Can someone provide a link, instructions, or tutorial on how to join a p2p pool?  I just figured out how to mine in a traditional pool.  But I only have one gpu. I am thinking I should be able to do better in a p2p pool, correct?

Variance will be higher in p2pool than a normal pool. You connect just like a normal pool, but use your payment address as the username and any password as password. As a tiny miner you should either run p2pool yourself, or add "/.00001" to your username when you connect. That will increase the dust in your wallet (smaller payouts) but will prevent the variance where you get very few payouts. (They will average out to your expected earnings long-term but most small miners get frustrated with public nodes if they don't use the /.00001 trick.)

I'm running a patch atm to reduce small miner variance on my east p2pool node if you want to try it. Not as many shares as /.00001 but also less dust. Patch isn't needed if you install and run p2pool on your own computer.

Hmm. Difficulty seems to be going up again.
As does the BTC/USD rate. Good.

How much difference can a well setup pool make??  If you know how pools work, this will make your mouth water...

If you don't know how pools work, then you can trust that there are people out there making 2x or 3x as much VTC are you are making on your current pool.

Or, you can just ignore this all together and keep mining less than other people on good pools Smiley

Come on guys, this is getting a bit spammy now. I know you have a nice pool - I'm sure plenty of people will mine on it.

There's really no need to imply that you getting lucky and hitting some blocks in shorter than expected times means that other pools suck though. All it means is you got lucky, and you know it. It's pretty low class to go around trying to convince people that this means their current pool is bad.

my pool is better then yours. Its a p2pool!

This has not yet officially begun. I want feedback from you guys before i begin.

facebook experiment:

I will rent your facebook page to promote vertcoin.

Go to vertcoin.org and download your wallet.

Share the IB Times Article linked below on your facebook page, set to public so I can verify it without being your friend.

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/vertcoin-soaring-cryptocurrency-set-surpass-bitcoin-165058275.html

Make the first comment on your post as a receive address to receive your vertcoin.

Three people who do the above will be drawn at random to receive 300 VTC.

Everyone who shares it will receive one VTC. Allow 72 hours for me to catch up.

No new fb pages are eligible. No friend farms will be eligible, i will check each one personally and i know real people from stick figures so don't even try.

All straight up legit. First 1,000 to do the above will qualify and three of them will receive 300 bonus.

Ok feedback welcome. I dont want to go all pt barnum with the marketing but at 200 average friends on facebook that hits 200k people which beats most webiste circs.

Thoughts?

Already posted this story and completed another >> bitcoinbarbie[dot]com and twitter @BitcoinBarbie and 2 other accounts, getting positive feedback about Vertcoin. Will be launching a twitter promo campaign to promote our site but can also do something creative for Vertcoin. My girl created the website to promo and educate about Bitcoin and crypto's overall, we see the potential with Vertcoin and are ready and willing to promo it.

I can not synchronize my wallet, can someone help me?

Did you follow the instructions to add nodes in the first post of the thread? Try that if you haven't.
I do not know how to create the file. Can you help me?

Alinuxandre,

Just make a text file (in notepad if you use windows) and name it vertcoin.conf, then select all the addnode lines on the first page of this thread, and copy them.

Paste them in vertcoin.conf.

Save the file (ignore the warnings about the file extension), and place it in c:\users\YOUR-NAME\appdata\roaming\vertcoin\
synchronizing this, thanks.

Just wanted to share this awesome work by LukeMaxwell:
The logo was originally designed by khanwaltman.

I _really_ like the heart/vertcoin logo association here - I'd never noticed it before, but there's a definite resemblance. Maybe some clever graphic design people can work on some merged logo ideas that bring the two shapes together within the same circular outline of the logo in a cool way?

Beautiful!

Azure Vertcoin Pool

DDOS reisistant P2Pool Node

http://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171/

To connect to this P2Pool node simply point your miner at:

URL: stratum+tcp://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171
Username: Your vertcoin address
Password: Anything

Sample configuration

cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171 -u VbNPoxNeiNg6Bj9RwjjS4GazDbKLgUqNDP -p X

Fast facts

1. P2Pool nodes are all part of one single, big, distributed pool
2. When any p2pool worker on any node finds a block, everyone on all the nodes gets paid their share
3. There is no pool wallet, and hence no payout threshold. Payments go directly to your wallet
4. The distributed nature of p2pool resists DDoS attacks

Decentralize the hashrate!

What is the best way to hedge against falling #bitcoin? Buy vertcoin. Limited supply, new and still priced low. Fastest percentage gainer in altcoin history. #betterthanbitcoin

+1 for this. I like the hashtag - I think it should be adopted by everyone tweeting about VTC

I'm going to get back on twitter just for that.

Bter is nearly 50 bid for the first time (edit) today. Nice firming up across the cryptos and I dare say btc is gonna hold 700. Last chance to get Vert under five?

Thanks. More time for GPUs to get in the hashes. I did notice that one of the devs for Zerocoin offered on Yacointalk forum to one of the devs there to implement Zerocoin on top of Yacoin. This was December 31st. 8 days later this coin is introduced. Lo and behold the same Zerocoin dev seemed to have jumped on board with this project instead. The Yacoin devs had told him thanks, but we want to focus on the "first order of business," being the POW orphan issue.  Cheesy

Can someone tell me in layman terms how this coin is different than Yacoin? I invested in Yacoin which is now near worthless due to the uniqueness of the coin. Here comes along this one and suddenly it is straight to the moon. I have mined a few, but did miss out on the feeding frenzy that took place the first couple of days.  Sad    I read the post on January 8th and thought, oh this guy wants to make a CPU only coin, but people are telling him he has to implement GPU too. It just seemed like he was unsure of the direction he wanted to take and it is now apparent that this coin owes a lot to the guys who made cgminer work for this with GPUs and to the senior members of the forum who seem to have a lot of experience. So maybe I answered my own question and the difference is this is FRESH and has momentum to go where Yacoin failed to go. Somehow I think I am missing a big piece of the puzzle. Educate me?

The biggest difference on a layman level to yacoin is that this coin is less aggressive with how often it increases the computational difficulty of the algorithm, allowing GPUs the ability to keep up, as technical advancements progress (more attuned to Moore's Law). But still having it happen often enough to make it economically disadvantegous or at best unfeasible to develop an ASIC for the coin. While Yacoin is basically a cpu coin (they also use a slightly different hashing algorithm). This makes the coin more appealing to people that have GPUs already (they don't want them to be useless).
