Right now this will be considered very interesting, because we will have France in context, which is a team that comes with a slight sting that there was for not having been able to bring back the FIFA trophy in Qatar, we also have a Germany that has a drastic injury that was occasioned in this World Cup and a Portugal that did not include its best star, now, if the defending champion of the last Euro was Portugal, it is a matter of time only to have CR7 to see what level his team reaches, will he be called up? Could it be that they will take it into account now, will it be Mourinho who has it for better things? This Euro is very interesting to know what things can happen with these teams that are the most famous.

Last time France was humiliated by Switzerland during the PQF (Round of 16) stage. And there was a lot of drama after they crashed out of the Euro cup. There was a clash between the parents of Adrien Rabiot on one side, and Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe on the other side. England was another team that went through some turbulence after the tournament, after some of their younger players missed the penalty kicks. Ironically, the team that won the Euro Cup back in 2021 (Italy) failed to even qualify for Qatar 2022.

Mou does not want CR7 to leave, he wants to count on him for both the Euro and the next World Cup

mourinho will not coach portugal, mourinho knows that leaving roma to train in portugal is much more likely to destroy his reputation and it would not be an easy task to lead portugal to win things, and mourinho is a coach who likes to win things, when he joins a team he wants to be given all the resources so he can win things, in italy rome is very confident that mourinho will stay as coach of roma

Roma director confident Mourinho will not leave for Portugal job

I believe that a soccer player when he is 35-37 years old should not retire if he considers that he still has a lot to do. what to give, because then it would be frustrating, for me what CR7 is doing is very good, I know people say that age is a number, but we cannot forget the experience he has, he is also a star

attacking players usually retire between 32 and 39 years old, that's because coaches don't care much that an attacking player over 30 years old ignores the defense and stays only in the attack as long as that player is scoring goals, the problem of ronaldo is right here, he doesn't have the same speed as before, the same dribbling as before and he doesn't score many goals anymore, just see that he can even spend many games without even scoring 1 goal, that's not a good thing for a 37-year-old striker, he no longer has the qualities to play for the big European clubs

Messi with his 36 -37 years old, he won a world cup, he did not know what banking was in the World Cup, just like Luka Modric and they led their countries to the top, in Portugal Fernando Santos failed.

Messi is 35 years old, in addition messi has a quality that ronaldo and many players do not have, messi is not just a striker like ronaldo or mbappe or haaland or benzema or lewandowski, messi manages to coordinate all the teams by occupying various positions on the field and doing this task better that the players of that position

Yes, it is curious, I read that in one of the stories that I saw in a document that appears on HBO +, and the son of CR7 appeared, although lately I have seen more information about it and apparently CR7 wants to retire from football at the At the age of 40, I think that if he does it at that age, he will be able to fulfill his son, because he could already be a youth player who, if he is very good, could be considered to play with the professional, well at least I have seen that in some leagues. Maybe with the influence of CR7 they will make it a reality, you never know, I think that at 16 they could make a possible exception, I don't know how things are in the laws of football, but I see it as possible.

After the loss to Morocco during the quarter-finals, I was sad to see Ronaldo sobbing and getting emotional. By the time of the next world cup, he will be 41 years old. I don't know whether he will continue playing till then. But if he decides against retiring immediately, a lot of the fans will be overjoyed. No matter what happened during this world cup (it was the stupidity from Fernando Santos that cost Portugal the QF match), my opinion is that Ronaldo should give another try in 2026. He is still one of the top football players in the world.
No doubt Ronaldo is an exceptional footballer in this era, and he would still love to play even at the age of 45. But the problem is his inability to adapt to the changes he will encounter. (1) no coach will want to make a footballer in his late thirties the first choice of his team, especially when the performance is below target.  2) a player at that age is limited to a particular hour of performance. All these are factors Ronaldo is currently finding difficult to adapt to. He still wants to be seen as the team's first choice, and this strive will continue to torture him till when he chooses to resign. I presume we have witnessed the end of Ronaldo's era, is high time he resigns with dignity.

According to the news that everyone is talking about, Mou does not want CR7 to leave, he wants to count on him for both the Euro and the next World Cup, I believe that a soccer player when he is 35-37 years old should not retire if he considers that he still has a lot to do. what to give, because then it would be frustrating, for me what CR7 is doing is very good, I know people say that age is a number, but we cannot forget the experience he has, he is also a star, Messi with his 36 -37 years old, he won a world cup, he did not know what banking was in the World Cup, just like Luka Modric and they led their countries to the top, in Portugal Fernando Santos failed.

I left betting on national teams after the World Cup ended but Germany were one of the best playing teams in the World Cup. They just had issues with finishing and said farewell to the tourney in group stage unluckily. I see Germans as favourites of the tourney with their host country advantage as a result.

Same here. I normally make bet only for international tournaments, especially those organized by FIFA or UEFA. The next FIFA world cup will be on 2026, and we need to wait for another 1.5 years for the next Euro Cup. The AFC Asian Cup is scheduled to start on 16th June this year in China. But I am not sure whether it will go ahead because of COVID concerns. Euro 2024 will kickstart on 14th June 2024. There will be a total of 24 participants, similar to the previous edition. Maybe they can expand the number of participants from 2028 onwards, given the expansion being planned for 2026 FIFA world cup.

