I normally time it for a few days if it will consistently shoot up and then I will buy more but if it drops ones , I will sell to make profit.

Yes that is a good method that almost all of us uses/do because it works but not necesarilly everytime so it's your

own choice if you wll try it or not. Since bitcoin price today keeps increasing then now is a good time to sell it and

at some point it will decrease again probably when holiday ends then it is the time again to buy more.

Whenever the price increases a number of people often say that the price will go down again but I do not believe on it and I still keep my coins with me and hope for a better future and a further increase in the coming future so I do not sell them all and remain normal but only sometimes I use or sell some of them.
yeaa common people will keep being pessimistic in bitcoin .
but not with the real bitcoin miner/holder who have a strong believe in bitcoin as they know the real facts.
bitcoin will keep increasing as time goes by, and once the price shoots up some people will let it to sell all the coin and leaving but some people will keep holding till they think urgently needed or even will never ever sell the coins!
At that time keep holding is necessary for the reason that if everyone start to sell their coins then the supply will be increased much higher and the demand will be lowered down and then once again the good time will finish by decreasing the value. So the intelligent people do not sell at that time but they start to buy more bitcoins.
The price of any asset never stays all time high as market forces would always give room for market peaks and troughs without necessarily altering the overall market trend. For experienced traders, once a market trend is confirmed, their quest turns to hunting for market troughs, so to buy at cheaper rates again.

today is one of the cases of this happening in real time. right now as i am typing this price is $867 on bitfinex and it has shot up in less than a day. now the question is what is everyone doing in this case?

i am personally looking for a top to sell some coins and wait for a bottom to buy back more. probably on 880ish price. but i have to wait and see.

With the current price movement, it's a good time to sell and wait for few days if there is a small drop and buy back. Too bad I can't do that, I only have few satoshis now and planning to sell it this Christmas to fund my project. So I can't buy back after this price increase.

One more good thing to do during this time is if you have something to be done and internet and you want to hire someone to do it, you price the reward in dollar and use  your bitcoin to pay them.  Smiley

Yes bitcoin's price is still increasing up to $800 and i think don't all of our bitcoins be sold out,
Should there are some bitcoins that be saved for long time.
But everything depend on the strategy of trading, personality i just save some little bitcoin from profit trading altcoins.

Bitcoin- in bullish time
December 22, 2016, 03:40:49 AM
When the bitcoin rises up, I sell the partial part of my bitcoins and save that money and wait for the price to go back down and then after the price dip down. I will use my profits from the bitcoins that i sold to buy a lot of cheaper bitcoins then i will just wait again for the price to rises up then i will do the cycle again. Sometimes, I make wrong decision but it still alright because i earn more positive rather than negative profit.

Hi,

I'd like to know what do you think is a good strategy when BTC price shoots up and you feel it's going to come down again.
- hold on to your Bitcoin?
- Sell it for USD hoping to buy it again cheaper?
- Sell it for other crypto (in this case which would you choose)?

There's  no safe investment really, try to get back your early investment and roll the remaining into profit,Bitcoin is now rising, you can sell some of it,if you bought it at $400 to $600 price range and hold some of it for the $1000 price, that is if you want to be in a safe side, but if you trust the future of bitcoin, you can hold it as long as you are comfortable.

what the price is, is not important at all. in other words it doesn't matter if price is $10 or $1000 you should not make buy/sell decisions only based on how much bitcoin is worth unless you need the money.

if you want to sell then look how that price was reached. if it was a shoot up like what OP is asking it is a good chance to sell and buy back at the bottom. for example if price goes to $1000 slowly and over a 6+ months then you should not sell.

If the price touches $900-$1000, it would be nice to buy some more Bitcoins and hold them. But if its goes directly more than $1500-$2000, which is quite unnatural, I would sell some of my Bitcoins and watch over the price for few days to take some more actions.
Yeah, it would be interesting to see Bitcoin going up in price to such levels, but not in a quick pump, because a more gradual and stable price increase allows Bitcoin to rise with greater strength, with lower risks of big dumps. At least so far, I think Bitcoin is doing very well in the market.

When the bitcoin shoots up I will sell some bitcoins and hold the most to make even more money with it, I think that is the best option for now.

If it shoots up, I will sell some of my asset (but it's hard to catch the "right" timing) as a quick jump-up in price is a very likely sign of a bubble and an overbought market.  As long as it climbs slowly as it does now, I will hold all my coins.  But always have an eye on the news.

If something big happens and bad news are spread in major papers and additionally something like the 2013 Chinese bank ban you can watch the price dropping again. Maybe not so fast or so hard like the last time.  But it can happen.

I would never trade my coins for altcoins in the longrun.  Short term trading: sure, but not converting to altcoin for mid- or long-term.  That market is too unstable in my opinion.
