There is a popular saying that "when the purpose of a thing is not known, then abuse is inevitable". This statement is true even in this forum as understanding your purpose and motivation for join this forum will, to a great extent, determine your approach, commitment, contribution and how long you will stay here (a lot of people disappear after few weeks... I don't mean to scare you though  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy).

Different people joined this forum for different reasons: some to learn about Bitcoin, some already know about Bitcoin but felt the need to join a community where Bitcoin is like a home( to see some of them, go to WO thread) and there are those who joined because they heard that people here make money... so their only motivation is to make money even very quickly.  These are the people that spam, lie and do all manner of despicable things because they want to beat the natural process of learning and growing.

I want to announce to you that if you are only here because you want to make quick money, then you may mostly likely not make the money and here will be so boring to you because you will reveal that tendency and the OGs will notice you.
Some of the older people can share their experience as regards to how they started, maybe we all can learn somethings too.
You have started a good topic here, but to be honest, I don't think if anyone here is really going to admit that he is here to earn money, but when I came to know about the bounties section here. I really thought that I would make money here and I joined this forum. And after spending a lot of time in bounties I started to lose interest as most of the bounties don't pay you. Well, after that, I started to take part in the discussions and my interest started to come back. During the journey, I learned a lot of things about BTC, blockchain technology and what BTC actually provides us.

The experience was so nice that, now I think I don't want to leave this forum. Yeah here I admit it and I still don't think that if any other person would admit it. But your advice is good and if someone here is just after money then I think they would easily be noticed as to earn from signature they have to earn merits and all they try is to phish merits and that can be easily detected. And they (newbies) don't even have to take part in discussions because bounties don't need that, but once a person starts to take part in the discussion, then I doubt that if he will able to not to make a post after that. Because people here are so knowledgeable that, you want to learn more.

Point is, if one started to make post just because he think he have to earn money then their will be no fun and no learning too. Because, one will tend to make post abruptly so that, their post count would reach. But those who enjoy their staying here they are the ones who are still learning and earning (both). I hope newbies would get some idea after reading my reply. I shared my experience just to motivate newbies.

Different people joined this forum for different reasons:
Maybe I have said it before, but there is a hint from my username - stepstowealth. I was in search of what can change my story as someone not born into a wealthy family where there is wealth to inherit. I asked a friend who I knew had more access to information about what can lead me to wealth and he talked about bitcoins and introduced me to this forum. Wealth motivated me to join the forum, and since I knew I did not have knowledge about bitcoins that could bring me wealth, I joined the forum to learn an know more about bitcoins.

All the people who come here solely to make money, most often either leave unnoticed or are glorified by various abuses, by creating many alternative accounts and abusing campaigns. What benefit do such people bring to the community and to the forum? There is no benefit, only parasitization. A lot of newcomers coming to the forum, should realize at once one simple truth that the forum is not a place to earn money, no one promises here any monetary rewards for writing posts. Properly motivated newcomers always ask a lot first, and then try to share their knowledge by creating posts and threads.

OP I understand your plight to this platform. On this basis your ascertions are correct. Most people are here for one reasons or the other best known to them for which you already see them explaining themselves.

I happen to know about Bitcoin a little before I got onboard this platform through a friend. I came here with the mindset to learn, adding more knowledge of Bitcoin and in the course of learning and knowing, I began to reach out to other friends and people within my nearby environment. Learning more about Bitcoin gave me a clear insight of how Bitcoin works and not withstanding, the more I become active here the more I grew through ranks to becoming eligible for other activities which are beneficial to me as a member of this platform. This same benefits avails itself to everyone member of this platform. So nobody would deny the fact that joining this platform was not of benefit to them in one way or the other.

I learnt alot here compared to the little knowledge I had before joining here. I got the exposure to lots of things happening around the world as it relates to Bitcoin and blockchain. I met and made friends here as well. I looked up to people here as role models too. It was never a mistake me coming here. I work and earn in Bitcoin as it is a privilege  as a member here.

This platform is indeed an institution.

It baffles me how the op deviate from the topic of discussion as the heading implies to telling us why people should not join Forum with the mindset of making money. Although, making money is the reason behind why people are rushing into Forum recently and it's not bad either because you work for it. I am not justifying that fact but the truth is that even if you join the forum with the mindset of making money, you must work hard for it first to attain the stage where you can be able to make money..
I don't actually see any contradictions in the post and the topic. For clarity, the essence of the post is to for stress the need to set priorities right to be able to make judicious use of the forum. Having wrong mindset such as get rich quick syndrome is the reason for several bad attitudes here.... if this is addressed and proper mindset achieved, even money will come naturally. I will suggest you take the post for what it said and not what you presuming.

