If Ethereum can replace Bitcoin, this is a new turning point in this crypto market, if the world accepts or all agrees to this alternative, the new era of a crypto like the ETH has a breakthrough. On the other hand, to replace Bitcoin my personal view is very difficult because the birth of Bitcoin that people have accepted is extremely difficult. Maybe in the future it may happen, but who knows what the future will be.

I fully agree that ethereum can replaced bitcoin someday in case no new technology deliver by bitcoin it self, because eth have platform called dApps. However i just think replace bitcoin by merketcap is really possible, but replace bitcoin price is not possible. There will be so many rich people if that happen

Those things you have mentioned are fact but nothing beats bitcoin as the best store of value.
And for ethereum to be able to replace bitcoin someday it needs huge gain for its market cap but I doubt this is will ever happen. I'm an ethereum holder though.

That thought is definitely difficult to achieve, ethereum replacing bitcoin in the future. The development of ethereum is quite slow these days if Iay say and there's no significant improvements. It will be a great competition though seeing ethereum strive to replace bitcoin
The scheduled development for ethereum is planned for January 2020. There is lot of news stating that there is lag in the development as well the ethereum team has took some bad decisions. Maybe from the technical perspective there is lot of mistakes with the ethereum team, but it is the one that has gained importance after bitcoin and stood strong in the market giving competence to bitcoin. Now or then ethereum isn't gonna replace now or in the near future.

There is every possibility that Ethereum or any other altcoin could replace bitcoin someday. But in reality, bitcoin is the first known cryptocurrency that is well recognized and widely accepted. I would like to say that the chance(s) of any other alt replacing is kind of slim.

Ethereum, being the world's second largest cryptocurrency by market cap, has all the potential of replacing Bitcoin in the future. It's more than just a cryptocurrency, being a platform for the development and execution of smart contracts (aka dApps). With ETH, it's possible to launch alternative cryptocurrencies without the need to start a Blockchain from scratch. It's also possible to use the ETH blockchain for other purposes such as voting, proof of identity, verification of documents, and more. In contrast, Bitcoin's only use is for finance where it cannot be implemented in other areas by its own.

Given all of the benefits Ethereum provides on top of Bitcoin, it makes me wonder whenever it'll be able to replace the pioneer cryptocurrency within the future? As long as, Ethereum keeps progressing in development and mainstream acceptance, it'll be much closer to Bitcoin every step of the way. What are your thoughts? Huh

At this point of time, it's far fetched, let's do an analysis 24-hour hour volume is not even half, we have a very huge gap in the market cap between Bitcoin and Ethereum, let's admit it Ethereum has done a lot in the industry it makes things easy for companies to create their token and launch their ICO.

If Ethereum will soon replace or become a threat they should move forward and inch their way but Bitcoin dominance is increasing let's should be happy about this because it could only mean Cryptocurrency is gaining a lot of trust and adoption, once Bitcoin is fully adopted then we can talk of other coins that could challenge Bitcoin, and it could not even be Ethereum.

It is difficult to imagine replacing Bitcoin with any coin, but in the world of the crypto industry, everything is possible, and if this happens, I think it will be interesting to look at the market in such conditions.

I think, Ethereum will never replace Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the first public blockchain and the starter of Crypto currency. This is the small reason, But there are , many technical reason, who have proved that bitcoin is more superior the Ethereum.

Ethereum is the best time that ever happened to the crypto industry, although it has lost it's potential. We have different projects popping up every now and then which offer similar utility that the Ethereum blockchain can boost off and most of these projects are doing quite well with innovation that give Ethereum a run for its position as the second most traded coin. Ethereum doesn't have the community backing to overthrown Bitcoin although its user case is far superior to that of bitcoin (that's Ethereum offer more to the table than bitcoin does).

I was once a fan of ethereum and always thought someday (due to all you said in your OP & even more reasons) ethereum will take its rightful place at the top of the food chain but with the recent development, i doubt ethereum will even retain its spot (second most traded coin by market cap) in 2-5years time. Ethereum has lost every atom of hype it once have and soon will be replace by other projects. Libra, EOS, XRP is one of those projects to watch out for (although not a fan either). The altcoin market is mostly influenced by hype and once your project loosing that, it get overshadow by other similar project or far superior projects.

Ethereum replacing Bitcoin is more precisely impossible.
So, I don't want to imagine anything related to this, however the development of ethereum is definitely Bitcoin will remain the main cryptocurrency.
the problem is that Ethereum has not been developing technologically now and therefore we cannot talk about some kind of its movement. I am worried that Ethereum can lose its position and disappear from the top 10

Your points and analysis are true, never forget that other projects are in competition with ethereum already. EOS, Quarkchain, Blockmason Blink and others, still ETH stands out. Nevertheless, BTC is more reasonable and secured as a store of value over time.  EtH can't replace bitcoin any-day.

I used to think like you when I believe that ETH and other altcoins will be the future of blockchain instead of BTC when the ICO fever happens in 2017. Well, Everyone knows what happens later  Roll Eyes

I understand the future of every project in the cryptocurrency space is uncertain and ethereum could grow to be very great, but it would be very difficult for ethereum to replace bitcoin. Bitcoin holds several features which makes it a better store of value. Ethereum by its nature is meant to be utilized as gas for sending tokens and execution of contracts that explains why the maximum supply is undefined.

No, Ethereum cannot replace Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the first public blockchain, it is the foundation, and it is designed to solve one problem - providing value in the cryptocurrency world.
And Ethereum is an application blockchain designed to solve a wide range of tasks. As we see, they have different paths and different purposes, so they will exist together.

I only thought that if ethereum replaces bitcoin someday, it will change a whole cryptocurrency position and there will be a new placement for the new coins because, in that time, ethereum will be the number one in the market. But I don't think that ethereum can easily replace bitcoin, especially if people still confidence to use bitcoin as their main investment. It is hard to compete with bitcoin, especially if we see the price for bitcoin and ethereum and without having a huge supports from the people, ethereum will always behind bitcoin.

I wont say its impossible but if its going to be ever possible for ETH to take over BTC then Big whales sell off all btc and move to ETH and ETH must find way to have the highest Volume i think thats why BTC is the king,if the strong community backing BTC up turns to ETH then BTC will lose its crown but all these seem impossible to achieve by ETH

Btc is transactions based technology and Eth is smart contract based technology both are two different verticals so both the coins grow individually

Ethereum is supposed to be a utility token. It has larger numbers in circulation than bitcoin would ever be and it's total supply is still not fixed.
It could replace bitcoin to get the number one position by total market cap considering it's supply and demand but it would not bitcoin for it's nature is bitcoin is a rare speculative coin.
