Recently, a friend of mine approached me with a question about what he should read about gambling. He read a lot of specialized forums and looked at information on websites, but he was not satisfied. He started betting on sports not so long ago, but began to lose a lot and realized that he had a significant lack of theoretical knowledge. He loves books and believes that only books present knowledge systematically, and not chaotically, as on many websites. But his question stumped me. Although I have read some books on sports betting, poker and other games, I do not know what specifically to advise a beginner. What books would you recommend?

What i must recommend with beginners is they should learn financial literacy books at first so that they'll value money before spending on things for quick profit sources as well as investing with gambling that has no assurance for good profit. However, that gambling literature could be acquire through learning from experience and those books on sports betting as well as other games was just a reference and inspiration for us. Not all aspiring gamblers will also be as lucky like those whales who can bet all over again without losing their money despite of losing millions of dollars.

In my opinion, what your friend did should be able to create opportunities to win if he not only reads but also puts into his brain important readings that must be applied properly and correctly so that they can create opportunities to win.

Because many people only read but cannot understand and appreciate the readings properly and find it difficult to apply them properly in real life which makes what is read unsuccessful, gambling is purely a matter of luck and knowledge and accurate information is important to be able to create opportunities to win. But it all comes back to the person and also the mental and emotional conditions when betting because it also affects the results, your friend must correct himself properly because what your friend did was not something that most gamblers did not do but they can still be lucky because they can learn from experience and improve themselves when betting.

I really don't know of any books that would give you a good gambling training. Gambling is a fun place but many people want to use it as an easy way to earn money, but a large part of them suffer in a big way. A person who looks for gambling training books is undoubtedly very serious about gambling. If he is a good friend of yours then I would suggest you to make him understand the risk of gambling well and advise him to stay away from gambling as his seriousness is too much which will make him regret a lot at the same time.

Books are just the story of the game itself like the history the rules and just how to play, but if you want to get involve with the sports betting knowledge with the team, their strategy and how they will execute in the match, you can easily identify those by taking the statistics and data of their previous matches so you can get an idea if the team have a near match have the potential to bet. If you love to read of course the same with the internet its just like a large scale of book and knowledge in the web. Bet to the team you know has the higher chance to win base on your knowledge.

We don't need a book to understand about sport betting or even poker, it may take 5 minutes to read the basic of how it works and that's it. We know there is no way we can increase our chances of winning in gambling so don't advise him that which is kind of giving false hope rather just make him to realize this is the reality, not everyone can win in gambling and the glorious winning stories we read online are just marketing gimmick to attract more customers.

I have tried reading and watching a lot of videos and documents, websites, prediction and news related sites for sport betting and never managed to be successful. This means that no matter what you read or watch regarding gambling it won't help you over the long run as no matter how much your knowledge is, no one can predict the future and gambling is trying to predict the future in your favor, if we were able to do that our life would be amazing and wonderful yet for most of us it is not. So one can read a lot of information in order to increase our knowledge a bit but overall in the long run as I said it is not at all going to help us because no matter what decision we take and what game we choose to bet on we simply cannot predict the future and in fact there is a great saying for football games which sums it all up, "the ball is round and you don't know where will it go" suggesting that even super strong teams can lose their game.

It looks like your friend is gambling for money, I doubt reading books would help because books are mostly old, so it only contain old information.

I would recommend to take online course like Udemy or learn from professional gamblers, however make sure to not spend too much. There are many so called claimed to be professional gamblers out there and they only want your money, while they don't have deep knowledge about the games.

If he is already losing, he is learning the hard way, which, to be honest, is typically the fastest method people become humble by gambling. But if he wants structure, books are the right call. Forums are noise; books are the long game

My first suggestion is Edward Thorp's A Man for All Markets. Thorp is THE guy. After breaking black jack, the man turned around and used the same reasoning on Wall Street. Half gambling, half financial, and 100% “learn how to think” energy. It teaches not only how systems operate but also how to spot patterns, when to back off. Anyone gambling without understanding probability is just feeding the machine.

Should he be more inclined toward the "mindset" side of things, How to Win the Lottery with the Law of Attraction is less technical but more psychological. It's about keeping discipline, not allowing emotions rule the show, and matching ideas and behavior. It sounds like fluff until you realize more than half of gambling is managing your own impulses

Knowing he needs information helps him to already be on the correct path. Tell him to layer up: game-specific techniques, probability, and perspective. Read wide, lose less.

