I have to admit that I hardly ever gamble, and when I do it is usually national lottery or sports (football). The motives to do so are, on one hand, entertainment and, on the other hand, the little hope you feel until the draw takes place.

^These should be gamblers' motives why they gamble, it is given priority to entertainment over making money which is now everyone's mindset, they gamble because of making money or the worst part is that gambling the made because of a way of living. If everyone's motives are like this, there are no gambling addicts right now, there is no crime made because of gambling. That is why we are very lucky here because we know already how to avoid possible addictions. Gambling is supposed to be for fun and nothing else, we should not expect any in gambling when it comes to financial, set amount of money that you can afford to lose is always a reminder here.

I agree with you, you cannot make the mistake of thinking that you can constantly earn money with games of chance, for example in that break that all teams had because of the world cup games when the world cup games ended and the games resumed from the local leagues what you can see was a disaster because all the big teams lost points in the games against small teams, this just shows how the results of the games are unpredictable, so there is no way for people to think that they will have consistent profits with games of chance

I particularly had a lot of losses after the world cup ended and the local leagues resumed the games, the results were too unpredictable, whereas before the world cup the results were predictable in a way, and see that even the cup games the world the results were very unpredictable

That is the way things should be but it is lamentable this is not the case, despite the fact that you can find a lot of information online about the impossibility of making money while you gamble and how you should only gamble to get some fun, there are many people out there that think gambling can give them profits just because they wish this is the case, then they lose their money and instead of facing the reality of the situation they claim they were cheated or they keep gambling until they run out of money and become addicted to it.

That the bad aftereffects of being too much engaged with gambling, that said mentality are occupying the mindset of those addicted gamblers, they will keep trying thinking that they will somehow recover those amounts that they've lost from the house, but the moment that they manage to win, they will push for more and try to win a much bigger amount.

The next thing they know, they already lose everything back and they will find someone to blame. Most of the time, they will call it a cheat, but they will just repeat it over and over.

We know that most gamblers rely on luck to win big money. Money is the main motive of all gamblers. Others gamble so they can share with others if they get lucky,

Are you trying to say that they is a way for gamblers to share their luck? How on earth is that possible?
I can't even begin to think of how something like that can be done. Or maybe what you meant was that gamblers share their winnings after the end of the game but if it's the other way around I don't think that's possible.

Quote
For me, I gamble to add something to my savings using my extra money,  we know that the longer we play, the more we will lose. So if we win, we can go out to be safe, but if we lose, it doesn't hurt too much.😁

A good gambler should know when to leave the table and walk away and also when to continue playing. If a gambler should allow greed to take over it is certain that s/he is going end the game having nothing left. So you should learn the art of calling it a quit even when you're losing because that will definitely save you from some trouble.

What about you guys? Do you have any addiction to gambling? What drives you to gamble? Is it the long shot of having a big profit coming in or is gambling simply a way of spending time for you?
Gambling is a challenging activity for me, for that I really like to face this challenge, we realize that there are two worlds of gambling, there are only two factors, nothing more, (1). Win and (2). Gone, nothing more, but why do people also want to do that, because it is caused by many factors someone wants to be involved in gambling, one factor as I said.

Maybe, for me gambling is one thing that makes me happy and at the same time a hobby for me, where in gambling like football and boxing there are teams and people/boxing that I idolize, after all, sport is one of my hobbies in everyday life, addiction, maybe I haven't gotten there yet, because I can still control myself in betting, even though there are things in betting that make me happy, if I want to do it of course I do it, but if not I don't want to do it, self control is still inherent in me.

Why do you think people usually gamble in a non-healthy way?

It is maybe because they want to earn a lot fast? I mean, is it a matter of time? or maybe they gamble this way because they don't believe in their ability to earn that money by other means?

Sometimes I think that they do it in order to parade around their acquaintances (I have a relative who fits there), so I think that there are several factors that could lead to gambling addiction. Personally, I would try to know and control these motives first, instead of only the addiction itself. I don't know if the OP was aware when he created it, but this thread is brilliant.

