The hardware war starts yet again with this new tech of a crypto currency.

VNL is already past CPU and phasing out of GPU & now onto FPGA, you all know what's next when companies want to make that money, ASIC's hence the "Hardware War"

Is it just the ZTEX boards or are are there plans to develop a dedicated miner? From my understanding the ZTEX are just a  way to prototype something before mass producing a dedicated miner or is this incorrect?

Thanks

You might be thinking of MinerPP, which John built because of the "lack of high performance, extensible and scalable mining software required for high efficiency mining such as the Vanillacoin FPGA project."

The ZTEX 1.15y boards have been out for years, and there are old-time bitcoin miners who still have some.  I think ocminer has a number of them from years ago.

As far as I know, John will not be wasting time developing an ASIC to mine Vanillacoin.  Obviously, if VNL's marketcap goes past $500 million or something, someone will.

Why when i try mine this coin my cpu work until 100 % ?

Don't cpu mine imho, it's not cost efficient and you will only get dust.

Okay thanks for your info

GPU mining is probably the only effective way currently and we will soon have FPGA mining which will be beat GPUs in efficiency.

Do you have any more information on the FPGA mining? I seen on the Vanillacoin forums John messing around with MojoV3 and ZTEX 1.15y boards, but it seems to be in development stage as of yet. Will it be announced ahead of time when this will be ready to go and what hardware is needed, or will the advantage go to just those in the know?

The known information is on the official forum: https://talk.vanillacoin.net/topic/178/fpga-mining/7 and https://talk.vanillacoin.net/topic/178/fpga-mining/11

Unoptimized, the "ZTEX 1.15y (4 x LX150) tops out at 511 MH/s" at under 20w.  Optimized, it should do better.

John should release the ZTEX binaries once everything is optimized.

You can talk to cryptoflyr on IRC if you're more of a developer.  He's the main guy who's been working on FPGA other than John.  Several hours ago, he said that he's gotten the ZTEX to 600 MH/s.

They are running/testing them now on suprnova pool https://talk.vanillacoin.net/topic/178/fpga-mining once John is finished expect to see a public release.

You can run like endless wallets with a simple command in a bat file. ..

share? i've tried telling the client to use a different data folder (with other coin) (--data-dir path/to/some_other/dir) in the startup .bat, but no workee

-correction, i tried it in the target field of the prop. dialog

for ppl having trouble watching the vid from forum, here's the youtube link;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4Abhq313_8

Thanks for the working link mate. Smiley

Edit: I assume there is no audio? Also, the video shows mining in the wallet, is this going to be viable again or was it trying to describe something else? Without a narration it was hard to understand exactly what all was being presented. I get that zero time was instantaneous versus the normal transfer, but some of the other parts seemed to hint that something else was being explained.

Nah, nothing hidden, it was just probably John demonstrating that it's a working wallet.
