To determine the best potential coin, you may look and track coins ib the coin marketcap. Coimarketcap allows you to see ranked coins that have shown great growth performance. Another thing about it is that if you are finding a Coin that is newly introduced, you can also find it there. Instead of joining on an ICO I prefer looking at coins such as those.
Ethereum, I'm sure the next 5-10 years this coin has a good prospect. Then we can also see XRP, this coin is good for long term investment because XRP cooperate with conventional bank.
All platforms: Waves, Ethereum, ICON, Qtum. Coins to be used in the future: Dash, Bitcoin, Monero, nano
For now I only choose EOS dan TronX for long-term investment.
Hold them for one or two years,and maybe you can gain big profit.
Also market still at the bearish condition.so now is the best moment to buy and hold them.and don't sell it for a piece of cake.

Those would be the altcoins that have smart contract capabilities or that have higher speed for the blockchain protocol. For long-term investment, I would recommend Ethereum, EOS, NEO, IOTA, NEM, Stellar.
As for me, my preference list is:
1) ETH
2) NEO
3) EOS
4) ADA
5) Monero
6) IOTA
All of them will be good for long term, maybe not as forget for many years, like BTC.

I would have to say Cardano (Ada). Stringently tested and with alot of updates and added features to come. It's already in the top ten market cap although it is relatively young. Massive potential.
Long-term investment in coins is not a bitcoin, because it is the most stable currency in the market. If you want to invest in a small altcoin. Try to choose the top ranked. Listed as Litecoin, Ripple, eth, Eos, etc.
I think that buying ICX coins is a great long-term investment, it is a South Korean coin, which will be used by ICO in this country, and in the crypto currency they are very developed!
I made up my portfolio from bitcoin, ether and added the dether, daostack, shivom. I really believe in the dether and expect this project to be very large, at least 50x.
For me, Bitcoin is the best coin to hold especially for long-term like 5-10 years. Ethereum is the one of the best coin to hold for long term. I'm pretty sure that you'll get a ton of profit if you try that.

As my point of view and experience from trading I think WRC and Waves are the great coin to long term investment.
altcoin that can be a mainstay for the next 5 to 10 years is ethereum, although the price is now much different from its predecessor the bitcoin but the future of this coin I think will be very good to be a long-term investment 5 to 10 years
I vote for bitcoin, eth, ripple, neo, monero and iota. It seems that they already on a top of own price, but i think it will increase.
I'm definitely holding on to Bitcoin, some Ethereum and NEO's. But also looking into new intereseting projects with a future ahead. Really into Effect.AI now... seems like a steady business model
Well, I think ETH can repeat the experience of bitcoin, and of course IOS can also repeat everything that happened with these coins! the prospect is very huge!

My favourite coin and the one I cab recommend is ETHERUM as it has a great use case. Many businesses have built their platform on the etherum's network and this makes the platform a good long term investment to make as it would surely reward its investors if they choose this investment..
