The role of parents who give freedom to their children in using cellphones does not seem to be felt by those who are starting to grow up. I see that a teenager has started to be equipped with a smartphone.

What do you think about the situation above? Do you have any such situations like me before?

Actually OP, I somehow felt the feeling of having the freedom to operate under the glimpse of the internet.

I grew up in a computer shop in our town. As a young kid, I was severely exposed to pornography and games since most of the customers who opt to rent our computers watch those kinds of stuff. As a young kid who is at the peak of his curiosity, this ultimately led me to check on those stuff. Eventually, I would go and watch alone (I was really young) whenever no one is looking.

Though this may have been the case, I think I can still determine what is right and wrong. Being exposed to that kind of addiction may lead to certain addictions but it still depends on the total upbringing of one's parents. I am fortunate enough to have a single dad who taught me all the valuable life lessons that I need in order to be equipped with those skills to avoid any troubles.

Some time ago I visited my friend's house. We talked about many things because we had not seen each other for a long time. Besides us telling stories, he accompanied his son, who was already a teenager. His son is playing games on his cell phone and I got a glimpse of what games he played and he seems to be playing games he shouldn't be playing.

Can you name that game is it because those games are difficult or there is a need to purchase to play the game, when it comes to gaming, gamers are always on the look for something new and exciting games to play even if you forbid them to play those games it will eventually find a way

Quote
Then I asked my best friend how she watched her grown children. He replied that his children were able to choose what was good and bad for them and he just needed to say that playing games are okay as long as he doesn't lose track of time.

They have to back up with strong words and they have to see to it that the children are following their instructions

Quote
Then I asked again if the kids installed games they weren't supposed to play (but I didn't say the kids were playing those games). She replied that she sometimes checks her children's cell phones and asks what they are playing and that a parent should ask their child.

It's very important as long as it is not harmful parents should from time to time check what are their children are playing

Quote
Then, I also thought if this could cause symptoms of addiction to continue playing the game and later it could be accidentally, they see adult content such as pornography or gambling or others easily. The role of parents who give freedom to their children in using cellphones does not seem to be felt by those who are starting to grow up. I see that a teenager has started to be equipped with a smartphone.

That is why they should check the history of their children's browsing history to see if there are sites that don't fit their children's age, there are so many browser-based games and sites that your children might be checking out.

We are living in a technology era where everything is accessible and this has been the dilemma of many parents the key here is monitoring and always checking what your children are up to.

I think what the OP's friend doing is just the right thing, not too tight with their kids because no matter how strict parents you are you can't stop what your kids be doing all the time. At least her friend was able to looked at her kids stuff on what games they were installing or playing. I say, this is just normal to let your kids explore what curiosity hinder their minds and tell what's bad and good thing for them.

Be a realistic or a good parents and not a controlling one because you are just teaching your kids how to do bad things involuntarily.

Parents should monitor the children. Nowadays children were more advanced than the parents, and this makes them keep unwanted games hidden from the parents. When a smartphone reaches his children, that is the point where the kid goes away/out from the parents control. As said in the OP there were games in which players can buy more equipments to make themselves powerful at certain cost. In one such incident 10 year old kid have used $10k from his parents bank card without their knowledge.

That relates to the control of parents itself to their children i whatever condition.
moreover this is era of advanced texhnology and our kids are familiar enough with this. Although we cannot watch them 24 hours. But at keast we can control what they doing and also browsing.
Moreover our children are playing games and there must be gambling sites that have promotions during the card is urgently needed.

Sometimes you need to show them what things they need to avoid nor take some consideration to take more than twice and you don't know your friend is doing the right thing to educate his child upon things that might give them any risk upon growing. I guess you need to let them do what they want since at the end of the day parents have their own style one how they can build their childs character.
Parenting does really have a big role on developing their kids which it could really be helpful on his future decisions specially if he do able to encounter those things then he do know on what to do.

Its not bad to have some few tries but make sure that they wont really be involving much with gambling and as a parent then its our responsibility on making them learn and give out advises since
we already have the experience and its just right to share up that main idea not only to our kids but also into our grandchildren as well or other relatives or whatsoever.

He’a already a teenager and I wonder what kind of games he’s playing? Is it about gambling games or just a normal online games where most of the Children already knows how to play?

Anyway, we can’t control or supervised are children all the time and we should accept that. We can guide them on telling what’s not ok and what’s ok, and trust them by doing this you can really tell if you’re Children is obeying you or not at all. Well, we all have different style on handling Children and as a parent its not easy at all, if its about gambling then the parent should really tell their children about the possible negative effect of that games to them.

Those are things that you normally never have 100% control over. You can take care to keep them away from a bad environment. But the problem is that in a clean and good environment there are also many people who gamble. If a child is genetically prone to addiction, there is a chance that sooner or later they will come into contact with gambling. Such a thing is unavoidable. And when they are 18+, many children no longer live at home, then the overview is completely gone, plus their own independence and their own bank account.

You can't keep an eye on your children all the time, the best thing to do is to educate them on the risk of what they are doing. Though they are still you, if you educate them, they'll mature easily and they would know what is bad or good or if they do gambling, at least they will know how to gamble responsibly.

