With 500 $ you have, you can buy a few coins to make an investment, for example ethereum, neo eos, buy the coin and start to invest the coins you have, and wait for the future you will benefit
There are many good icos, but you have to be careful choosing the winner. Look if there is a useful product behind any ico and don't just invest in those old Altcoins (sometimes long, very old alts are dead!) so just check and be very careful. the more time you put into research, the better your decision will be!

How I wish you didn't have the $500 funds then but now. Investing in January would have resulted in a big loss now irrespective of whether you chose strong or weak coins. I hope you can recover your loss

If I were you the best choice to invest 500$ would be bitcoin. For me alts right now are in a bad and disappointing position therefore making it hard to invest in. Investing on something big and more stable just like bitcoin is much better than gambling and taking risk on others which has low price right now. In the end it is up to you wether you would like to risk or play it safe.
If I have 500 $ I still survive to invest in Bitcoin and will think twice if I invest in other coins because it has a greater risk than Bitcoin. Everyone can see for themselves the price of Altcoin which has a bad decline from the prices that have been determined.
Well i would invest in altcoins . Bitcoin and Etherium are also promising but i feel alts are ready for the big ride . I project that bitcoin dominance will be again around 37% of all crypto market. But do your own research please

How sure are you that if people help you to pick just like you requested, they will pick the right thing for you? Sometimes, they may pick what could give you profit and that will give them profit, but you might make nothing out of it. Which is why it will be good you do your own research. I would recommend you to invest in projects that were nit pumped yet, otherwise your investment might just be linear or decrease in time.
