The reason why people still get engaged in gambling even after losing is because they tend to because of their quest to recover their  already lost money.  When a gambler loses in gambling,  he'll definitely want to gamble more in other to recover his money which in most cases leads to gambling addiction. It takes a very experienced and matured mind in gambling to stop gambling immediately after losing while to the newbies in gambling,  the best thing to do at that moment is to gamble as often as possible to ensure they reclaim their money. Many people are either lazy or frustrated with life that the only thing that gives them joy is living on the false hope of gambling, they're not motivated to try out new things or start  legitimate hustling because they've built their life around gambling to the extent that they're mentally lazy now and don't see any other legitimate hustle as paramount. I also have a friend who have gambled continously for a year but could barely burst off a win. It as always been lost over lost as he continued trying yet he won't stop. He has changed several games to basketball, volleyball, casinos and so on but yet, it does not fly and whenever you advise him to stop, he will tell you not to worry about it that there's no harm in trying for the last time. I don't know if he has stopped gambling now because I've not heard from him for a while now.

The reason why your friends keep playing gambling despite their frequent loss is because they think they've invest so much already and would probably want to recover their money back from gambling. That is one damage addiction can do to gamblers and you'll not realize what trap you have fallen into until you manage to overcome the situation.

Changing of game is another alternative but have you considered individual preferences and area of interest? I guess no. Some gamblers are only good in a specific game and it will be difficult to change game when they have no idea about other games. If I'm honest, every night I see young people who don't work gather in hangouts to play slots. Some even sell their vehicles just to gamble. Well, you are right about people or gamblers being greedy with money. What's driving people or gamblers to keep on playing is the money itself. I also don't think that what the OP said about changing the game will do anything; anything related to gambling or gambling games will also have the same effect. It's all about losing more money from any gambling games. Yes, and this addiction is incredibly strong. It is very difficult to get rid of it so easily in one moment. I once had this. I played all day long, even when I lost all my money. What made me start again? This is an incredible craving and desire to win back. All this together gives a very evil effect, which is accompanied by some kind of intoxicating state.
