Watched when he was still in the kickboxing ring back from 2017 before his years in the UFC.
GLORY 49: Alex Pereira v Yousri Belgaroui
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovG_nxInb3E

Pretty crazy how small he looked beside Yousri this Turkish fighter who later helped him train to fight Israel.

And yeah @cabron
Now remember it was Bobby who Paddy is going to fight once you mentioned it. Not a good fight to make and would rather see Merab wouldn't you? hah!
Due to his and Suga Show's rivalry which had since just abruptly died suddenly.

As I had mentioned in an earlier post on this page that the London card will be quite boring. Belal would be the most boring champ if he manages to win against Leon. That is facts! hahah! Grin
After seeing the promos I did see they added Paddy the Baddy to the card just because they knew how it looked. But didn't even see whom he will be fighting so it could save this card from utter disaster as many have been lately.
Just look what they did with the surprise presser for 305 the other day with Adesanya and Dricus.
It is if they knew people would probably just skip over that event and want to see the 305 instead. Wink

@PumaRed
Just as I was typing out this, I had to update it so to include a response to your post.

Agreed with you for both points made.
Islam fights look similar so hard to tell which is which. But the sweep to the leg done to Poirier, after the fight he had mentioned that he had seen this move used successfully only one other time in his entire career.
And to the other point, fighters who go to the ground so much are quite boring to watch if they don't do anything.
Just to hold his opponent in half guard most of the fight.
I remember there was  one fight this year that even the referee got so sick of one fighter doing this, that he stood them up several times because the fight wasn't going anywhere and was so boring to watch.

It's that situation, Makhachev is a good fighter, but his fighting style is not good to watch, it's tiring. But like I said, he's a good fighter. I would like to see him against Poatan without him going to the ground. It would be something really interesting to see.

No fight this weekend. Sad.
There is no UFC event this week but there is no shortage of news in MMA, I think everyone will watch Diaz vs Masvidal boxing on July 6.
Yeah, I think I'd rather just watch that and be entertained by the toughness of Diaz.
UFC 304 will be the next big thing. Leon Edwards will be defending his title one more time. His opponent is a strong fighter with 9 winning streak Belal Muhammad. When it comes to toughness, we can say he is tough that he won most of his fights through unanimous decision. Stamina won't be a problem for him too as he was tested by Gilbert Burns and he survived a 5-rounder while battling him.
Included in that fight in the main card is Paddy Pimblett with an amazing 7 winning streak. I had fun watching him last time against Tony Ferguson so I won't miss this one.

LOL Despite Belal being the most boring fighter, he still brags about his achievements like he is the best in the division.  Paddy is fighting Bobby Green by the way.

There's something to watch though such as;
Tom Aspinall vs Curtis Blaydes 2 - Though this fight is not really necessary, UFC still wants it to happen. Tom shafted again.
Muhammad Mokaev vs Manel Kape   - Mokaev could be the next champ in the division.

In my prediction for this last card, I did well, getting Garry Machado, Diego Lopes and Poatan Pereira right. I feel good about having gotten difficult fights right, especially Diego Lopes who had to change weight three times.
That fight did not get one of the fight of the night bonuses and as many have already said they don't know why.
One of fights which didn't deserve to get one which was the Fili fight did.
Lopes got the short end of the stick of the entire fight card. For those who said he didn't are just plain crazy.
@cabron
There is no UFC this weekend and it resumes on the 13th of July instead for that card in Denver.
They had a press conference for UFC 305 called on sale so to keep the conversation going even during this over a week long break.
This is the link to it from the official UFC channel:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KyXy10ZmmY
Ya imagine two weeks of no event so at least we just have one weekend of nothing to check.  Rose vs Cortez is still something to watch. Maybe they will book someone new soon.
The list of the best fighters by weight class has been released and Poatan is in second place. I think I'm biased, but he should be first since Islam hasn't fought in years and his fights haven't been convincing. He always does the same thing, when he can't, he keeps the fight on the ground.
2nd on the P4p list which means he surpassed Jones already. Islam just fought with Dustin recently and gave their best like this the BMF fight. But you're right about fighting on the ground though. When it's wrestling, it's not pounding.
PumaRed which fighter are you referring too?
If the number one is Islam Makhachev than he fought Dustin Poirier just last month.
An update for the diamond as many thought that was going to be his last fight in the octagon:
https://www.mmamania.com/2024/7/1/24189794/forget-retirement-dustin-poirier-teases-last-dance-after-working-ufc-303-uno-mas

So one more time for him, while Makhachev had mentioned about not wanting a rematch July 1st:
https://www.si.com/fannation/mma/news/ufc-news-islam-makhachev-responds-to-dustin-poirier-rematch-offer

Heard of this about Khabib Nurmagomedov having tax problems in his own country but didn't know he fled to another place to avoid being arrested.
He might need to comeback to Daddy Dana to get out of it with another contract.
Now him and McGregor would be a clash of the titans and many would pay big money to see that happen.

You're right, Makhachev fought recently. It's just that the fight was so similar to the others that I can't tell the difference.

Personally, I don't like the way he fights, he holds too much, stays on the ground for too long and it's very boring to watch.

If during the fight there are some falls and fights on the ground it is valid, I don't see any problems. However, using this all the time as a way of fighting becomes something very predictable to watch, which is why I don't like it so much.

