I had a weird 50mBTC transaction come out of my wallet in Blockchain.info. I still can't figure out who it went to. Must have been operator error on my part.
I was born paranoid anyway.

The way I see it, if you're going to screw me over using this currency, I'll just move on to the next....
It's why I'm here in the first place, the last currency I used, I was screwed over with....so, I decided, enough was enough and moved on...
We can pretend all we want, what real value is, won't be found on a computer screen. In just the same way money means jack, and what it does for you is meaningful, this all will mean squat unless it can do something for you. What does it do for me? So far? I can buy hats and stuff, play poker, register for sites, gift cards...
If you want it to take it off, increase market reach. Can I pay rent with this yet? Can I get my working wages with this? No. So far, it's nothing but internet funny money....

Trust but verify when money's involved on the internet, would be more appropriate IMO.
You're saying.. 'Do you know their full name?" and that kind of things. But aren't Bitcoins supposed to be anonymous? So that doesn't really make any sense..

A lot of people will learn this the hard way with BTC, especially as more and more ordinary Joes start using it.
The level of security required is pretty crazy. I always thought of myself as having a pretty secure rig, but now with having a wallet.dat on my hardrive, i feel like i'm getting paranoid. I'll probably have lots of paper wallets and transfer over a specific threshold from hotwallets to paper ones.
I don't trust myself. That's why I do all of my sensitive computing with my eyes closed.

Great post! I wish I had seen this post sooner - I am still waiting on a refund for btcfpga.com orders. Let my mistake be a lesson to you all. Even if someone seems legit and community approved - do your due diligence and have a backup plan

Some people remember in their heads a long pass phrase which is the seed for their wallet. From that seed all their private/public keys can be generated. In this way the private keys are stored nowhere in the network, nor on your local machine. The needed private keys are generated from the seed each time you need them.
1. Put all your coins in a new wallet that has never connected to the network
