No big surprises in this round apart Man City failure! which I believe will make the players show their best performance and maybe will crush Tottenham next time?
Liverpool will have a relatively easy game, same goes for Barcelona in a lesser degree but the interesting game will be between Juventus and Ajax in my opinion  Smiley

No offense to Liverpool fans, but them winning the league kinda feels like it's gonna fall on their lap cos of City's fixtures.

It will be a close run till the end. City maybe has tougher fixtures but Liverpool isn't in that free flowing form they were few months ago. They have to work hard for 3 points every single game. They managed to take all the points in last 3 games, but it was always in the last minutes of the game. If they don't step it up their luck will probably run out. Looking forward for eventful ending of the best league in the world  Grin

I think Tottenham will struggle on the reverse fixture, especially with Captain Kane out now. I would rather them win but I think City will be too strong at home. Interestingly enough they'll both be playing each other a few days later in the Premier League. That will be a very interesting game as one team will surely want retribution for being knocked out whatever happens.

And both fixtures are at home.  So at least City got that going for them...  It's gonna take a whole lot from it's players and the staff to win the league imo, since there's the FA Cup final and they're still in the CL.

Ajax played well last night and could have gotten the win. I'm rooting for them, I like the way they play, their youth, enthousiasm etc... I know Juve is the clear favorite but I still believe in an upset for the 2nd leg.
Barca did the job, no surprise. MU isn't really quarter finals material, they're here because PSG gave them the qualification.

I'll edit the poll for the semis.

I still think Juventus will sail through even if they will have to do it the hard way, Ajax are youthful and all but this stage is for the big boys and i will give this Ajax team two more years to grow and become really competitive at the highest level if they are able to maintain the core of the team.

My semi final line up predictions -

Juventus vs Man City
Barcelona vs Liverpool

I still think Man City will recover from 1-0 loss to qualify. The other semi finalists are self explanatory, they got 1st leg advantages (Juve have the away goal).

According to your prediction, Barcelona looks like to be a champion this year. But, if in the final two premier league clubs will meet, brits gonna ne drinking for a week Cheesy

Too bad Ajax didn't manage to score at least one more goal. They deserved it for sure and would make my bets pass perfectly. If they could have kept the intensity from the beginner of 2nd half I believe Juve would have cracked.

The other game went rather expected with Barca playing pragmatically on result. This is new quality in their game and possibly the most important one to win competition like Champions League. It isn't very enjoyable to watch but sure is effective.

Ajax were the better team but I think that away goal for Juve was vital and is probably what will sink Ajax ultimately. I think Juve will be too strong at home. I think playing away in other grounds from other top tiers of football makes a huge difference. With the Barca Man U second leg I think United will get destroyed. Could even be an embarrassment. I can see a lot of cards in that game especially from United. They can get clumsy and are certainly physical at the best of times, which will get even worse if they're losing.

I think both Juventus and Barcelona will go to the Champions League semifinals, both teams should be able to close this on home ground next week.

Agreed.

MU - Barcelona. Barca played very pragmatic football. They scored just 1 goal
They got the match result but technically Barcelona did not score any goal as it was a Manchester United own goal Roll Eyes

Hope an away result can be got from Camp Nou in the reverse fixture, like it was done against PSG

No, it was a goal, but technically an own goal. I think it's very harsh to count those sorts of deflections as an own goal. For an own goal to counyt it should have to be a clear error on the players part not that just it came off them and unluckily went in.

everything can still happen, even psg who is ahead of winning 2 away goals is still able to be beat by man.united in Paris, and at Camp Nou, the spirit of Man.united is still the same.

Of course it can happen..anything can happen, but most people will be of the opinion that it's going to be very difficult for Man United now. Barca are one of the best teams on the planet and Camp Neu is arguably one of the hardest places to go to so it's going to be an uphill battle for them. I wouldn't write them off just yet but the odds are stacked against them. It will make for an interesting game either way.

