Due to safety purposes, remember what happened to Fukushima.  I suppose that building gasline there is relatively risky.

I simply can't fathom this. Why build LNG terminals in Sakhalin to supply most of the LNG from there to Japan which is just a few (hundred) miles away? Shocked

I don't know. Perhaps the ocean is too deep to build a natural gas pipeline there.

Starting only in 2018 and only 38 billion cubic meters a year which is a way less than 139 billion cubic meters of gas that Gazprom supplied Europe with in 2012... Cool

The construction of LNG terminals in Sakhalin is nearing completion. Most of the LNG from there will be supplied to Japan. Combined, China and Japan will soon overtake the EU as Gazprom's largest trade partner.

I don't see people moving in Detroit , why should the buy properties in Ukraine Smiley

I have heard that the Ukrainian soil is one of the most fertile in the world. The top soil reaches 10 meters depth in some regions. And right now, the land is very cheap in Ukraine. Also, Ukraine is having huge reserves of coal.

And it will continue to grow and gas will continue to flow until there will be no Ukraine in place to pay the bills.

What happened in Latvia and Lithuania will repeat itself in Ukraine. The population will decline by 30% or more (due to emigration) and all the valuable properties will be sold to the foreigners at dirt cheap rates.

Russia to deliver gas to Ukraine only on prepayment - Putin
http://rt.com/business/159200-ukraine-gas-russia-payment/

Quote
“Moreover, the situation with payments for Russian gas only got worse over this period of time. Gazprom has not received a single payment for the gas supplied to Ukraine, and the total debt has grown from $2.237 billion to $3.508 billion,” the president stressed.

“And this despite the fact that Ukraine has received the first tranche of the IMF loan in the amount of $3.2 billion,” he added.

I think this was pretty evident (that Gazprom wouldn't get paid after the overthrow of Yanukovych). Russia should discuss such matters directly with Europe, not Ukraine... Cool

Oh, well... They seem to have already tried (Putin's letter to European leaders)! Grin

I'm almost willing to bet that that they will not  pay a cent and they will still receive that gas.

Most probably that is going to happen. If Gazprom shuts off the gas supply to Ukraine, it will disrupt the flows to Central Europe. But I can foresee a lengthy and bitter legal battle.
There will never be a lack of customers for Russian energy. Sending shale oil to Europe (sometime in the future) will be very costly and dirty. It's just a mask for the impotence of the West to deal with need for Russian energy. It's just for domestic consumption. In fact, right now the US is giving money to the Ukraine coup regime to pay Russia for its gas bill.

If it were only domestic consumption I think the problem could have been solved , but unfortunately it's not

You are not getting the real motive of the Americans.

They want the Europeans to buy oil and gas exclusively from the Arabs (Qataris, Emiratis, Saudis, Kuwaitis.etc). Obama knows that for every $10 the Arabs earn from selling oil and gas, $5 will return to the American companies which are working in sectors such as defence. Already Saudi Arabia is the no.1 importer of American weapons.

All these screams about "games", "threats" are nothing more than stupid jokes. Ukraine wants to continue using service while having over $3 billion debt.... If you don't pay your utility bills, then electricity and gas will be turned off. You have to deal with it and pay for services according to contract.

I'm almost willing to bet that that they will not  pay a cent and they will still receive that gas.
Of course, due to blackmailing... Quite predictable for Ukrainian business approaches.