In short, other gamblers gamble because they think that this can be a shortcut to their sudden wealth in their lives. This is if with their small capital they can grow or even win the jackpot because of luck, just like the lottery where out of millions of lottery bettors, only one can get the jackpot.

Sometimes I just end up gambling because I get tricked by a best friend of mine who always wins gambling, so I also end up depositing money without my plan to gamble because I think I might get lucky like him.

That's how it should be but I don't think it's possible for everyone since many gamblers are not playing solely to entertain themselves. The profit to win huge is probably the main reason why many gamblers are attracted to gamble their money even they can't afford to lose it and because of this it can lead to addiction for chasing the losses or the eagerness to achieve the goal of winning huge. So when the gambler started playing with a motive to win and didn't think of the consequences incase his expectation didn't happened then it can cause serious problem.

-   We know whether you are a gambler or not, when you enter a casino the only reason why you gamble is "Money" even if you say we are just having fun.

Because we know that as a gambler we still think about how we can get the jackpot in the game we choose on a gambling platform. This is the only reason why we gamble, there is no other deep reason in my opinion.

A whole lot of people bets on the 2022 WorldCup, though this world cup was not good enough for gamblers I heard some suffer big losses due to underdogs winning the matches against big teams. I don't know how much you have loses in Japan vs Germany match or Spain vs Japan match or even Argentina vs Saudi match. Argentina was 36 matches unbeaten before facing Saudi, no one dared to bet on Saudi to win the match.
I lost a bet on the first match between Argentina and Saudi Arabia.  Because in the match something really incredible happened which no one could have predicted and especially Argentine fans like me couldn't accept it. But it is normal to not always win in betting because a gambler can never win all his bets so sometimes one has to accept the loss with a smile.
That first match between Argentina and Saudi was the reason for many gamblers lost their money. The match was so one sided that before the first goal of Saudi no one predicted that Saudi could win the game or even draw it. Like many others I was also a victim of that match  Grin also I am a fan of Argentina. After that match I don't bet on any Argentina games, because I can't take double pressure from one game.
Many gamblers have really lost their bets through this match.  And everyone lost a large amount of bets that day. And those who mistakenly bet on the Saudis that day got a huge return with a very small amount, it was a stroke of luck. It is normal that things like this happen in football games.  But this is rarely seen. While most people lose their bets in such events, some gamblers win huge amounts from these events

I know people who placed stupid bets after losing for a while, they just bet out of rage. Take it as a match yourself while playing the chance is 50-50. So why get emotional after losing a bet or two? Just like real sports it is fun to play, and enjoy both winning and losing.
I think it's normal for us to get emotional after losing one or two bets because we feel that the results of the analysis we did were good and have a chance to win, but it turns out that the match was really beyond our expectations and caused us to lose. This has often happened to many gamblers and we should be able to learn from it and try not to get emotional.

For me getting emotional in gambling is a trap created by our rage and ego. We can not predict a game perfectly no matter how hard we work to predict the match. I used to get sentimental back in the day. But now I can control myself not to get emotional.
And because it is emotion and anger that will trigger us to try to recover the losses we have experienced, we forget that gambling is just entertainment that will not always give you victory. You have to keep trying not to get provoked by his emotions so that you can play gambling calmly even though you have lost many times and it would be better if you quit the game and leave it. Either way, you can come back to the casino another day and, with peace of mind, gamble again and who knows, you might end up winning streak later.

I do not know about you guys, but I gamble because I like it and because it is a hobby as well as an addiction. I'm good with myself, as I already admitted to having an addiction but tried to find and apply techniques to avoid getting off track and spending all of my money on gambling. It's quite easy for me to control my gambling anxiety as I already follow strict rules that help me stay on the line.

What about you guys? Do you have any addiction to gambling? What drives you to gamble? Is it the long shot of having a big profit coming in or is gambling simply a way of spending time for you?
Money is the first one. That i have small change to win large amount of money with pocket money. But that's not everything. Games i play need to be rewarding in some way. Crappy craphics and poor user interface would drive me away even if there were higher changes for me to win. I am illogical that way. And games need to be interesting. Either it's betting sports that i can watch live, or complex, beautiful, social, etc. Something i can look forward to spend time with.

