Very few doubt Croatia's performance, if football fans saw them at the Qatar World Cup, Croatia even managed to finish third at that time, Croatia's draw against Wales is not a reference, because in fact they played very well and dominated the game. But like you said, Wales had a pretty solid defense and luck came to Wales in the 93rd minute and equalised.

Croatia's win over Turkiye took them to second place in Group D and we will also have to wait for June for the next match as there will be a long break. Several surprises occurred in the qualifying round this time, where Spain and the Netherlands got unsatisfactory results.
I have to correct you a bit, Croatia is in first place in the group because it has 1 goal better goal difference than Wales  Grin
In fact, it is not unexpected that Croatia always has problems in qualifying for major competitions, but they always safely and without problems qualify for every major football competition.
I actually think Croatia played better against Wales, in a game they didn't win, than against Turkey, when the goalkeeper saved them in the first 15 minutes of the game.
However, these are the characteristics of great teams, which win even when they are not playing at the highest level.
When you have a goalkeeper that good, that's basically becomes part of your teams plan as well, they have a great keeper that helped them a ton during world cup as well, if not for Martinez and the final game, I would have said Livakovic was the best goalkeeper of the whole tournament, so him saving shots on early game wasn't really that bad of a deal.

On the other hand, I would have to say that there is a good case to be made about Turkey being a better team than Wales as well, and yet Wales and Turkey games looked different, sometimes football doesn't really care about which team ranks where and looks how much better and all that, it's just wildly different when everyone is on the field.

Croatia has so many extraordinary players in the team that they win even if not all players play well, but only a few, like in the game against Turkey. In that match, Croatia won on the basis of the greater individual quality of its players and not on the basis of a much better game, and that is the characteristic of great national teams, that they win even when they do not play well.
Croatia has the necessary quality to be the first in the group without major problems, and I think that the Turkish team is still better than Wales and that in the end they will be second and qualify for the EURO.

Scotland fully deserved the win.Luis Enrique experiment needs time to bring to life a super Spain as he is betting on the really young players and they need time until they harmonize together,I think he has the blessing of Spain as he is going to be considered a new hero as I am pretty confident in the next World Cup we will see a super Spain.I don't believe we will see a really dangerous Spain in this Euro although I think they will have not the slightest problem in qualifying for the Euro, who knows maybe the experiment of Enrique come earlier than predicted and Spain maybe wins this Euro cup but against a super performing France I doubt anyone has better chances than France to win this upcoming Euro 2024.

The problem with Spain have always been their attack. Even the super Spain of 2008-2012 didn't have much attackers. They always play a midfield football. The difference between those two teams is that they had so many good midfielders back then that could dictate the game and also create dozens of chances for their teammates to score and they also do score. People only talk about Xavi, Iniesta, Busquet, we know these guys were phenonium but they also had Fabregas, David Silva, Alonso. There attack was just Pedro, Villa and Torres.

This present Spanish team don't lack the midfielders but they don't have that level of experience and not many good midfielders are they did back them. So now they actually need an attack that can compliment the midfield they have. An attack that can score goals. They also need to learn how to be more direct.

I was actually surprised because it turned out that many people doubted Croatia. maybe because they got off to a bad start to their first game against Wales. Croatia was held to a 1-1 draw. but even so, Croatia was actually playing quite well at that time. they dominated and created a lot of chances but the Wales defense didn't falter. they defend pretty well and tightly.

France are always complaining about poisoning of their players, this same scenario was witnessed in last years World Cup when some of their players complained of illness gotten from their stay in during the World Cup.

It would be wise if the France football association can do a comprehensive health check on their players to determine the causes of this constant complains.

Netherlands have been a surprising team so far I assume. I mean maybe many of us waited for them to have serious difficulties against France in that match. But that huge loss by 4-0 was a little unexpected to be honest.  Grin  Netherlands weren't a team like this in the latest World Cup. They fought really well but I saw them quite weak against France in this match.

