One year is a very long time to hold any crypto, the only crypto I have been holding since a year ago are Bitcoins, all other coins I have own, has been traded as soon as my trade made it sale order, or I gave up and sold before I lost too much of the altcoions BTC value.
Right now I'm around 80 to 90% into bitcoins.

For me, 1 year of investment is good if you buy Bitcoin or ethereum. Both have proven it's ATH and now that it's price is cheaper, then buying either of the two is a good option.

If you dont want to buy some altcoins right now maybe take a break and wait for them to drop for their price and buy lot of altcoins but now as you can see you can't wait for 1year to buy them cheaply because it depends in the market if they gonna pump for this year.
I think most altcoins has already dropped low and would not drop any further, I mean ones that are already old in the market, so I am not so sure it is advisable for him to wait any longer because anytime soon, majority of them will experience bull run and like you said, it looks like there will be lots of pump this year in the market.Most altcoins that he can wait to see their price bottom should be all these new coins that are just entering the market and might have to wait a very long time to really get their bottom price because the moment majority of them enter exchanges, they get pump and might be too late for him to buy then.

I think there are so many choices for cryptocurrency, and each person must think of coins that are in the top 10 coinmarketcap, because I think that is a coin that has great potential. but, we all have choices. I myself held a few coins outside of it. but the most important is bitcoin, because it has the most functions with little risk.
Its a good idea to invest thousand dollar on crypto coin .Its a long time you will get back its so important to think wisely which coin will you buy .I think you can invest your amount with few different coin .I suggest you to buy btc first then you can invest top few altcoin .If you get chance to check you wallet within this time it will be better cause you always find few bearish movement with a huge uptrend .However though its so tough to say the movement of market but i hope you will get a good profit .So excited to know which coin you will buy and how much you can get profit after a year 
I advise you to buy some ethereum, ethereum remains one of the best investment choices, the community and their development are quite rapid, or you can choose several assets that are in the top 20 coinmarketcap.
I think choosing several low price coins from the top 50 coins will be a better idea than investing in Ethereum only! Because it is always a good idea for me to put money in several boxed instead of one! If the ETH price grows well that's mean the crypto market will be well pumped so all potential coin's price will be increased too!
Yes, you are right we should always split our money into other different potential coins in the market because investing in one thing will lead to losing once the price starts decreasing. It is good to choose in the top 50 coins in the market because now those coins prices are very cheap in the market due to huge fluctuation in the market.

From what I have observed, I think IEO projects are very much sought after by investors. For example, Fetch has x4 after completing IEO, BTT has x8-x10, TOP has x20 after completing IEO. All of those potential projects were supported by two major exchanges, BNB and Huobi. It's quite great for you to invest now.
In 2017 TRX and BNB was offer amazing return more than 50 times just in 2 month, and with more professional of the development of the project, both will have potential to raise multiple times again. So one of the good coin to choose is TRX and BNB, other one can be ONT, XRP.
As i see crypto coins getting pumping them right now and its good to buy and hold for 1year but it is hard to control if you can't handle it daily to avoid lossing it if the price of your coin is dropping out.
It's very simple, if you cannot play in short term, go with long term. You won't worry the price volatility on a daily basis if you will lock in your belief in long term, this is not vital for us since price is still volatile.

Bitcoin is always my go to coin if i want to invest something in this market and if you have the patience to wait a couple of years then you will get the most return than any form of investment when the market starts its bull run, like any other financial market we cannot predict when the bull market starts, but it is around the corner after almost a year and half of bleeding and now the market is showing signs of recovery and it will end up in a profit after one year if you are investing now.

The risk is obvious but you do not make anything if you do not take the risk. I would suggest you choose any of the coin among Bitcoin, ETH or Litecoin.
Putting money in the bank was a way to save value which was also the reason why we also have stable coin in crypto sphere. But, were never a nice to make money and if the banks didn't fail us we might not have what we call crypto currency and if we have it will issue or implemented by the banks not the communities.
Aside that, the best coin of all time to invest in will always be Bitcoin and ETH but there are some project which had good concept and doing pretty well in the market most people didn't notice it. An example is FCT.