In the current world now, everything is already online, it's hard to keep your children risk-free if, in the first place you don't give time in educating them because, in the end, they still make their own decision as they are so adventurous, they like to explore.
^ This definitely right but of course still parent guidance was still there, don't let your children use the mobile phone for over 12 hours consistently use and there should be a limit of time using of mobile phone and we should guide and educate them on what is bad or good. We are now on a high technology which is using internet and mobile phone is the way to learn which makes them has an advantage. For me, it would be fine to play games online but of course at the right time when it is free time.

educating them is the key as we will not have our eyes on them 24/7, they will always encounter something new without our presence and they will be curious about it. if they have basic rules to comply, like not spending money with your games or they know that they need to inform you if they need to spend money with their games, they have somehow limitations on where to go about their games. it is not bad for them to let them play once in a while. but they should have limitations and you as a parent, should instill such limitations.

Kids nowadays are spending much of their time using their phones and internet, they are really prone to anything available online and that’s why its advisable to supervise them as much as possible and restrict them from using phones most probably you can limit their time online. If those kids expose to gambling site, games that is meant for adult most probably they can bring this when they grew up and it can really affect them in the future.

...

I don't think this is a wise choice for their future.
this is a serious mistake because a child has not the same experience and knowledge of an adult.
they have not the same experience in judge fact of the life and can follow bad habits.
moreover a parent should check what child are doing... it's full of fake marketing / fake news / etc etc that you cannot leave them without control... with gambling they have not experience to understand RTP, statistics about betting, risk to get addicted ...

My personal thinking about that the parents must supervising what there kids do on the internet and strictly limit them, (that's also when we see all the dangers we adults can encounter there..)
Especially underaged that strictly shouldn't use smartphones and be allowed to do just some tasks under the strict supervision of the parents .

There is been numerous solutions for protecting kids on internet, starting from DNS setting that block all NSFW contents and dangerous or not approved places, to complete softwares that allow also tracking made by security firms as antivirus companies etc.

So I think that the phenomen is primarily serious negligence from the parents !

I think each case is unique. When parents identify their children are responsible and won't fall for addictions, bad behaviours or compulsive purchasings it's ok to give them freedom, because it will actually help them to develop even more self-confidence and responsability for their adulthood. But you can't be too careful when children are impulsive. In this case parents must be more attentive on what their children are doing on the internet.

Every parent's primary concern is the safety and well-being of their children. With the growth of the Internet and mobile technologies, there has been a huge increase in the number of risks for our children and teens online. Both parents and children should do their best to reduce their exposure to online risks. Although Internet filters can help with child safety, I believe that education can offer a greater safety net for children and teens. Parents should work with their children to discuss the potential risks and how to protect themselves online. More importantly, they must take active steps to ensure that their children understand and have the knowledge needed to make the right decisions online.

Well, it might not be giving out 100% assurance for them on not to play or dealing with other things since we arent there most of the time but at least we have taught them about the right stuff
and more likely they would really be putting it up into their minds and make out some wise decision.
Children will learn how to install games on the phone and we know most games even though the games are not gambling games that children shouldn't play but when a phone connected to Internet then that game will show different ads and one thing I noticed is that sometimes the ads shows card games like card games (like tong its common in Philippines) that will lead children starting to gamble when they made contact with other children who already experienced gambling.
Agree into this one which i do really able to observe it out that inappropriate ads would really be shown on some kid games which there is really a chance or tendency that they would be clicking it out which would really result into possible engangement.

Curiosity is really one of the things that one pushes to test it out but if you do able to tell your kids while they are young then it does really affect them on how to make out some decisions.
Yes, they might able to engage but they are aware of the things that you have told earlier.

From here, I then asked myself, is that what we should do for our children, giving them the freedom to install whatever they want. Then there is another thing that sticks in my mind: if they want to buy something in the game because this type of game allows players to get rare items at low prices. They can ask for the money from their parents to buy that item.

Then, I also thought if this could cause symptoms of addiction to continue playing the game and later it could be accidentally, they see adult content such as pornography or gambling or others easily. The role of parents who give freedom to their children in using cellphones does not seem to be felt by those who are starting to grow up. Unfortunately since the advent of the internet it has spawned many good and also many bad things in life. It gives people a huge blessing in terms of almost infinite knowledge that is transferable via a device even as small as a phone or watch. Yet it also allows companies in "dangerous" industries such as alcohol/tobacco/gambling to have a much larger reach and be able to more covertly advertise to audiences in a way that it can be hard for regulators to catch. Young and developing minds are extremely impressionable, even 21 year olds can still be immature in many respects, so they are much more influenced in the age of instant gratification. It can even start at a stage beyond gambling, with things like micro transactions and loot boxes creating trigger points in the brain which can fuel later traits around addiction. It's an extremely difficult balance to find, but parents play a large responsibility and they often do not step up to the mark, or don't have the technology know how to do so effectively.

About the story told above speficially, i have the perception your best friend isn't too concerned about what his/her children are doing on the cellphone, because he/she probably trust them and there haven't been any issues involving apps, gambling, pornography or undesired purchases before. Anyway, from times to times it's important to check what they are doing.