Rather than reading, if you wanted to learn about poker you would have to register in an online poker school. Poker books as a secondary thing. And that they are not very old, because recommending TAG to start at low levels does not work so well nowadays.

In my opinion, the best thing is to combine the knowledge acquired in books with the knowledge that can be acquired by watching videos, but the knowledge that you will acquire with books and videos will not make you the greatest bettor in the world, because you will not know each league and each team well, to be able to know, for example, whether in a given game you should bet on the winner or whether you should go to the Asian market or the goals market, there is also the corners market, the cards market. So without knowing the teams and their players well, it will be difficult for you to get most of the games right.

Knowledge is a temporary thing when we are go into gambling. Many things comes to place before things can start getting better while gambling. If you monitor your gambling processes you will observe that knowledge, experience, tolerance, optimism, following instincts are things that determine the outcome of our gambling. Then the most important thing is luck. Watching tutorials, buying books, and visiting special forums are necessary for controlling our gambling addictions. None of these things can help us win in gambling only control our habits and what we do.

For me I think you don't need to read so much book to get the real understanding of gambling. Firstly one should be able to understand that gambling is unpredicted and it is game of lose or win that is why it is important for one not to have so much expectation of winning outcome in gambling. It is mandatory for one to know in gambling it is more profitable when you gamble with the money you can afford to lose and also to know when to stop playing when one is losing. If one should make research of getting the real knowledge in gambling this are things that are there which is very easy to find.

If gambling winning involves reading books before having most gambling wins, I am sure the illiterate beings we see in gambling houses, wouldn't draw close to gambling bets because they can't read about how to have gambling wins. Gambling without knowing how to read for the wins will make one lose interest in it easily.

However, reading books hasn't been what any gambler has been found doing. Each of us gambles with what our intuition tells us after analyzing the team's statistics via their current performance.

Does your friend like the sport he plays? Maybe he likes tennis or basketball or even football.
If he doesn't have that pleasure and doesn't follow and have an understanding of the match he bets on, that's a really bad way.
In theory, how to make a bet is something very simple and can be done by a beginner. But it seems like your friend makes it too serious. naturally, when your friend likes the sport he chooses to bet on, he shouldn't need a book guide or anything.

I’d read books if I were dead serious about sports betting, but I’m not, and honestly, I find it a waste of time. Most of those authors aren’t real winners in sports betting anyway. Think about it, if you were a successful sports bettor would you write a book sharing your strategy with everyone? It doesn’t make sense to me, I mean why give away the secret sauce if it’s working for you?

I bet that almost all of us here don't read books when we first gamble, what we do is simply find a casino that offers the best games and start gambling there, and over time we start to learn from our experiences and find out things about gambling ourselves. the only good thing to read when gambling is a psychology book, because most gamblers are very weak in this matter and easily get emotional when they lose or can't control when they win a lot, books about psychology should be able to help them train their psychology and make them mature in this matter.

I think it will be better for your friend to be watching the matches of the sport he loves to bet on so that he can use that as an advantage for his next bet, because he would some lessons from every matche he watches. Personally, I believe in praticals than theory when it comes to gambling. However, since your friend need to book to help me out, he should try this out ""The logic of sport betting" written by Ed Miller and Matthew Davidow.

I have never relied on books; even my friends never relied on books when it comes to gambling. If you're looking for books or tutorials and guaranteed winning based on their formula or methods, they just want to make money on gullible gamblers like you. Part of the knowledge I learn from gambling is from my peers' tips, which they keep secret and only share with close friends, and besides, you will eventually learn to set up your own system or methods through experience. For you to learn how to swim, you have to be ready to get wet.

Sometimes theres no trick on gambling and some actually just win out of luck. But thats literally a fairy tail, for sure some users have some technique over this and likey to pursue some knowledge or ways on how to beat such games. In poker, slots or any kind of game but Im curious too with this thread or comments that would likely give some info about it.

Is it really necessary to read books for us to learn those things? Although it might helpful but this is really so traditional thing and I guess there are few people doing that.

Maybe better for him to watch the game live so that he would get an idea about the latest happening on the sports he tries to follow and place his bets. Since what we can read on books is just a theory and provably that not every information written there is helpful or something like we can follow. But if he really want to know more about the league and spots team maybe better visit the official site of the league  so that he or both of you guys could get an update on that sports you are watching.