Gambling activities will not just disappear even if you already have a job, but a full day's work routine can minimize or reduce gambling activities.
I have a steady job and what I feel is that my gambling activities can be reduced because of the time that has to be shared, especially during breaks after coming home from work and also other activities besides work including working in this forum. So I have to put my needs first, and if I have some free time and also have the urge to gamble, I do it. But because what I do is so important, I limit my gambling time and also become very infrequent.
at first it was difficult, but over time because of responsibility I got used to it and gambling activities became less.
The factor of responsibility at the main job has limited gambling activities but that's on the bright side because you avoid gambling addiction, gambling activities can still be carried out in your free time and especially holidays, if you are a football fan then you can determine bets on your favorite team without disturbing your work , so gambling can still be enjoyed at any time without taking all day to gamble.

I can remember vividly some times back that I've been always busy at work and getting home very tired not to even have time for gambling at all because am too occupied, yet at the course of this, i still find a means to gamble even at the midnight because it's what I'd loved to do, sometimes even while on a short break  then i find a solem place to gamble using my mobile without anyone knowing, the moment am less busy i begin to feel been idle then i realized the usuals which is gambling.

I have to admit that I hardly ever gamble, and when I do it is usually national lottery or sports (football). The motives to do so are, on one hand, entertainment and, on the other hand, the little hope you feel until the draw takes place.

It's like most of us here gamble for fun. Only a few are ever serious of doing this as their money-making scheme, and perhaps most of them are on the card games and sports betting. In these games, you have the capability to change some factors that may affect your game and convert it to a win. Whereas in casino games, you just have to rely on RNGesus to bless you and give you the win that you're looking for.

I guess that holding cryptocurrencies is another way of gambling. You don't lose until you sell, so you don't have to place new bets, like every day is a lottery somehow for us. I don't know what would I do if cryptos didn't exist, or stop existing. The excitement of holding maintained over time which involves that, maybe, one day, you'll be able to quit your mortgage, or even retire early, is addictive. At least to me.

In itself it can be considered a gamble, but there's not much fun involved in it anyway. You just buy and keep it until it appreciates in value. There's no interactivity in buying and hodling, unless you're actively trading these crypto to cash and vice-versa. And yes, it's kinda like the lottery that you will win big one day after buying each ticket—in this case those small coins that you buy over time.

For the sake of hobby and fun, it's ok. But remember, greed is a curse.
So don't expect or crave too much. Just play with the safest limit possible.
However, it depends upon your luck as well. Good Luck.

Gambling addiction is way above greed because if one is greedy he/she will not want to lose money but same can not be said with addiction since an addict can play with their last card and even go as far as to borrow just to feed their addiction.
It is natural that when a gambler gambles he tries to win whether he is addicted or not. If he loses, he will lose his money, but knowing that, he tries because he knows that if he wins, he will get a return.

All of us who gamble can realize why we gamble. Most gamblers will agree with me that focused on gambling especially in case of sports betting when a favorite series or franchise league starts. There will be winning and losing in betting. Gambling is a form of entertainment that should be realized. Nowadays it is a widely known platform for entertainment. The real gamblers are those who can gamble without any disappointment even if they lose and these gamblers do not consider making money as the main purpose.

There are several possible outcomes for the response. Many will claim that the kick and adrenaline are to blame. In the end, you want to win money, so I believe that the answer is always financial. What could be better than experiencing the thrill of winning money while working from home on your computer? Therefore, instead of earning money, it is winning it. Even though many gamblers view gambling as job, you can never lose money at work. Gambling, however, does. Of course, there may be additional motivations if you spend the evening in a casino. But you never play online poker for fun; it's always a matter of finances.

What he says is interesting, I did not see playing poker as if it were finance but as fun, but he is right that there are games that we should take more seriously, luck is not much given, there are things that can be controlled in the game. poker game, you can play with what the players are there, the emotions, the looks, only those things cannot be observed when playing behind a computer, I like it more when in poker games they have a chat interactive and you can talk about things, or see what some are doing when there are games that involve a lot of money.
Poker can lend itself to many things and among those also to learn strategies that are very good economists, you learn to have and manage money that can sometimes be very high.