Everyone joining this forum is not because they wanted to make money
I already explain that in the post and as you can see from the humbling submission of many of the experienced guys, a lot of the people join because they believe in Bitcoin and therefore saw the need to belong to a community that have Bitcoin as denominator.

It's funny, I joined this forum in March of 2020 when the Bitcoin price crashed from $10k to $4k. It was panic mode everywhere as people really thought its going to die lol.
That was my initial reaction to this community, and that was the same time when Covid hit. So I was stuck at home, I decided to learn trading and do more in Crypto and I am glad I did.
It paid off well for me. Cheesy
Such a humbling submission! It shows that we all joined in unique was and for various reasons. Personally, I have been using Bitcoin long before I joined this forum. So when I finally knew there is a community like this,I was supper excited to join and at first, it was difficult finding my way around until I did little reading within the forum under the guardian of a some older people.

OP, you already explained the motivation of most forum members here in the forum. For me at the start is, I am introduced to this forum because he have friends who are also here in the forum who earned money and because of that I joined forum but later on, I realized that it isn't the only thing I can do here in the forum. After it all, that's where I started to know that I can learn more about Bitcoin and help others who also want to learn and earn at the same time. What motivated you to join this forum OP?.

I can't say for sure, but as far as I remember, signature campaigns existed in 2014 when I first visited the forum, so we can say that they have existed for about 10 years.

My story is banal. And there are also a lot of topics similar to this one. But you can check the truthfulness of all the stories that the accounts tell about themselves. After all, if a person writes the truth, then the story is always the same, but if he tells a lie, then you can very quickly forget about it and tell something new. I came here specifically for the money, yes, and the bounty at that time seduced many minds. But I came to the forum by accident; I was working on another forum, and it was unavailable for three days, and I didn’t know what to do with my time. By chance, I came across this forum, saw these piles of reports, and decided that I could keep myself busy in addition to my studies by advertising bounties. But I sobered up when I didn’t see the promised tokens in my wallet. And then I became interested in the massive exposure of scam projects that multiplied and were posted here on the forum, several of them every day. But if we say that I sought to participate in subscriptions, this is not true. I heard about them, but only on the advice of a good person here did I decide to take part. And as I often say about this, the forum has become a favorite place for reading from the moment a new day is born until late at night.

This Op thread has been created by other users and this is the second or third time you (lovesmayfamilis) are saying this. I can remembered last year you said it in a thread like this. And I like your sincerity, many people join this forum because of the money getting from signature campaigns and others ways but when questions are asked like this topic they would say, they are here to learn and know more about bitcoin but that is behind the mind. Even the OP of this thread is not sincere and that is why he did not tell us why he join the forum, he would have told what motivated him to join the forum then others would tell theirs.

Well I was introduced by a friend to join the forum when he saw me to learn and invest in bitcoin and I was also told that I can have bitcoin if I join campaigns and that trigger the movement very fast to join the forum and really I am happy to join the forum. Both the learning and the signature campaign makes the forum lively and active.

Everyone joining this forum is not because they wanted to make money, moreover here is not a financial advisory or money making platform, it's basically for bitcoin discussion, though some other opportunities may come in along with time, also we have another category of members that only came here to advertise their service, some come to learn, while others to contribute to the community development.

Also, we have some members that came here to only get their problem solved and leave while some remain, on the contrary to all these, there are other categories of members who came for bounties only, some are here to troll, scam or spam, you can see that we could have a number of categories we could group the members base on their own reason for joining the forum, the only thing that can make one stay here is in going by the rules and regulations of the forum.

Funny thing is when I first know and join this forum, I never knew that I can earn money from this forum in any way. I only want to learn about crypto because I need to receive international payment with cheap fee. But then I know that I this forum has Marketplace for Service section, then I can sell my service here, since then my motivation has been about money by selling my service here, and I actually making money from that. That's why I am kinda slow in ranking up, I don't really contribute much for this forum actually, but I guess I still contribute with what I can and have. I still like to learn new thing new thing from this forum but mostly not about crypto or Bitcoin, more about other people idea and opinion, about other countries and international issue, etc.

