By the way, why is Israel allowed to perform? I thought FIFA was against any country that invaded the other. At least that's what happened with Russia. Russia invaded Ukraine and Russia was literally not allowed to take part in the World Cup. But Israel is literally doing a genocide on Palestine. But no actions are being taken against them.

I think the world of politics has entered FIFA, Even though they say they have nothing to do with any politics in the world. I think FIFA is also an ally of the United States. This can be seen from the fact that they strictly prohibited Russia from participating but they allowed Israel to participate.

Rather, the peak of the Icelandic team was 2016, when they were able to get out of the group at the European Championship, and then in the 1/8 finals to beat England and reach the 1/4 finals and lost there only to the gaining power of the French team, who in 2 years will be world champions.
Now the national team of Iceland is experiencing bad times, but still good fight to the end for the exit from the group.
Luxembourg has a population of 400 thousand like Iceland, so we can say that both teams show excellent results in the fight against more famous teams.
Yes, Iceland at that time was phenomenal enough to be able to reach the semifinals. Even though previously Iceland was not the favorite team at all, even to qualify for the group phase, many people thought they would not be able to.

But the Icelandic team at that time was not a team that was suddenly able to show strength just like that, but the 2016 squad was the first generation squad as a result of a systematic training program over a long period of time so that they managed to appear stunning and were truly welcomed with great enthusiasm. by the Icelandic people.

However, in qualifying for Euro 2024, Iceland completely failed to compete so their dream of going to Germany was dashed. Iceland must return to carrying out a systematic program like what they did several years ago.

Wales didn't manage to beat Turkey and game ended 1:1. On the other hand, Crotia managed to defeat Armenia with one goal and came out of the group as the 2nd. Thus, Croatia and Turkey qualified to participate in the EURO 2024 European Cup. So Turkey secured 2nd pot. Croatia secured 3nd pot. Türkiye finished the group qualifiers at the top for the first time.

Croatia won anyway so even if Wales won it wouldnt have mattered. But Croatia barely won but yet again they are on a big tournament again. Turkey really surprised me in this qualifiers with how good they played,as a reward they passed the group easily and are at a big tournament finally

Yes, I will also say that Turkey definitely surprised a lot of people by showing such a good performance. People definitely expected Croatia and Wales to be the top two things from this group. But I think we have to give credit where credit is due. Turkey really performed well and also showed that they are improving as a footballing nation. And Turkey definitely has some really incredible upcoming players to watch out for. I am really interested to see how Arda Guler is going to perform.

Luxembourg scored 17 points in their group with Portugal and I think Greece scored less points in their group, so I would write off Luxembourg right away because they can beat teams like Greece.
As for Ukraine, I agree that Iceland is a rather convenient opponent, but it can also surprise and the chances of Ukraine's exit are much higher.

Iceland used to be a very strong side. But for the last 3-4 years, their form has gone down. Small island nation with a population of less than 400,000, so it is understandable. In case of Luxembourg, they scored 17 points from 10 matches, and still failed to get a direct qualification spot. Unfortunately for them, they were placed in a tough group along with Portugal and Slovakia. Now coming to Ukraine, they missed direct qualification by a whisker. Both Italy and Ukraine ended up with 14 points, but Italy progressed thanks to superior goal difference.

Iceland is still a respectable team given their country size, but you are of course right that the best result they ever had was the tournament you mentioned. That win against England will forever be legendary. I guess a lot of people can't remember how that game went. It was England who took the lead early in the game and everyone thought that this is going to be a lazy walkover. Iceland got into motion and put up a fight that I have rarely seen from an inferior team against England, a nation that is known for this sport across the globe. That was amazing and I really like when these surprises are possible at big tournaments.

Luxembourg has truly come a way up in football recently and these qualifiers showed just that, not many years ago they were a team that were happy when they were losing by a single goal to any team playing against and now to be fighting for a qualification spot through play offs is a great achievement for them.

I think that they will not be able to win a direct game against Greece but in football anything can happen as they say and I don't exclude big surprises from these play offs.

Luxembourg is one of the richest countries in the European Union, and they have been quite successful in attracting talented immigrants from around the world. And this has helped them to improve the performance in a big way. A number of players, such as Enes Mahmutović, Seid Korač, Lars Gerson, Dirk Carlson, Mica Pinto, Leandro Barreiro, Edvin Muratović, Danel Sinani, Gerson Rodrigues and Alessio Curci are of immigrant background. The only disadvantage is that Luxembourg doesn't have a well established national league, so most of these players need to be stationed outside the country.

