Sorry I'm not an expert at combing through the logs. I can generally figure out an issue with the Miner itself when that's the problem. In regards to what happened after the move hard to say, it could be a slightly different line voltage in your new location making it so the Pi isn't getting enough juice to support 5 miners per AUC3 - this is just a guess.

Have you tried firing it up again as a test with say 3 or 4 miners per AUC3? If not that should be your first step.
Do you have something like a Samsung phone charger wall brick?? That's what I was using for my PI's in the past - I've never had to run 5 machines per AUC3 though.

Well out of despair i went ahead and ordered two more AUCs and two raspbery brick of 3amp .
It is really getting on my nerve what is actually wrong and what has happened in moving them around .
There is not an easy way to pinpoint the exact issue and the openwrt logs are not helping at all.
Is there anywhere in the logs i can find something more ?

You should spread out your Avalons to AUC3 ratio. If you have the extra AUC3 adapters try going with a max of 4 per string and see how that goes. In the past people have had issues trying to operate 5 miners per AUC3. You may also be using weak power blocks for the Rasp PI's, I can't remember the minimum right now, I'll look again.

If you are not able to access the controller unit at all and you have double-checked that your setup is ok,
then it is possible that your controller unit is faulty and needs to be replaced with a new one.

Please also make sure that the 5 VDC wall wart is in ok condition and that
it is able to provide at least 5 VDC 2.5 A power for the controller unit.

Hi all ,
We have bought pack of 40 avalon 821 recently .

They were working relatively stable for one week .

But after we moved them to another location we are facing very bothering issue.

The connection between raspbery and AUC3 keeps disconnecting and reconnecting non stop part of the logs :

The setup is as follow

20 avalon to one raspbery in pack of 5 which are connected to 4 AUCs and then  raspbery . one Raspbery -> 4 AUCS -> 20 Avalon

10 avalon to one raspbery in pack of 5 which are connected to 2 AUCs and then raspbery . one Raspbery -> 2 AUCS -> 10 Avalon

10 avalon to one raspbery in pack of 5 which are connected to 2 AUCs and then raspbery . one Raspbery -> 2 AUCS -> 10 Avalon

And all of them are experiencing same issue and connect / disconnect frequently every 3-4 for minutes.

RPI image version is  : Controller Version: Avalon Firmware for avalon8 – 20190404

And MM version is : 8211904-1ab9760

We tried changing USB cables between raspbery and AUC3 but it did not help . Also tried moving AUCs around and it did not help aslo.

It seems the problem is not AUCs itself as we have 8 of them and tested all of them between devices.

So would you please advice what can be wrong.I was going to change the raspbery firmware but im not sure that it is the problem.

Could you tell me how can I flash the firmware on the MM if the controller is not “seeing” devices? Thank you in advance.

same problem here , i have 5 Avalon921 3 of them suddenly stopped working - same setting and same configurations 2 of them which i installed recently working fine.... those 3  show green light on back of miner and on AUC ....but never shows the device alive just blank!

I foolishly played the firmware from an 851 to an 841 and no longer accepts the firmware for the 841.  Now he has about 8 TH. Can anyone help me there? Huh Huh

This sounds like you're trying to use the Rasp Pi 3B+.

Try to use the 3B (no plus) model.

I haven't done anything with the FW in a long time. Have you reached out to Canaan and their support? What model of Avalon are you trying to run? Where are you getting your FW from. Also are you sure it's not a 3b+; iirc those are not supported.

Have anyone dealt with high DH value (device hardware errors)?
Now I have three Avalon 851 with DH=14%, 35% and 50% and reduced hashrate respectively.
I could suppose it is a single defect with one miner or hashboard, but it's happened with 3 miners out of 5 one after another during 4 months after purchase.

Particularly alarming, that all of the troubled miners worked with "Low power" firmware (2018-12-22) since purchasing, while other miners from the same batch worked with high-performance firmware all the time and they are ok now (firmware 2018-06-28). It's a strange coincidence.
All miners worked in the same environment - in a cool room with good ventilation and ambient temperature 18C.
Low power mode means more gentle conditions for hardware - lower frequency, lower heating. How could hashboards degrade so fast in low power mode?
Sounds like nonsense, but is the "Low Power mode" danger for hashboards on long working period?
Or it's just inexplicable coincidence and manufacturing defect?

Canaan removed DH parameter from cgminer status page (it was present at the page for Avalon7) and it was a bad idea to remove it for Avalon8, because it is the most important health indicator alongside with power good indicator.
Additionally, the status page now shows miner's individual hashrate without considering hardware errors and it is difficult to notice the growth of hardware errors.
You are looking at individual miners hashrates and they are ok. But overall daisy-chain hashrate gradually decreases month by month.
And then one day a few months later you look and realize that it's become steadily smaller than before.

Miners work with last firmware with Low power mode.
Individual miners hashrate is 9093 and 8772, but overall hashrate isn't exceeded 12800 (should be ~17800) after 1 hour of heating.
cgminer log shows:
 DH[14.638%] for miner A851S-0-1 and DH[54.779%] for miner A851S-0-2
But healthy miners have DH not greater 2-3% after 10-15 minutes of heating

I tried to switch power mode to HighPerformance, individual miners hashrate grow up to ~15000 but overall hashrate of two miners isn't exceeded 20000 because DH ratio has not changed significantly.
I replaced raspberry pi, auc3, wires and did a pi and mm firmware downgrade/upgrade – no results.
Power is good, I replaced power supplies, all pmu lights are green and cgminer logdump shows correct voltages on hash boards.

I submitted a support ticket to canaan several days ago and haven't heard back from them.
I owned a lot of Avalon7 for 2 years and there were no problems with them all the time. Canaan devices were famous for their reliability.
Now I'm really upset about Avalon 851.

Any idea what else to try?

It can be a couple of things but Avalons are generally really easy to troubleshoot and narrow down issues.

Sounds like you are running 3 of these. If you are running them all off 1 AUC3 I would double check the 5 pin cables running from miner 1 to miner 2, do the same from 2 to 3. Once you've confirmed they are secure, try swapping them around if all 3 miners aren't showing up yet. I have found this is usually my issue after I move things around.

If all 3 still aren't reporting you should changing the order of the miners in the chain. Hopefully that helps get them back online.

By golly you are right on this one.  I didn't realize this debug only showed one of the three miners in the chain.   Now ti figure out why the other two are no longer reporting in.

Submitted a support ticket to canaan more than a week ago and I have not heard back from them.  The 921s i have are reporting device hardware errors in excess of 50% at times and when running for a longer time it will drop to 2(ish)%.    The voltage seems to be about the same for the chips, the temps are within the 70-80C range, the errors are distributed between all the chips so it doesn't looks like there is a single point of the errors.     Maybe Canaan might see this and give some support for these units :|

Hello, its working now Undecided

After a few tests, I leave it running on the shell for a couple of hours and went to dinner, then when I restart it, it was ok... :-| very strange... but the same happened a lot of times with nicehash image — https://canaan.io/downloads/people/mikeqin/avalon741/openwrt/nicehash/20170719/ — on the 741 , and beside this question, there were others from other people without answer on reddit with the same question... You're welcome, the price one is price per PH at least from what nicehash is currently using on sha256 and it's based on an average price of all orders they have. I'd read their documentation on it if you wanted better information.

I never tested nicehash  on the 841's I can try to if I need to do any tests with them in the future. But with the 851's they seemed to work without the xnsub using the 20180628 Canaan official firmware the only time I ever saw them leave the pool was when the price was under the threshold I set and their hashrates all seemed to be stable and the speeds I was expecting.
