I was about to write that too... But I am not sure about Northern Europe being the winners. They still need to pay for the gas, and it will be EU taxpayers who will be paying for the gas in Ukraine, as opposed to Russian taxpayers (the subsidies to Ukraine were taken from Russian state budget) from the past years.

And those are not taxpayers money? Couldn't those money have been spent on something good for the russian people? not ukraine?

Northern Europe are winners in case of supplies failure. Because they will be able to resell russian gas, which was received through North Stream. It's all a game of northern countries against southern, that's why GB&Germany are making these senseless provocations.

Does Ukraine has any choice? It looks like Putin is holding the strings.

The problem is , can they pay? Even if they want  , there is no way in hell they could come with that amount out of the blue.

loans..

they certainly won't allow their nation to freeze to death, the question is will they pay the Russians or acquire gas from somewhere else..

For Russia, which damaged the images of it as the European stability and energy suppliers.
You know why North Stream was built? To give Europe stable supply.

Pissing match between Russia and Ukraine, apparently there are no winners. For Russia, which damaged the images of it as the European stability and energy suppliers. For three-quarters of natural gas to be imported from Russia Ukraine, not only oneself by the Russian "expired", its only considering their own benefit also criticized by other European countries.

If they didn't have money to pay it before, now they will have even less.

Well..  let me get this straight. Suppose you are going to the supermarket, and you are having only $4 with you. You want to buy some fruits. On one end there are cheap oranges for $4 / kg. There are also imported oranges from Spain, which will cost you $40 / kg. Which one you'll buy? The expensive one, or the cheap one?

If Ukraine doesn't have any money, then they shouldn't use the Russian gas. Period.

Well, they did have some money, until the gold reserve was looted by US. Besides, they were offered to still by on credit, but at market price.

Do I understand this correctly, that any obligations to pay on time shall be considered as blackmailing? If not, then what's your understanding of blackmailing?

Please don't take it personally. Roll Eyes

no, but raising price for no obvious reason for 2X is blackmailing, specialy when you know that the thing you are selling is not replacable.

Are you joking? No payments over the last years, refusal to pay for new deliveries.

If they didn't have money to pay it before, now they will have even less.

So in your country, it is perfectly OK to buy $2.5 billion worth of gas and then pay $23 million with the excuse that "we don't have any more money"?

Geesh... some people never fail to amaze me.

The people of Eastern Ukraine want to join Russia anyway. Then why bother paying billions of USD to the Kiev regime?

Oh... well... there is no other way for the Kiev regime to pay its debt. Their new masters (EU / US) won't give them a penny. All the US is saying that they will transfer the Ukrainian debt to the US banks.  Grin

That is exactly what Putin is going to do. May be we can fix the price at $150 / hectare.
