Even if Real Madrid make it to the semifinals then I think they will fail if the next opponent is a stronger team.

Atletico this season concedes more goals than ever before. And Manchester City will definitely be able to score such a defense, and most likely more than once. For me, City are the clear favorites in this pairing, but let's not forget that Atletico are a great club that were very good at defending, and if they manage to show better defense than they have in recent matches, then they will have a chance to compete with City with dignity.
