Isn't that enough reason why the coach should try out other options, I think national teams that succeed the most are those who play more often than not their most in form player, who plays week in, week out in their club.

Throwing sentiments out of the window, we both know Rakitic hasn't been his usual self for some months now, and he is currently struggling to start games for Barcelona, for me that's enough reason not to play him, it could even serve as extra motivation for him to improve.

That makes sense when you are France and replace Varane with Umtiti or something like that. When you are Croatia, the choice is between Rakitić and Badelj. So, if you ask me, Rakitić can come drunk wearing a blindfold and have his feet stuck in concrete shoes and he'd still be my preferred choice. Same goes for some other positions in our team, including Lovren for example - a player I do not value at all. He will play if he does not get a game for Liverpool for an entire season and it will still be the best thing for Croatia.

Croatia is a good team with some great players. However, that team does not have depth like many other top teams do.

My prediction Slovakia will get 4 points in the next 2 matches, draw against Croatia and win against Azerbaijan
then they will see the results of the Hungary match because here the determination whether they qualify or not
My prediction is 3 points against Azerbaijan and 0 points vs Croatia. A draw isn't impossible but it will be very hard to achieve. I expect two goals difference at least for Croatia.

Yes Croatia is too strong for Slovakia, earlier in the fifth match Croatia beat Slovakia 4-0 at home and next croatia playing at home of course their performance has increased

They are allowed a few bad performances, nobody plays well every day.

Croatia's qualification is pretty much done, they only need a win against Georgia which I think it is possible.
So a draw against Slovakia could be an option. However, I think that Croatia will try their best in the game against Slovakia in order to end the qualification scenarios earlier.

Thoughts on group E? Can Croatia keep 1st place in the last match?

Croatia will be facing against Slovakia and I don't know about you but I think they aren't even on the same level of competition. The first time the met in the group Croatia defeated them by four goals to none and that is pretty impressive since they have a draw against Wales. Just remember that Croatia reached the Finals in the world cup and they have defeated teams like England, Argentina, and Russia along the process so I'm very confident to say that they will finish the round on top of the table.

Croatia will be missing both first choice central defenders in that match due to suspension. Slovakia will be very fired up in order to try and get revenge for big 4:0 defeat. I will decide what to bet closer to the match when I have more information about possible injuries and more importantly on the state of Croatian players heads. We usually play better against strong opposition and not so good against weaker opposition. Slovakia is somewhere between and I hope our players will decide to treat them as top opponent. In that case we are winning, no problem.

We shall see, but betting wise, I believe both to score will be a safer option for that match.

@Trofo even without their regular defenders Croatia is a very strong team, and they’ll easily beat Slovakia as they have already defeated them 4 - 0 before. @Harlot you’re correct as Croatia has the mentality to defeat big or small teams and that winning mentality was the primary reason they reached the World Cup finals. Also they have almost sealed the top spot as Hungary who’s second in the group e are two points behind them, and they have a bad goal difference in comparison to Croatia.

I think that Croatia had much more chance to win against a team who is attacking them. We don't play well against a team who's only concern is to defend their goal (as we've seen in the games against Azerbaijan and Wales). Also, Daniel91 said one more problem with our coach - he doesn't have the guts to put younger players in the game. For example, in the last two games Perišić was so bad and I wouldn't be surprised if he starts again against Slovakia.
It's not really being fair to Wales when you claim that their only concern was defending their goal because when you look at the games in perspective and the statistics you will see that Wales had the same shot as Croatia with them even one more shot on target than Croatia. Wales seems to have a slim chance of qualifying because they are bound to win against Azerbaijan which will take them one point behind Hungary who they have to win against if they want to qualify.

There is no such thing like old or young players * only good and bad players.
In Croatian national team we have some players who don't play at all in their clubs like Rakitic or Lovren and some players like Vlasic or Brekalo who are playing very good at the moment.
I just feel that Dalic don't have courage to replace them because of their reputation and merits in the past.
I hope our results will not suffer because of it.

Agreed, therefore, in my opinion, the players that still need to play are Rakitić, Lovren and Perišić.
You do not lose quality by sitting out a few games in your club and Rakitić is still one of our best players. They are allowed a few bad performances, nobody plays well every day.
It is good that we have these options (Brekalo, Vlašić and others), but as far as I'm concerned, quality is still with the older ones. Not because they are old and should play on merit, but because these younger ones are not some worldbeaters but just decent/good players.

I disagree about the 'courage' thing. Rakitić and Perišić still deserve to play in the key games, it is way too early for Brekalo, Vlašić and the rest of young guns.
Their quality is ok, but neither of them is Mbappe in the making, so no need to push them forward just because they are younger.

A good example is Petković who can be good enough but more importantly, IS currently good enough, and he started all recent games.

I agree that "old" players still deserve to play. But Rakitić isn't playing in his club and everyone was able to see that he wasn't "in the game". He looked lost to me in the last two games.

As for the young players, I agree that Dalić can't base his game on the young players. But he should use them as much as he can.

Thoughts on group E? Can Croatia keep 1st place in the last match?

Yes, I believe so. We are a much better team than Slovakia, we are playing at home and they need to attack which will suit our gameplan.

I too believe that Croatia will keep the 1st place in the group. We are definitely a better team, but there is always that little chance that we will defend that one point that we need and end up losing. Plus, our standard defending pair (Vida and Lovren) are suspended due to yellow cards. But I still don't think that we will lose. We either lost or draw three games because of Dalić's (Croatia's coach) poor tactics because of his poor tactics (games against Hungary, Azerbaijan and the last one against Wales). I'm sure he will learn something from those mistakes.

I think the problem of the Croatian football team is not in bad tactics but in the fact that Dalic doesn't have the courage to carry out a generation shift and get rid of some deserving players like Rakitic and Perisic.
Vlasic and Brekalo have already shown that they are the right players for the national team and that they should play constantly, as well as Petkovic, but due to its former merit, old  players play, who don't deserve it.
Such players play because of the hierarchy of the team and not the quality and it's obvious that they don't have the strength or the inspiration needed to carry the team play.
It will be very difficult in the match against Slovakia because there will be 2 defenders who have never played together and some other players like Rakitic don't play in their clubs.

Slovakia has 6 points in total still to catch, if they get only 1 against Croatia, they will qualify for the next stage
It will be a very hard match for Croatia, but it's good, cause Croatia plays better when it's hard

I think that Croatia played well to a certain degree and you cannot expect from a single player like Perisic in this case to be in top form in every single game.A player can also have bad days and these days have happened even to the best players like Messi and Ronaldo.I think that Croatia is playing a good football overall.

there will be interesting games like roman vs Sweden and Hungary vs wales  and Denmark vs Switzerland so i think next round we will see all  the qualified teams
Groupe A: England, Czech
Groupe B: Ukraine, Portugal
Groupe C: Netherlands, Germany
Groupe D: Ireland, Switzerland
Groupe E: Croatia, Wales
Groupe F: Spain, Romania
Groupe G: Poland, Austria
Groupe H: France, Turkey
Groupe I: Belgium, Russia
Groupe j: Italy, Finland

There are several teams that have been confirmed to qualify for the next phase. And some are still able to change for runners up. Because the difference in points is still thin, so there is still a chance for third place in each group to qualify. Things like this are expected to occur.

I agree with you except on Group F. I think Sweden will qualify for UEFA Euro 2020
Even if Romania overcome Sweden in the head-head match, I think Sweden will qualify for Euro 2020. Because in the last week Sweden will face Faro Islands and Romania will face Spain in Madrid. I don't think Romania can earn any point in the game against Spain.
