I really salute to the people who casted their vote above 80%, I liked their confidence. Anyway, I have voted for 2% to 4% people will own bitcoins in 2020, especially if we are talking about total percentage of earth’s population (which is increasing drastically) we should really consider few things like economic conditions, government’s approach towards crypto currencies and digital economic scenario. If things went positive then we might see large number of people would be using bitcoins and other crypto currencies but still if we are talking about next 5 years, it won’t be more than 6% of the total global population.
That's true, too much confidence will somehow bring a good atmosphere in the community as we are optimistic with the future of bitcoins, however, as investor who put a decent amount of money we should side on the most realistic approach of speculation as our future investment is at stake.

In three years I don't think we can see a dramatic change increase in the number or proportion of people holding bitcoins in the world, because I think this is a very short period of time to see the dollar, euro or any other currency dramatically losing its value. Perhaps in ten years this conditions might be different and we could see an increased adoption of alternate coins, but not these days.
There is some potential for a lot to happen over the course of three years, however I'll try and not sound too optimistic for now. The next three years are going to be very, very interesting because a lot of things are going to happen that are going to determine the future of the economy, politics and humanity in general. Things could happen that would rapidly propel Bitcoin upwards and make it more common or valuable. In three years I don't think we can see a dramatic change increase in the number or proportion of people holding bitcoins in the world, because I think this is a very short period of time to see the dollar, euro or any other currency dramatically losing its value. Perhaps in ten years this conditions might be different and we could see an increased adoption of alternate coins, but not these days.
Hopefully we can see that in the future, it is good to see that the crypto world is getting popular in the world and this would help the majority of users to have a better experience transacting online, with this it could promote increase of income for individual as they will do away with other costly payment processor.

as 2020 is not so far and and only 3 to 4 year to go for 2020, therefore i think in 2020 only 10% of the world population will be using bitcoin, actually in present time most of the people have no knowledge about computer and internet, still most of the people have no access to internet, they have not facilities of internet available. but hope that the next generation will have all these facilities and then they will be able to use bitcoin so easily.

That is a very decent estimate, we are already big with that number of percentage and I believe that implies millions already of the total population of the world. We are lucky we have reach that percentage and more luckier because we are on board now having a ride for a good future.

Whatever the percentage of people owning bitcoin is today, add maybe 1%, and that is my intuitive guess as to what the percentage will be less than 4 years from now.

i think something like 30 per cent of all earth people will be owning bitcoins by then it would be really cool as the price would be booming straight up then
I have a doubt about that...30% might be too big... I think it won't cross 10%... There are still few bitcoin collectors in my opinion...Those people who has their job I think had no time trying to earn bitcoin specially those not so techy people... I think also that most of us here are those who are always in front of the computer...

What? Even, it is impossible since we only have .05% of current population that uses bitcoin, 80% is like 5 billion of all population in the world and we're not even half of that. Do you know that there are only 5million users that use bitcoin all over the world?
It's true that bitcoin is use globally but the scale of the users is not big as what you think.
i can't answer becauce i don't know how much of people on earth have bitcoin but the number is growing day by day so maybe it will be the double or like that
You can calculate it on the block chain. Or maybe on the people who registered at Bitcointalk. For example there is approximately 700,000+ Users here in Bitcointalk, then calculate it on the date you start it and try to calculate again at year 2020 . For me, maybe there will be Approximately 3 Million Users who are using Bitcoin on that year. That's how you can calculate it. But that's only my prediction.

Is there any site or institution that does research on that?
why there should be? i dont think it is required at the moment, in my opinion something like 30 per cent of the earth people will be using their bitcoins all the time, at least thats what i hope for right now
for me i think 40 to 50 percent of people will be using bitcoin in in 2020. i think about 30 percent people may be still be able to know how to use computer or internet therefore these people may be able to get benifit from that.
Nobody knows how things will be in 2020. Nobody can predict it. World's situation changes almost everyday. Who will become president of Unated States and Russia and what will be with European Union, who will join it or leave it next? Many questions. And all this politic affects on bitcoin somehow and moods of crowd.
\Yeah no one can surely tell what will be the number of users using bitcoin by that time, but we can expect higher number of users till then.
