Why 'internet bitcoin poker'?

I guess in live poker you can gain different kind of insights with body language which increase your edge.  Online you can run stats tracking how a player will play historically.  To me it would seem with live poker you could gain a larger edge vs online if you knew how to read body language - this still is only a few % difference.

I gave vote for 25% luck and 75% skill. I strongly believe that almost all the card games are done with skills. Without being skilled person in card related gambling you can't even imagine to win . Luck play its role just to support you little bit but rest it is your skill and trick to win the game.

Why 'internet bitcoin poker'?

I believe it's mostly luck with some minor skill (25% sounds accurate).

Unless you're playing a first timer, everyone has some degree of skill/luck & some personalities are just an advantage over others.

If we play 10 hands against Phil Ivey, I am afraid we would lose 9 hands or lose all.

Phil ivey would only have a certain % of advantage, its more that better players have a bigger edge the longer you play them.  Any weak player could beat phil ivey over even 1000 hands.

So in the short term poker is about luck and very little skill.  In the long term poker is about skill and very little luck.

Totally agree with "Phil ivey would only have a certain % of advantage" and "In the long term poker is about skill and very little luck", playing against famous pros likes playing against a casino game has 99%+ house edge. And I watch high stakes poker, great pros like Phil ivey and Tom Dwan won more than loss, weaker pro players hardly win ONE HAND against those famous pros(Phil ivey, Johnny Chan and Tom Dwan).

Imagine we play against him in heads up. He just needs to bet all of our bankroll, and we dare not call when we have bad hands, and he easily get our blinds. Just playing several hands, our money would be run out.  Cheesy

Why dont you just play your position and bet all in against him and make him fold - the blinds are yours???

Because after doing all ins just for the blinds eventually he will just call you with a semi decent hand and chances are you will be behind 60-40 or 65-35 etc.  Overall the strategy is a loser.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the size of your bankroll.

Poker is a completely different proposition at the 10cent level than it is at the $10,000 level.

Yeah not wise to play outside what you can afford even if you have +ev decisions.  Best thing though is to focus on +ev vs any other thing.

This is a gambling forum, and most of you gamble somewhere with Bitcoin, so I am curious what percent of internet Bitcoin poker you think is luck vs skill?

  • Do you even consider internet Bitcoin poker to be gambling?
  • Are you more comfortable gambling against the house?
  • Is poker too much action or not enough action?

  • Poker is gambling; but, PvP poker is fair enough however, I would ask any Player vs computer poker site to be ProvablyFair.
  • Not much; but, if the house is ProvablyFair I may consider it.
  • I don't understand your question; IMO, poker is about skills and strategy.

Poker is a completely different proposition at the 10cent level than it is at the $10,000 level.

Similarly, I'm sure you'd play differently in a $1000 buy in if it was all the money you had compared to if you had a million dollars.

If someone gave you $1M and said you had to win $1k a week, almost any half decent poker player could do it....so is it luck, skill, or size of bankroll?? Hmmm

The size of your bankroll is very important. In any given session I would say luck is close to 90% and skill 10%. After a month it may go to 50% luck and 50% skill. After a year it may go 1% luck and 99% skill. The bankroll allows you to combat the luck to utilize your skills.

skill, emotion, lucky .. I think poker is very dependent on that

I was reading the book and seems to need a few time to understand
so far I just play poker with little skill
Emotion plays a huge par tin it as well. One of the more underrated factors in poker.

guess who's back
I would suggest to read Theory of Poker by David Sklansky

this book will answer all of your questions and doubts about everything related to poker

Seems that you have read the book..so would so share here?

Talk about luck vs skill in poker, I'd prefer to say 75% luck 25% skill. Yes the main reason is just because it is gambling Smiley

skill without Luck is nothing, but luck without skill is awesome. lol

He refuses to name poker as gambling if so he call it gambling with an edge
he talks about everything related to poker

starting from the odds that you can't change it in casino games but in poker you can double up even if you are 90% favor
he talks about the luck factor that will not affect your results in the long run

he said that good poker players are in a massive war with luck
when they feel that there opponents are drawing , they try to kick them out of the hand

my english is too bad to review his great book
if you are interested google the review of this book
or read it , i'm sure you will have a nice read if you love poker

I'm sure that David Sklansky is the best Author
he also have book in sportsbetting and general gambling

I went for it being mostly skill. I don't play too much poker as I am pretty bad at it and never found too  much enjoyment out of it.

depends who you play against
final table of the most famous games are always the same players, and fortune favors only the beginning, after is only skill

I would say it depends on how stupid and experienced you are.

Not at all stupid = You don't play poker

Experience directly proportional to level of skill and inversely to luck required.

I play poker online for fiat and bitcoin and can safely say that it is very close to 50/50 the beginning stages when you are accumulating chips takes skill and luck as well as later on in the tournament when you need the skill and luck to make your moves at the right time. One without the other and you will not win a mtt, you will need both in any poker game to be on top.

The trick is to minimize your losses when running bad and maximize your profits when running good with bankroll management that  requires a lot of skill, patience and discipline.

No i am not more comfortable betting against the house as they have the edge that i want.

Yes Bitcoin poker is gambling but gambling you have the most chance with if you have a brain.

Poker has different stages sometimes for hours there is not enough action and other times later in the game it is action packed.

It all depends on what time the anonymous admin is playing the game whilst watching the server logs closely.

It's facinating to see such different viewpoints to this question.

A good read is here about this - http://realmoney.durrrrchallenge.com/skill-luck-paradox/

I still am of the view it's more skill than luck.