What happened in Almenaia was something very resounding, the fact that Toni Kross took a step back to give a younger player a new opportunity was not something very intelligent, because the German team lacked a good midfielder who played to Muller, the fact of calling veteran players was a good idea because they have experience, as in the case of Gotze, the new players are good, but they do not have experience, it was not only a mistake by Germany, it was also a mistake by Portugal, they left their best star sitting on the bench, that is something that should not be allowed for anything in the world, things should be seen that way.

In the qualifying rounds, the group that will be interesting to watch is Group C among the other groups based on the draw that has been made because it contains two finalist teams last season between Italy and England.
If both of them make it through the qualifiers, then their rivalry will continue even though after the draw Italy and England will not be in the same group anymore.

I am still backing the team that made it to the World Cup finals in Qatar, France, in this tournament.

If Portugal is rumoured to be without Fernando Santos as the coach who dared to bench Ronaldo instead of playing him full time in the 2022 World Cup, we are also looking forward to Zidane accompanying Kylan Mbappe in the France team despite Deschamps' good performance as a coach.

Ronaldo is one of the best players in his generation. There's no doubt in that. However, the problem is his attitude because he won't admit that he is too old to be the most important player in the team. I'm talking about national team and in a club. There are many younger players that can and will replace him.
People believe Ronaldo is too old, but yet he was performing at a great level until Ten Hag was appointed manager and then he started embarrassing Ronaldo and destroying his confidence, Ronaldo was United's best player last season and he scored more goals that any United player, but yet people say he is too old. Players that are as great as Ronaldo can be forgiven for having some ego or pride, they have contributed so much to football, and in my humble opinion both Ten Hag and Santos the former manager of Portugal disrespected Ronaldo so much. Do not be surprised if Ronaldo plays for Portugal in Euro 2024.
if he plays at euro 2024 it means it will be a surprise for everyone although of course his performance is not like when he was young, sometimes people start to forget football players who already look old and always admire talented young players even though ronaldo was a great player in his time young everyone used to know about him, that's why I think in Al Nasst ronaldo find the right club because it's not a matter of the club and it is appreciated but at least where those who pay more are where they will feel comfortable and valued

I don't know about 2024. But as far as 2022-23 is concerned, he remains as the best Portuguese player (you can disagree with me). I am not denying the fact that Portugal has a bunch of younger guys looking forward to replace Ronaldo in the squad, including João Félix, Rafael Leão and Bernardo Silva. But my take is that none of these players have the ability to single-handedly win the matches for their team. Ronaldo maybe out of form right now, but his class is permanent. I am sure that he will regain his form soon and make an impact during the Euro 2024.

You still see him as the 27-year-old Ronaldo. He's not that guy anymore and if you do not accept it then you only lying to yourself. What he knows how to do right now is to score goals, and even at that there are dozens of players that know how to score goals better than him. It's normal for these things to happen. Hell Be 38 this year for christ's sake. Its nature.
His refusal to accept his fact is why he sees a problem with being on the bench. Old players get relegated to the bench at that point of their career, it's not new. Ibrahimovic at AC Milan comes in from the bench and he plays his role to help the team.

If he was in a team like Man City then his pattern of play might have been utilized by Pep since he's a good goal scorer but he chose Man United instead which was the being for his problems. United does not have the team to work balls for him to score and the addition of Ten Hag makes it worst.

1xBit.. recovered their reputation
you are right that young players will replace old players, this is not Ronaldo's problem why not play maybe because his performance has decreased compared to young players, old players like Ronaldo and other old players should also be aware of that and be prepared to be replaced, as before of course ronaldo used to be a young player replacing previous players who were retired and old, so i think people need to face the reality of that even though it's bitter
That would be a reasonable attitude but humans can be very unreasonable at times, what you are describing is just the way things work everywhere, with new generations taking over the older generations which in return they will be overtaken by newer generations as well, but this can be very difficult for some people to accept, in fact in other sports many star players retire before they are benched as their pride does not allow them to accept this new reality, so either Ronaldo accepts that being benched is now a possibility at Portugal or he retires from his national team.
I think what Santos (ex-Portugal coach) has done is very correct by backing up CR7 and prioritizing young players because of many considerations, that is football must regenerate

Until now the new Portugal coach has not been inaugurated, and rumors are circulating that the Portuguese football federation will prioritize coaches who prioritize CR7 to play! If the rumor is true I think it will be a setback for Portuguese football especially since Euro 2024 qualifiers will start

If Ronaldo wants to stop his international career, that is completely understandable. He was basically passed over at the World Cup and is no longer part of the squad. Do you still want to continue? The coach apparently only has a role for him as a substitute. Many players would settle for that, but Ronaldo is too big a name to settle for. He wants to be in the base and otherwise not play. Many teams use so-called pinchitters, which can change a game in the last minutes of the game. Understandably, Ronaldo doesn't feel like it. His choice could also have to do with the fact that he is now going to the desert to play football there. Knowing in the back of his mind that he would no longer be in the base of Portugal. He could still be of great value for the qualification for the European and World Cup.