I watched Man Utd vs Barca last night. As a Liverpool fan with my team possibly having one foot in the semi final neither Man Utd or Barca worry me as a potential semi final opponent.

That Barca team is nowhere near as good as their past teams. They left loads of space & United were able to attack them. They won’t get away with it against Mane, Salah & Firmino.

They won’t cope with our press either, they take risks passing the ball around at the back.

If I was them I'd rather play Manchester than Barca. I think they would too. Liverpool beat them 3-1 at Anfield in December and it was 0-0 on the reverse fixture a couple of months ago. I disagree about Barca not being as good as prior teams and Messi, Surez & Coutinho are just as good as Mane, Salah & Firmino if not better in my opinion. Liverpool probably have one of the best sides they've ever had right now though.

In my opinion Ajax is a tought team and Juventus should be afraid of them in the 2nd leg.
They have so many young players that they want to achieve things and accomplish goals for their career improvement and disqualifying Ronaldo's Juve would be an important goal for them.

By the way, is anyone noticing that we are not seeing many goals in this round like the last round?
There are fewer teams but the first leg of the RO16 had less goals (18) than the 2nd leg (34). We'll probably see more goals next week.

Hope an away result can be got from Camp Nou in the reverse fixture, like it was done against PSG
As much as I'd like to see Barca getting KO'd, I don't think it's gonna happen, they're unbeaten at home in the CL, they haven't lost a home game in this competition since 2013!

Woww, Ajax is a monster of a team. Juventus did pretty good in defence considering they were without Chiellini. Both Rugani and Bonnuci played with confidence and made few mistakes. Cancelo was careless many times in defence, not just losing the ball that led to the goal, many wrong passes and failed clearances. He is much better in attacking the wings and getting his crosses in.

It is no coincidence that teams like Barcelona, Bayern or Juventus are looking to strengthen their teams with players from Ajax. de Ligt, Ziyech and van de Beek had an excellent game last night.
This tie is far from over and Juventus will have to sweet it out in front of their home fans next week.

Ajax and Barcelona get satisfying results. The club fans were happy because they could win when playing away. Furthermore, they should be happy because they will play at home. This is a valuable victory to get to the semi-final party. League champions have prestige and anyone who can be a champion can be said to be the best club in the world.
Yeah, but remember this is champions league that anything can happen. Maybe Man United can make a big comeback on 2nd leg by 0-2 goal lol, who knows right Cheesy. It sucks though for Man United, they lose 0-1 because of own goal. For Ajax match, i'm not sure they can win against juventus on 2nd leg which is on Juventus home.

Well, a good result for Ajax side in this first leg but remember Juventus get a goal on this away match. Juventus only need draw on the 2nd leg to qualify to the next round, cmiiw.

For manc united vs barcelona, sad result for manc united, there's still a hope for them but not big because 2nd leg at barcelona home will be so so hard.

I also thought ManU would have difficulty while undergoing the second leg match at Camp Nou. playing in front of Barcelona supporters will definitely be hard for ManU. ManU's own goal clearly punished them last night. I hope ManU releases their magic in the second Leg.

both last night matches are quite interesting. still waiting for the second leg results in the Champions League quarter-finals. which team has the right to go further.

Barca didn't even play well yesterday to be honest and if they had been just a little better at the end we would have seen more goals. But a precious away goal is good, they will like their chances, I think they should be greatly inspired for the home leg. I still lost my bet though, since I gave my friends from United 1.5 goals. Messi was awesome though, even at not full evolution;)

Hey I feel Manchester United fans will be disappointed with the results, I know Manchester United didn’t play their best football but that own goal was harsh. I feel it’s mission impossible for them to go camp Nou and snatch a victory, but then impossible things do happen in champions league. Also I feel Ajax can stun Juventus and qualify for the next round, the only person stopping them is Ronaldo and he’ll heavily marked in the next game.

none of the teams in the quarters so far have come clear to take the 2nd leg lightly(Liverpool maybe, with their 2-0 lead and next match at home). It is going to be interesting 2nd leg where anything is possible.