Did anyone heard latest big news about ex UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov?
He is in big trouble with Russian government because of unpaid debt and taxes, and he had to escape from country and take citizenship in another country.
McGregor commented about this but I am waiting to hear what Khabib has to say.

This division is exactly what was needed to make it more interesting.
But now with what looks to be a move it will suffer once more.
Many on the MMAFightingSBN show yesterday mentioned if he(Alex Pereira wanted to move up he would more likely face Volkov next before getting a shot at any other.

Meanwhile in the next matchups for the UFC fight night in Denver, Maycee Barber was going to be the main event fighter but is replaced with Tracey Cortez versus Rose Namajunas instead:

https://www.bjpenn.com/mma-news/maycee-barber/maycee-barber-explains-why-she-pulled-out-of-ufc-denver-main-event-with-rose-namajunas
https://www.mmafighting.com/2024/6/25/24186089/maycee-barber-out-tracy-cortez-expected-to-face-rose-namajunas-at-ufc-denver

Alex Pereira vs Volkov. I think Alex should be going to HW already. If UFC thinks they could make money out of this match, why not. It can be arranged especially if they can make this happen in Saudi, they like big men fighting in the cage. It should still be good to watch.

The UFC Denver FN card isn't very interesting. But better than nothing to watch this weekend. Will just try betting on Rose. Cortez may have a great 11-1 record but Rose fought the best in flyweight. She's maybe even better than Barbers.

Yeah @notblox1 that's why even Joe Rogan was trying to poke at Pereira in the post fight interview in the octagon if he was wanting to move up in weight-class to be a triple title holder in three different divisions.
Which is insane if you think about it sine the he was fast tracked the way he was into the UFC chasing Adesanya's success.

The next fight isn't for a couple of weeks and the PPV in London is a 'meh' after seeing the promo video being flashed up during the last fight inbetween even before the main event started.
The main event with Edwards vs Belal looks like the most boringest fight promotional-wise ever in the UFC.

So we can start talking about that fight that could push Poatan to seek more prey for his Shaman. Grin

What they said was really true that Alex was brought to UFC because of Adesanya because they were rivals in kickboxing and then in the end, Alex surpasses the achievement of Adesanya which Alex has 2 belts and still smashing the guys challenging him.

Izzy despite beating Alex was more of a butt hurt still. He even posted a video of him KOing Alex after the UFC 303. He is always vocal in predicting Alex to lose in every fight but Alex always wins.
But Alex in an interview wishes Izzy to win against DDP. I think Izzy will also win in UFC 305, the card is yet not finalized, so you can expect cancellations once again and short-notice fights.

What a win this was for Alex Pereira!
You can see that he has a kickboxing background, and there is no way anyone could survive that and stay on their feet.
Pereira is the king of Light Heavyweight division and I dont know anyone who can compete on the same level with him.
I think Ankalaev is his next on the line for him, but this wont be easy fight for him.

That head kick looked so innocent. I guess that shows any strike can be detrimental if it isn’t defended against.
They called this the Shaman Kick as you said, it looked harmless enough but had enough force to knock him down again. Just like he did at the horn at the end first round but from his left fist instead of his left foot.

-snip-
He hurt himself in the process. He knew it was over when it landed but Herb Dean took his time and doubted him so he must finish the fight with his hammer fist. Cheesy
Truly, it looks like just a simple kick, and yet Jiri was still having a hard time standing up when he was helped by the referee. He is still wobbly after it and as I look at the close-up, it hits his temple which might have shaken his head.

That's a win for me. It ain't large but still a win.
Honestly, I jumped when I saw the head kick and I knew it was over.

I think he should move up. Don't look forward to the Trilogy, it won't be as much fun as this 2nd fight anymore. People are just going to get bored with it and the odds won't be that fun to bet for too.
Target the champion at the next level and create history.
He is too strong for his division now, even my wife told me while watching the fight that it was like an unfair match. No disrespect to Jiri.
Forgot they allowed live betting on UFC now too.
So if you had enough time to place a bet then the delay must not be that much for it to go through mid fight.
Congrats on the win danherbias07!

There might not be a trilogy since Alex won. They were also suggesting Alex move up to fight Aspinall and some say fight Ankalev since Anka bravely said he would fight Alex standing. It's all up to Alex, if he takes the belt in the HW, it will be the first in UFC.

I think Jiri hasn't recovered from the knockdown right when the bell saves him in the first round. And his hands are always not up to protect his head, it becomes an easy target for a counter from Alex. Only this time Alex did a high kick.

It was said Alex team got a tip from Instagram after watching Jiri https://x.com/full_send_mma/status/1807298485810766234
Yeah, move on Jiri. The guy put you into the shadow realm twice that last fight and at this point it is over unless he likes punishment so much he asks for it yet again.
Dana's post fight interview was the most insightful one into so many different topics of not just where Alex wants to go next (move up to heavy weight and have the most epic fight of Bones Jones and him!) but of Noche at the sphere! He was saying he put in $17 million so far into promotions of this event, and that it had to be epic enough to make all of which the gate was for this fight event at $16 million.
Think he also mentioned that Conor was to bring in $20 million. I have to rewatch it as he threw out alot of different figures of gate numbers and talking about the sphere in September and how he had to bring on Saudi promotions for him to afford to do what he wanted to do for that fight card.
None of the fights had been confirmed yet as per what he said.
