Bank is where keep your money safe, it is not the place to invest. $500 is a small amount, if he lose all it doest make his life become worse, but if he invest in good coins, he can get back a lot of money because to make x10 or x20 profit always happen in crypto world.

I would certainly invest 500 in bitcoin to begin with , and then would have waited for the market to begin to return the rest of the money would be sent to altcoins

You can invest in any coin, but it is better to try to trade. Analyze multiple altcoins, assemble a portfolio and sell short or medium-sized transactions

any of altcoin are unstable and I am sure may crash at any time, so it might be a little bit unsafety to invest all of your money there, so about 40% keep in bitcoin and other 60% want to recommend you to try research what coin you more like by yourself(that's interesting!))

But people write books and studies about how to trade crypto... So, following your logic we shouldnt trust anybody?
p.s I advise author to buy only top coins and it will be the best way during such market conditions.

I think that in your place I would have bought a few coins EOS, would have invested in Ethereum and Waves. Bitcoin is also worth buying, but $ 500 is not much overclocking.
