[We don't cut corners (e.g. embedded controller, etc) and we use dc2dc which means that the BOM is higher.]

And I commend you for that, but I can also see why you are leaning towards sticking to larger form-factors for the future, where you don't have to even consider cutting corners in order to stay competitive and turn a profit. One thing that was clear from your SP20's is that you care about the quality of your product. It's a shame that the hardware becomes obsolete so quickly.

Is there any particular reason other than wanting to stick to a single model, rapid deployment for data-centers that you would not consider a larger form factor 3rd gen miner that requires external PSU('s)?  For those on the small farm scale, it gives us an opportunity to save costs without being too much of a burden in setup.

Its getting very expensive because of a monopoly of the technology, or lack or competition, or monopolizing the the industry because of trade secrets and cost of development, to mine a speculative crypto currency.

Because the people developing the miners, are realizing it's easier and more profitable to deal with big farms, or simply mine for themselves, than to deal with every whiney ass customer with a complaint.

If spondoolie is smart, they release bulk sales only, and allow only authorized dealers to resell, let them deal with the people. Let spon spend their time on new tech!

That philosophy was declared by BFL Josh.  Not sure how it's going to work out for them in the long run.

decentralized currency = more decentralized more reward = less data center = more reward.

please release something sponfoolies so i can get some more equipent.
Hey @ChineseSavior, it's nice to see your change of heart (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.9800379).

Unfortunately, it seems that Bitcoin is going towards large scale mega mining by 3-4 companies - BitFury, AntPool (https://blockchain.info/pools - 20% !), KNC and maybe later also 21e6 (if they'll be able to create a competitive next gen) and SFARDS (with their upcoming 16)

If we want to compete in this market, we must create a form factor suitable for rapid mass deployment.
If the market conditions will allow it, we might attempt another small form factor, more suitable for the home miner.
I've posted something about "share mines" in our thread, this might be another offerings for the little guys.

The SP20 turned into a great success in our community, but was it simply not at the price point you would have liked to sell it at in quantity?  It almost seems to me "too" well made, only in that it's harder to keep competitive price-wise when it comes to comparing hardware specs when the package you're offering is of greater quality.  The new Avalon (apart from being too little too late in the tech department) seems to be suffering a considerably worse fate in the same regard.
We lost on the SP20. It came a bit too late and the price crash didn't help.

While you may have directly lost on the SP20, the other sales and reputation you built as a company from putting out a product that good is hard to measure.

I think the trick here is that Bitcoin was never meant to be a speculative investment but rather a payment and wealth transfer system.

its not dead just noody is releasing any machines. im screwed

Bitmain will be either releasing a new miner or an upgrade for the S2 shortly that they say will be drawing only .4 watts per GH at the wall.

Spondoolies is in the process of making their Gen3 hardware which will be more for industrial size miners but they said if the market is there for a home miner (which it is) then they will look at making a gen 3 home miner as well.

ASICMiner is designed their next gen as well but as long as it is better than the prisma and not such a fire hazard then it should be pretty competitive.

people have been saying that home mining is dead since the first ASIC's were announced haha

Home mining is definitely not dead... just a little more difficult.

So I have right now running 2 SP20 running off a EVGA G2 1300w. Theyre showing "wall watts at about 620-640 watts" each. Is it too much? They hash at about 1170-1190Gh/s.

The "wall watt" figure on the "ASIC Status" screen is an estimate, which is calculated using what the mining hardware knows about it's internal consumption. My limited experience of 1 SP20 shows that figure to be higher than what I measure at the wall. I run an EVGA 1000W G2 which I think is more efficient than the calculation anticipates.

I expect that your 620-640 would actually be under 600 at the wall if you measured it. I think you are fine.

I just finished setting up my new SP20 Nano farm up in the basement.

I used a d-link DIR-615 with dd-wrt installed to make a client bridge and hooked all the SP20's up with ethernet from the router.

Downloaded firmware 2.6.14, set voltages to 0.62 startup and 0.636 max.

Getting about 1125GH/s per unit at ~590W. Running 2 on a 1300W PSU and the other on a 1000W PSU. Fan speed at 20% seems to keep all ASICs at 85c and exit temps at 60c for the top shelf unit. You can't even really hear them at all upstairs unless you stand by the stairway.

Definitely pleased with this purchase!

good I hope you do well with them.
