I think every coin has the same potential. The important thing that determines the success of coin is the potential for development as well as the transition from digital technology to the real technology of life.
With the downfall of the crypto market, buying coins is a good option as those quality coins has been undervalued. I prefer to invest on those currency that belongs to top 10 in the coinmraketcap as those can easily recover once the market returns to green.
I think that it's how strong and how big the growth of price will be in the future, it may matter how much the price of a coin has dropped since the last ATH to now. The greater the decrease, the higher the increase may be.
For the best coins to buy now is the bitcoin and etherium , this two coins have the biggest potential to gain more profits when their value goes high. And this two coins are for a long term investments and have long term gaining of profits. Now that this two coins is in dip its best to buy and hold and wait for their value to goes high again to gain enough profits.
It is safer to stick to top ranked coins to buy the dip in this weak market. Those are more likely to bounce back to old highs than any one-time hype wonders.

True to conditions like this it is indeed difficult to determine what coins are the best to buy but if I think personally I will choose ethereum even though at this time the price drops

Currently the developments in the altcoin I think are the most significant are ripple and stellar, these two coins are being adapted by many parties, the potential for more profits at the end of the year or early next year
Yes these coins will play a vital role in many a huge money for the investors in the future if they will hold them for a few years. Along with that if they have some other money then they have to invest also in other top 50 coins. In this way they will diversify their investment to secure from any lose. 
There are too many coins you can choose as you can see that every coin is in the lower price and you can buy any coins. The problem is you need to determine how much money you want to use to buy the coins and sometimes, we make a mistake to choose the coin because we can become greed to expecting the price will increase more than 4x than the last lower price. My advice is you can buy bitcoin only if you don't know anything about the altcoin and as long as you can get the lowest price, you are safe, and you can hold it and use it for a long-term investment.
Investing is a very good idea into different coins but before that, we need to find their active developments which will help to increase the price of a coin in the market. Of course, there are many coins in the market which don't have active developments so be careful with those coins.
Currently I buy coins such as Coinvest, Refereum, Mainframe, Iotex. I think these coins have good prospects given their technology.
