Beşiktaş has signed Fernando Santos. I'm frankly surprised by this good move. He's an A class coach. By the way, this move means that Besiktas will play for the top next year, but I think it is impossible with this squad, it will probably be a very active summer for Besiktas. Fernando Santos is a very good coach and I'm surprised he came to this team when Beşiktaş is in this horrible situation. The new club management have made big promises and this surprise move was very welcomed by the fans.
A manager who has coached the national team for years is now heading a club team for the first time. From this perspective, it's a bit of a strange choice. But other than that, they signed a really big name with a great career. I congratulate the Beşiktaş board. No reporter could cover this, it was a completely successful operation.
Portuguese players have generally always been successful in Beşiktaş. With the new manager, we can see Portuguese dominance in the team again. Most of the foreign players are leaving anyway, there will be room in the squad. We also strengthen the Turkish rotation with young players from the infrastructure. The team looks like it will be fine. Now the priority should be to go to the Europa League, so that this team can play to win trophies in every competition next year.
I thought exactly that he was a national team coach for a very long time and how he can be in a Turkish league team. He addressed these questions himself exactly in an interview on 8th of November:
Question: "Do you see yourself more as a club coach or as a national team coach?"
Fernando Santos: "It is difficult to answer this question. I want to go back to club coaching because I know that it is what fulfils my needs, to be with the players every day and help them develop as players and as people. The Poland coaching job was a decision I took too quickly and it was a mistake. Now I want to think calmly, obviously I hope to continue working and I think I have all the conditions for it. I even find it difficult to sit on the sofa because of the lack of adrenaline. I have been in this business since I was 18 years old. I think the longest time I didn't work was 3-4 months. After my experience in Poland, I have decided that I need to calm down and pay attention."
So, it seems like he has a hunger and enthusiasm for something new and something challenging like Besiktas, Turkish League and European competitions Beşiktaş will possibly participate. I agree that with transfers in the season break, Beşiktaş can target the qualifying for the Europa League. New club president seems good so far, therefore this can be achieved.