They dominated the match against Gibraltar completely as well but they scored only three goals. That was a nice chance to score many more goals to improve their morale at a high level. But let's see what they will do against France in the rematch later on. Until then they can make a big progress maybe.

But after all, the result of the game with France seems to have been explained by the poisoning of the players about which information appeared even before the game? I did not read the continuation of this story, but the result itself looked quite logical to me against the background of that information.
And if you look objectively, France is the main favorite of the tournament + the game at home. The Netherlands had little chance even if they were completely healthy.

The result of the Scotland game against Spain was what many football fans never predicted and watching the Scottish national team make history last night gave me goosebumps. The noise from the fans in the stands was deafening and that is the beauty of football. Spain came into that game thinking that it'll be a walk over for them but the Scottish players had another thought and that was why they played the match with precision, resilience and determination to win.
Scotland's wins over Spain was so surprising to me. With the pressures from Spain, the had every chance to win Scotland but in football the game can most times be unpredictable.
McTominay is a brilliant striker who happens to be at the right place at the right time and he never mises his target. Tierney did a very good job on the run with his opponents giving McTominay  a smoot pass for a wonderful finishing.
Indeed, Scotland deserves the applause even though all thought was on Spain to win.
I would guess that it was even a bigger shock to Spanish people as well. Scotland is rarely this big in the football world, they have a decent nation, just near England, so it's good, but it's not Spain levels, they have the worlds biggest football league, so not being able to come up with good Spanish players is a big problem for them. I get that you can have foreign players but not having any decent Spanish ones to represent the nation is becoming a huge problem.

I guess they need to renovate the whole idea from the bottom to top, like from the youth academy levels to new levels which would become a lot better for them in the next 10 to 20 years.

I think Türkiye will get to the final part of this tournament with 99% probability. In fact, in the modern format it is quite difficult not to get there, given the fact that even taking third place, a team can get a ticket through an additional tournament. By the way, now bookmakers estimate Turkey's chances of winning Europe 24 as 1 to 51, and Wales' chances as 1 to 81 - at least this means that bookmakers consider Turkey to be the favorite in the fight for second place in Group D.
I think have two team will qualify to UEFA Euro 2024 final stage between first and second standing team, with new format on EURO 2024 have 23 participants team will play in the final round. Still have chance for Türkiye will get final ticket for EURO 2024 because on current standing position have three points and left 1 points from Croatia and Wales have 4 points.

UEFA Euro qualifiers have 6 matches left with Türkiye on group D and have five national teams, I think Türkiye  will win with matches left against Armenia and Latvia are weakness national team in this group. But if Croatia and Wales consistent winning all matches left will be difficult for Türkiye get automatically ticket to EURO 2024 in Germany.

Arnar Thor Vidarsson is no longer the coach of the icelandic national team. the 45-yo, who had been national coach since the end of 2020, must leave after the first two matchdays of the uefa euro 2024 qualifiers. following the 0-3 opening defeat vs. bosnia-herzegovina, the icelandic football association feels forced to take this step despite the subsequent 7-0 win over liechtenstein

But still, Wales has qualified for important international tournaments quite frequently when it qualified for Euro 2016, Euro 2020 and 2022 World Cup.
It's very sad in my opinion, that Bale is not playing for Wales anymore. We'll see how Wales will keep performing without him.

This is the issue when teams are dependent on one or two players. We have Belgium being dependent on Lukaku and Norway being dependent on Håland. And until very recently, Portugal was a one-man army led by Cristiano Ronaldo. In case of Wales, also it was the same thing. Gareth Bale is a legend, and he retired when he was still at his peak. Played more than 100 international matches for Wales, scoring a total of 41 goals. But he decided that it was time to move on, and currently he is focusing on Major League Soccer (MLS), where he represents the Los Angeles FC.