Everyone wants him to continue for a few more years, at least until Euro 2024. But I won't be surprised if he decides to retire immediately. He is already 37 years old and although he is in good form the stress and strain of playing top quality football continuously for two decades can take its toll. And on top of that, the harsh treatment meted out to him during Qatar 2022 will always be in his mind. He has achieved most of the things he targeted. Those remaining can't be achieved even if he plays for the next few years (such as winning the world cup).

@Sithara007 he won’t retire immediately from international football, because he’ll first wait and see who the new coach is and does the new coach make him feel that he’s part of his plan’s going forward. However if the new coach too gives him the cold shoulder then he’ll have no option but to retire immediately and save his dignity, and lastly I hope that he at least gets a farewell match because he definitely deserves one.

Realistically, if the rumors are true, Ronaldo has already taken a very expensive football retirement in Saudi Arabia, and will be playing for big money in a weak and uncompetitive league.
There is absolutely no example in world football that someone who plays in such a weak league still performs for his national team.
Ronaldo was also the biggest disruptive factor at the World Cup in Qatar because much more was written about why he was not playing instead of the performances of the Portuguese national team.
For these reasons, I think that Ronaldo will no longer play for the Portuguese national team, regardless of who will be the new coach of the national team.

They are not rumors anymore,he has signed, everyone made it public,he signed in Saudi Arabia for the signing of his life in terms of money but this does not mean that he cannot play one last Euro with the Portugal team.He will be old enough by then but I think many other talented players like Romario has played for Brazil up to a relatively old age for the national team while he continued to play in Brazil for many years even after being 40 years old.

I don't think he will be disruptive this time as he knows that he will not be the star of the Portuguese team at that age so most likely he is going to be an asset for the team if he chooses to play in this upcoming Euro cup.

Seems that Italy and England can't be separated Cheesy. It will be interesting to see their games again. As I understand, draw pots were based not on FIFA rankings, but on Nation League. And it made not very ballanced groups. In some groups there is 2 big teams playing like B or C, and there is some groups without any big teams like G and I.
As I understand, Germany will play friendlies during international windows.
I was also looking that I should open this topic but this has already been written.
So I was saying that Turkey team is very very tough and there will be Hugh competition with the Turkey and Wales fights. In my opinion that Turkey might be first cause it's the best of best team in this group.
And also France, england and other such teams are also a good match for competition. Let's see what will happen in coming days. My hopes are full high with the Turkey.

Playing under the current coach is not an ideal scenario for Ronaldo. If Fernando Santos continues as the coach, then I don't think that Ronaldo should remain active in international football anymore.

Fernando Santos was fired from Portugal

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/dec/15/fernando-santos-sacked-by-portugal-after-world-cup-quarter-final-defeat

https://www.eurosport.com/football/world-cup/2022/fernando-santos-sacked-by-portugal-after-world-cup-exit-and-controversial-cristiano-ronaldo-axe_sto9275463/story.shtml

https://nypost.com/2022/12/15/fernando-santos-fired-by-portugal-after-ronaldo-world-cup-drama/

but the fact that the portugal coach was dismissed and put another coach who is in favor of ronaldo on the team, i doubt that that coach who was in favor of ronaldo would put ronaldo on the team and the reason is simple, ronaldo is no longer with the same physical shape he had in the past, for some unknown reason 3 months before this new manchester united coach joined, ronaldo was already deteriorating a lot in performance and when the new manchester united coach joined, ronaldo did not go to the training games and already I kept disagreeing with the training methods of the former manchester united coach

in the portugal team ronaldo once again criticized the portugal coach and as the portugal coach didn't like the criticism he put ronaldo on the bench, and with that there was a feeling of discomfort in the portugal team. the biggest of ronaldo's problems is that in addition to not being fitter, he has been criticizing the coaches and that's not a good thing because he's just a player and owes the coaches obedience

now that he has gone to play in a lower league i can't see him being at the same level to play in the portugal team knowing that in portugal in recent times there have been many new players with incredible talent, ronaldo should retire and become a coach, this could even be a good solution for him

He humiliated and insulted him during Qatar 2022 and never faced any consequence for his actions. The reason why Portugal lost to Morocco is solely due to blunders from Santos. And despite all that, he was badmouthing Ronaldo whenever he got a chance. I understand that CR7 is keen to play along with his son in Euro 2024 and FIFA 2026, but if he continues to get insulted, then there is no point.
While what happened probably bothers Ronaldo it is my impression that what really bothers him is how all of this happened, the biggest impact of a coach when it comes to soccer is on the morale of his players, and in part this help us explain why after a coach is fired a team begins to play better simply because they now have faith on the new coach, however it seems to me as if Santos never touched the topic of being benched with Ronaldo and he just did as he wished during the most important soccer tournament of the world and Ronaldo could do nothing about it.
