user, is a good objective to follow.