Of a truth Luxembourg performance in the EUFA Euro 2024 is really surprising considering the fact that there performance in their previous appearances at the EURO qualifier was nothing to right home about but with the current improvement in thier pattern of play this time around it is very applaudable and it's a welcome development as it isn't good for a country or a team to be known for always losing matches or not performing well in competitions.

Now there is only playoff stage left before continuing with the main tournament. There are going to be 3 more teams coming through playoff stage. What are your favourite teams in this stage?

First of all I expect the finale draw of the playoffs like this:

Wales v Poland
Ukraine v Iceland
Luxembourg v Greece

My favourites are Wales, Ukraine and Greece. Wales and Poland are really close teams in statistics but I feel like Wales will find a way to win by a close gap. I think Ukraine are better than Iceland. Greece seem much better at defending compared to Luxembourg so they should be able to eliminate them in this case.

Greece has an easy matchup against Luxemburg and i think they need to win this easily against a really weak team. Ukraine has also once of those easier matchups because Iceland isnt playing really good currently and they can take a big advantage of this situation.

For Ukraine and Greece I agree with you but for Wales vs Poland this is a bit difficult to predict, specifically I would prefer to see Poland win but still Wales cannot be underestimated so I think the chances are 50:50 only luck can help them, so will the 3 teams qualify for the next stage through the playoffs? I don't really understand the rules because I see some other teams are not in the playoffs Norway, Sweden, Israel and others even though this team also has enough points.

Apart from that, the group winner is also our concern we can see Romania, Albania and Hungary at the top of the group some teams even have a record without defeat well, these teams can be called underdogs which can give surprises to favorite teams. Turkey is also a concern for us because it has played impressively so far.

Portugal national teams have perfect achievement result on UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany Qualifiers after winning all matches and scoring 36 goals  with 2 conceded goals. The only one national team have perfect winning result on qualifier matches regarding other team can't win 100% match such as Spain and France miss winning one match. Currently in Group J have some strong national team such as Slovakia and Bosnia but they can't stop Portugal winning trend.

Romelu Lukaku become top scorer in UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier round after scoring 14 goals, his quattrick goals last match make him lead first standings of top scorer behind Cristiano Ronaldo on second standings position with 10 goals. Regarding impressive performance in qualifier round can't guarantee will have perfect achievement on Euro 2024 in Germany because there are have many compete national team. The host national team Germany looks not have impressive performance on several friendly match, I doubt they are favorite team will win Euro 2024 although playing on their home.
Portugal had a 100% match win rate on their way to EURO 2024. Roberto Martinez has really improved this side and he’s grateful and has also utilized the quality players in his squad, this record of 10 of 10 wins is Portugal solidifying their status as a formidable force in Europe, they’ve got better counterparts such as France who could probably have same 100% record if they’ll defeat Greece but with or without, France proves to also be a top contender for the EURO Cup.

Lukaku is a fine striker who’s been proving his worth especially when his outside the shores of England and he’s doing that while playing in the EUROS by becoming top scorer of the tournament, In his last match, he had 4 goals as Belgium put in 5 against Azberjain, well this is the qualifier and successes there doesn’t amount to success in the main tournament as we could face surprises from smaller teams.
Roberto Martinez has really improved the performance of the Portugal national since he took over the managerial position of the team and his tactical and technical abilities as the manager of Portugal has been demonstrated by the the country's perfect record during the qualifyers.

Cristiano Ronaldo who was surprisingly not picked to start Portugal's most important game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup but has regained his starting place in the team since Martinez arrived as the Italian manager's relationship with the all times men's international football  highest goalscorer has always been very great

If the matchups in the final round of playoffs become exactly as your prediction then Wales - Poland could be a pretty interesting one.

Wales have been quite inconsistent throughout the group stage. They made good progress later on but still weren't good enough to even defeat Armenia in a critical time period. When it comes to Poland they didn't look good enough either. Lewandowski was able to play in only 6 out of 10 matches they played. Maybe their look would have been different otherwise. However I don't think that Poland would lose to Wales. Poland have a solid history against them like 6W, 1D in 7 matches.

