I myself prefer Eth because Eth has the potential to increase in the coming year in other Altcoin appeal.
Im thingking what is the best alcoin to buy and give good profit before the year end?
Most likely its XLM, NEO, XMR. Why? Research yourself.

I can tell you the coins which i am holding it. I am holding ICN, PLBT, TIME, VSL and ICOB. This are coins which have good projects but as the market in correction mode to altcoin due to bitcoin price increase if you buy then you have to hold for longer period like minimum six months.
This time almost all altcoin are at lower price and i think we have good chance to buy good reputed coins and after some wait they will go up and there are maximum chances are there to earn good from it. because almost all these coins will go up soon.
I would recommend Ethereum, possibly Waves, to any user. Very good coin, which develops well and in the future will mean a lot. The only drawback is that they are quite expensive now, but there are no profits without investment.

I suggest you to research about coins and check their market status before invest in any altcoins. Nowadays, Ethereum is the best altcoin to buy. It has high price like Bitcoin. I belive it will give good profit before the year end.

I think it's better to invest in higher-end currencies Ethereum, Dash, Monero, Litecoin or risk and invest in shitkoin 
Eth is good and also has a very high value as of the moment. Although, I can see a great potential in monero, Deeponion and Neo. I'm not yet sure about waves, tho. I'm still keeping an eye on other altcoin as of the moment.
Look at trig, nxt, rlc, etc, waves, dcr, storj, OMG, fat, stratis.

Keep trust in ethereum. They have smart contracts that are very useable. And for others I might side with ltc and monero
Well i believe in 2 altcoins: Nem & DeepOnion
1. Nem has huge potential and when catapult is released we will see a huge bump in price. Also Nem is just starting to promote itself, so im eager to see how it will do in the future!
2. DeepOnion. I found out about DeepOnion recently, and i'm amazed by the huge community, both in thr ANN thread but also on the official DeepOnion forum. Also, the Tech behind DeepOnion could make it usefull on the DarkWeb/blackmarket/whatevz. If that happends, we will see a huge price increase

I really recommend you to not listen to others, if the subject is investment. Please search all of the details about the project, if its logical for you, you can invest. When the price is going down, the responsibility is yours, but first step is investigation, not suggestion by the others.
Any ideas about XLM? Short term (1-2 months) and long (2-5 years)?
For sure a good long term hold...IBM partnership so lets see...i guess one big problem of xlm is the undistributed amount of coins and also the total amount. But i also hold some for long term.