It's obvious that old members here before the introduction of merit system and signature campaign who are still active are here for genuine reason which is to share knowledge and gain as well and you can still see that from their post. It's actually sad that the story has changed from seeking sincere knowledge to hunting after money. It however keep the forum more busy and active and it's a win for Forum

The merit system arrived only in 2018, so although it may not be the ideal way to fight spam and alt farms, it has greatly improved the situation on the forum in this regard. However, it is not difficult at all to get 1 merit and become a Jr. Member, which for some is quite enough for bounty campaigns.

Unfortunately, everything in this world revolves around money, and it would be strange if this forum was an exception. But we shouldn't consider it bad if someone has the opportunity to earn something along with acquiring and sharing knowledge, because that's what makes this forum different from the others.

I can only say that I registered on the forum after visiting occasionally as a guest for almost a year, and I only joined the first sig campaign as a full member after realizing that everyone else was doing it. I guess that means that I didn't come to the forum just for money Smiley

Op, you didn't tell us, why you are here also. Before asking such question you should have at least told us in your post why you are here. Alot of people has this same thinking that most people are  just here because of the signature campaigns of which is not totally true. Yes the signature is Also a benefit of being a member, but some members aren't here because of that. Some people have been here even before the signature campaigns started and they are still here till date. Some don't even partake in signature campaigns because it doesn't interest them. The major reason for the forum, is to learn more about Bitcoin and Blockchain technology but as time goes on, members are opened to many other advantages.

It baffles me how the op deviate from the topic of discussion as the heading implies to telling us why people should not join Forum with the mindset of making money. To be honest, I was watching some earning videos from YouTube one day. Suddenly a video of this Bitcointalk came in front of me. After watching this video, I got inspired and opened an account on this forum. Then I watch some more videos of this relationship and try to understand all the rules. Then I started earning money by doing Bounty campaign & Airdrop. I have learned a lot from this forum so I am very glad to join this forum.

Well honestly when I first join here in forums is my friend told me that I could earn here through airdrops and bounty and thats what I did during my early days here on forum. Until I decided to give some effort and become a notable member of the forum by improving my posts compared to posting links of social requirement for campaign. Its not that easy, but Ive enjoyed what Ive learned and discovered being a true user and not a robot account for bounty and airdrops only.

For me I have a coursemate who's lifestyle intrigued me and on asking for his source of change and newness in terms of living he attributed it to Bitcointalk forum.
Yes! He told me that he got into Bitcoin less than 2 years or so but his knowledge was now so much that myself who's been into Bitcoin as an investor and not as a learner didn't have as much as his, not even up to. I thought I could bypass my way ans still be investor minded and grow so fast here financially but the modus operandi of this forum changed my mind because I was scolded many times for rushing as a result of my drive which wasn't a good one for the system here. So initially I was money conscious but just before I began to go for knowledge here and so far although it's not really encouraging but like my friend told me "in Bitcointalk you have to be patient and gain knowledge and contribute positively and correctly if you must post anything, in that way you will grow to higher ranks and you not only be full of knowledge you'll also tend to grow big financially too."

You can check my post so far I'm sure you'll find something to learn. Thanks for giving an opportunity to say this.

Some of the older people can share their experience as regards to how they started, maybe we all can learn somethings too.
I don't think that anyone can learn anything from my reason why I joined bit I'll share it anyway. :p

So, first time I heard about Bitcoin was back in 2013 on another forum (Croatian forum of general type) and since I was active there for many years before that and known all the people there, I didn't have need to look for other places to discuss Bitcoin related things. Everything was fine and dandy up until bear market of 2018 hit, after which many members on the said forum lost interest in crypto.

Since there weren't many people let active in cryptocurrency board, in the summer of 2019 I started looking elsewhere and since I knew some people that were active here, I decided to give it a chance. First few months I was just lurking & reading and since I liked what I saw (especially more lenient moderation than on any other forum I''ve ever been), I eventually decided to register. And here I am 4 years later.

There is a popular saying that "when the purpose of a thing is not known, then abuse is inevitable".

Could you clarify what you mean by purpose and abuse.  Like, is the purpose unknown to the individual, yet known to others?  What else has no purpose except pure science?  Even that I suppose has the purpose of satisfying curiosity maybe?

EDIT:  does the saying mean that if one uses a tool, like a hammer, for example, incorrectly then the consequences of those actions will be negative?