If in the end the Play off draw is like this then indeed Wales, Greece and Poland may still qualify, it's just that we also still don't know from the drawing later because in the end things like this there are still several possibilities that occur and there could be an interesting match where there are 2 clubs that deserve to meet in the play off later.

Ukraine is also actually quite capable of qualifying especially by looking at what they did in the group phase which made it difficult for Italy to qualify directly, actually I still feel that the Play off can do well, it's just that this also returns to the opponent they will face next.

A very remarkable feat for the Portuguese national football team that has put Portugal on lime light once again as far as world football is concerned. Everybody is now looking up to them to replicate this same gesture at the European cup finals that would be held in Germany next year though we expect thougher oppositions like France, Italy, Spain, England etc but if the Portuguese side maintain this form then we expect them to go home with another laurel from the tournament as they once did some years back against France.

Well, in fact, this is a completely logical system and in fact it works 100%.
This new system is pure shit and it will only increase chances of having a very strong or a very weak group in Euro and I don't think that its anyone's interest. Thanks to the geniuses at UEFA we may have group with France, Denmark, Croatia and Italy and at the same time we could have a group with Belgium, Albania, Slovenia and Greece. They should imho just stick to seding based on FIFA ranking instead of this mess.

This is how it would look like if based on FIFA ranking as of November 2023. We could still get harder and weaker groups of course, but generally speaking it would be more balanced.

Pot 1: Germany, France, England, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal
Pot 2: Spain, Italy, Croatia, Switzerland, Denmark, Austria
Pot 3: Hungary, Serbia, Scotland, Turkey, Czech Republic, Romania
Pot 4: Slovakia, Slovenia, Albania + 3 teams from the playoff.
Wow! So, if Italy plays like garbage and Albania is good, then Albania should suffer based on some crap ratings, and Italy should make a profit? And you apparently assume that this will be “in the interests of everyone”?  Roll Eyes This point of view seems a bit arrogant to me.
For the first time in a long time, UEFA did something reasonable, and you are defending the old corrupt system that increased the advantage of already strong teams and oppressed the weak ones due to some crap ratings based on games that had nothing to do with the tournament at all.
I feel like we are talking about just drawing luck, based on this pot situation we should not really be considering them all that different compared to what they used to be, I mean we are talking about a difficult group that could be like just good teams. I feel like that should not be all that important and we could just ignore the situation to be a bit of a different case.

I think it should be important to see that we could still have some good teams and some bad teams in all groups, and that's going to be a very big deal. Euro is a great situation to test these out and see if it works and could be something that will go on to be tested in other stuff as well. I still think that we need more teams to join though, to make it more fun.

And why do you think UEFA switched to this system? I think because, with all its disadvantages, it will now better reflect the strength of teams
On the contrary, it won't reflect the strength of the team but instead the current form which is imho a worse thing from the perspective of a fan.

Ummmmm... But doesn't the totality of a team's form at different times show up in its strength = results?
The most important thing is the results, and everything else like “well, in general, we are strong, but we were in bad shape, that’s why we lost” is irrelevant.
And I would like to focus once again on the fact that the results of a team in a separate tournament affecting its position in this tournament are as logical as possible. And the situation when a team’s results in other tournaments affect its position in another tournament is nonsense.

Nobody gives a damn about this tournament but the results are taken into account and this distorts the rating
The right move was to reduce the amount of friendly games instead of making that nonsense Nations League and that way those games would agffect the rating less, but UEFA is of course more intersted in making money instead what's better for football.

Of course, UEFA doesn’t care about anything except money. But in this case, they came up with a good formula that is fair (maybe they were just mistaken  Grin ).

I thought Turkey would not be successful in the EURO 2024 qualifying groups. And I thought he wouldn't qualify for EURO 2024. But after the sign was made with Vincenzo Montella, I believed that Turkey would participate in EURO 2024. Vincenzo Montella is a good coach. I believe that Vincenzo Montella will be successful in the EURO 2024 tournament.

There is probably no one who thinks that Türkiye can be successful. For years, the Turkish National Football Team has been playing very poorly. Even though they had world-renowned players, they could never capture the team spirit and win matches.
But this time we watched a very different team. We have seen once again how important the coach is, I hope his performances continue like this. Thanks for Montella Smiley
