Personally instead of investing in very popular coin I would spread the fund across very unpopular recently launched good projects which is currently undervalued, possibly with low cap and low supply compared to current trading value, if 40% gets successful, will be a huge profit. At least there is a possibility of 1000% in a year time, digitex has done over 5x ICO price

a lot of places and options to invest from $500 that you have. many coins are also potentially enough and even being at a low enough price to be purchased. ethereum, ripple, and NEM into consideration are good if you want to try. at least it's some coins which are quite even results not only for me but for some others as well.

$500 is a small investment, so you get not much profit if you invest in Ethereum or Bitcoin. And because $500 will not affect your emotion much so invest in coins or tokens, which have low value is a smart choice.
