I recommend  Bitcoin.
Bitcoin way safer than other cryptocurrencies. It is prone to dangerous volatile like most that have crashed alot from their peak.

If you want to make more profits trading with that amount, I would recommend the low cap coins.  They could give you reasonable amount of profits in singe b rally but are too risky

Beginners should be very careful in investing in the cryptocurrency market.
Be sure to examine the market and understand its concept.
If you choose coins to invest in it seems to me choose Ethereum.
Of course, this coin will be able to meet your expectations in the long run.

This is a very bad idea to ask the opinion of complete strangers about where you should invest. Study the material on the topic, and ask questions about obscure nuances. This approach will be much more productive.
actually not so bad. when you are someone who just knows crypto you don't have good experience to choose assets for your investment. and I think I need advice and analysis from other people for my consideration in determining my investment.
If a person does not know how (does not want) to study projects on their own and on the basis of his analysis to make an informed choice that he has nothing to do in this area!
Because it was playing a very important role. The fundamental can change instantly and we must study the benefits and the risk from each coin. that will bring us to a lot of benefit with fewer risks. it's our responsibility
Please explain to me why you answer me? I didn't ask a question. In addition, my message to which you gave the answer has nothing to do with your answer.

Investing in the cryptocurrency is a very good idea. However, its worth part is the idea to spend ALL of the money you have. Just take one-third of your assets and buy the best altcoins like TRON, Eidoo, ETH, and NEO.

This is my personal opinion, please do not consider it as financial advice. Investing is too risky but at least you are not gambling. I do not consider investing as gambling.
My picks are BTC, ETH, LTC, Ripple, Blue Protocol, Baanx, SugarExchange. You can search them and hope will certainly help you to settle your mind.
As you already have seen, I invested in several projects, not in 1 or 2. And please do not invest large sum into single project. Again this is not a financial advice, just my opinion. You can certainly ignore it.

Honestly, your best bet is to just buy bitcoin.

$1000 - $2000 is too low to fully profit from a diversified portfolio.
Also, when the market is like how it is now, typically btc outperforms other coins.
Yes, you will see some alts do a temporary 10% increase or something, but the dip after that is typically worse than the gain.

Something very simple  you can do to start building more capital is the simple buy low sell high method.
I would recommend Gemini exchange if you are american, it is fully compliant and stable.
Basically, when you see btc dip then buy.
Then, immediately relist to sell for 5% more.
In a high volume exchange like Gemini or Binance (use USDT to buy/sell your bitcoin), it will take no more than a week to sell.
When it dips again, repeat.

This way, you will steadily gain more btc and capital rather than just having it sit around in your wallet.
When your portfolio reaches $5000 or more in value, then that is a good time to start branching out and diversifying.

As a beginner, your best bet will be the  coins at the top with regards coinmarket capitalization which have experienced major downtrend recently. For instance, XRP has some cool news with regards SWIFT deal, and also ETHEREUM too with regards Constantinople. XLM too is a good one, it experienced a major dip.  Those are just some of my picks. Please do proper due diligence before accumulating any coin, this is certainly not an investment advise, thanks.

How would you invest $1000 - 2000

Thanks

I made my first investments 50 to 50 in Bitcoin and Ethereum. Already further reduced these shares to 25% for each coin, and the rest invested in a dozen different ICOs. Of these, I managed to earn only 3, but the profit covered all the losses.
1000-2000 is a small amount, so you better invest it in trading on a few pairs of coins.

I will suggest you for a start to buy some BTC and ETH. Learn about how to send transactions, how to use and create wallets, try to use different centralized exchanges and DEX. And only then look for a strong projects/ICO, which you will trust. And one more advise - do not listen other people, always do your own research and only than decide to invest or not. Always remember that crypto can be a very profitable investment, but at the same time is very risky. There are a large amount of opportunities how to earn money in crypto, choose what you like and grow your skill in this direction.

I think that if a newcomer to cryptocurrency invests in the top ten coins listed in the CoinMarketCap table, he will never be mistaken. And above all, you need to start with a certain number of bitcoins and ethereum. These coins will always be in demand.
Investing in tokens is always associated with a certain increased risk, for this you need to know the market and have information about the project itself, on the basis of which the token was issued.

For the starter, you might think to choose Bitcoin or ethereum as some part of training in cryptocurrency trading or just for holding.
Just be wise on how you share those funds of yours into the coins that you wanted to invest.

I think the best strategy for your capital is investing in the most popular and less risky coins. You can find them on coinmarketcap. In top 30 cryptocurrencies from the list.
it's good to start investing if you see and understand all the risks that will be gained in investing if our beliefs are already there as a beginner, maybe the next step is to buy and start investing with coins that have value or price in the top five in the crypto market today

Please take your time and study how the market works because since you are a beginner it is not advisable for you to jump in and invest in cryptocurrency right away. However if you insist and really wants to buy coins choose from btc, xrp, eth for long-term.

if you ask about invest then i suggest btc because it's the most stable coin.
dont need to look the price everyday, just buy and keep it for 1 or 2 year.
its different if you want to trade, you must choose the great coin at that time, because trading can give you fast profit and also with risk.
Bitcoin first and if you started to become knowledgeable about the market, you can do deeper with these altcoins. Likewise, go for bitcoin for the first time and beginner investors would feel excited on how much you'll make with it. Don't fall for those altcoins that has nothing to do with you and can even make your standing worst of having an exit scam.

In the end you also need a good chunk of luck to hit an alt coin that goes up several times. Many people will tell you it's only about analysis, but believe luck is a good part of the success in crypto.

Using common sense and not getting blinded by greed is important, too.
Some altcoins really needed luck before investing and don't do this if you are into altcoins. Someone who's investing into altcoins and totally depends to luck isn't doing his research. A beginner shouldn't go with his luck otherwise he has to learn about the basic fundamentals on what coins are good to invest.
if you rely on altcoin for investment in beginners it seems that it will have a very high risk because to be able to choose a good altcoin and potentially be able to provide benefits you should be able to choose a good altcoin and certainly need to know the platform developed in the altcoin, while beginners are still difficult to choose the best cryptocurrency platform.