Very true. Scotland, Wales and Ireland are getting not very much attention, but especially when playing at home, they are all very difficult to play against.
Ireland gave France (which won against Netherlands 4-0) a hard time as well and France is a top team.
I believe it's justified to expect more tough games from UK teams (Scotland, Wales and Ireland)

Ireland (as long as we are referring to the Republic of Ireland, and not Northern Ireland) is not a part of the United Kingdom and it is an independent country.
Sure, Mr. geographics professor.  Cheesy
It's still a soccer discussion here where I was referring to Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland + Wales (except England which is a known favorite) but I should have outlined it better, that Ireland is indeed an independent country, similar as (for example) Portugal, Norway or Ukraine are also independent countries.  Wink

But apart from England, the performance of all these teams went down when compared to the 1990s.

Things aren't going on well for Turkey for now. They could have played much better against Croatia. In the first half they were good actually but this didn't reflect on the score. The second half wasn't much of an impressive one later on. Wales won their game in the meantime and now Turkey are at the third place. It looks like the games against Wales are going to be more important for Turkey to take the second place at least.

Maybe they can even think of a manager change while there is a long break until the next games in the qualifiers because Kuntz is criticized a lot now.

Only first two teams in the group will go to the Euros but i think Turkiye will have a hard battle with Wales for this second spot. I think Croatia will easily pass the group even with their four points currently. I think the matchup between wales and turkiye will decide

No such thing. In addition to the first two places, three more teams will receive a ticket to the final tournament, which will be the winners of an additional mini-tournament with three "branches". The composition of the participants in this mini-tournament will be determined based on the success of the teams in the League of Nations (as you understand, the most successful teams will receive a ticket without it, which means their places will go to the less successful ones).

In my opinion, the victory of Croatia against Turkey was obvious, as Croatia "unplanned" lost points in the game with Wales and had to correct the situation. As for Turkey, this team has long suffered hard times and the situation is not improving, so their chances against a motivated Croatia, even in the home game, were minimal.

If the Turkish national team coach changes, things will change in the group. In the second match, Türkiye takes the field stronger. But if Kuntz stays, Türkiye's job will be difficult, even impossible. There are names that are spoken about change. For example, if Sergen Yalçın becomes the head of the national team, there will be a great change in the positive direction. It's clear that there will be no long-term success with Kuntz. Participating in Euro 2024 is a must for the country. This country can't afford to miss another big tournament.

ball possession of up to 75% does not guarantee that Spain will be successful in scoring goals, as the host, Scotland managed to make it look difficult for Spain to penetrate their defense. even though as a midfielder, mcTominay successfully became the man of the match in this match with the 2 beautiful goals he made. for a while, Scotland has been at the top of group A standings with 6 points and no defeats, while mctominay has succeeded in becoming one of the top scorers with 4 goals he has made so far (competing with cristiano).
You can hold the ball on your own line for the whole game and if you are not attacking then you are not going to win anything. I personally believe that possession football has lost its magic, it's more the time for teams that play a direct football, like go straight to the opponent and try to have a chance, if you fail then you will defend and wait for your turn and attack again.

That type of aggressive offensive strategy has worked out well recently and I believe that is why Spanish way is getting less and less attention, plus they haven't been able to win anything for a long time, not even too high in any of the tournaments neither.

Ball possession means nothing if you don't have someone to score a goal. Defensive players can pass the ball between them and increase the possession but it means absolutely nothing. Span is famous for having the control of the ball, but I guess there wasn't anyone to score a goal. Croatia is similar as they like to have control of the ball, but often when the chance comes, there's no one to score.

Well.. that is the point. Spain is having a very young team, and we can expect this sort of performance from them until they get settled down. But still I would say that Spain is not a dying team (unlike the case with some of the UEFA nations such as Belgium, Germany, Danmark and Netherlands). There is still a lot of talent available in Spain and most of them are of local origin (unlike some of the other countries who are overdependent on foreign-born players). Their next match is scheduled for 8th September, when they will take on Georgia.
