People pray because there are things they cannot do. That's when they need someone or something out there or up there that might be of help. Things beyond human power are attributed to the gods. Praying is the way to send their pleadings to them.

You're assuming things. I pray to myself not to god. It increases my confidence and helps me do better.Praying to god? I don't really get the point of that either. Maybe it helps some people have more confidence and peace, not me.
Latin roots of the word doesn't involve god anywhere. Prayer doesn't necessarily involve god.
People tend to believe in power and they also tend to ask for some stuff from powerful creatures. For that reason, many of the people are asking for cars, houses, better health from nonexistend god. Praying is an instinct to compensate our pains and desires.

I think that sometimes you can ask god to change something and he can. Sometimes he can't. Maybe it's that simple but honestly I think that part of it is just to feel as if you are helping. A prayer for a loved one in need can be a relief just for yourself because you tried something at least!

How do you pray to your self? You are the boss of yourself it is probobly not praying but encouraging yourself to be better of something. To take courage and be confident over something. Those who believe in someone mightier than they are or someone more sovereign pray. Prayer is something spiritual.

I think it depends on what you believe in. If you believe that God has a plan, you will not put your needs and wants on your prayer. Usually other people say their prayer to thank God and to forgive them for their sins. I think you can just add up you wish and let God do his plan. If he thinks that your wish is up to his plan then he will surely grant it in his plan. There's no format for prayers, prayer is your way of speaking to God. Your prayer depends on how you view God.

Prayer is a spiritual sustenance, and perhaps we have many things we want, and we can not have it in our lives. Then we need to pray and give us hope and let us be mentally satisfied.
People communicate with God through prayer, they believe that the creator should be treated not through ordinary words, but with the help of prayer and their request will be heard.
We pray because we need to, even though if it is God's will or not. Not because of God's will we don't pray at all, God is challenging our faith in Him yet we need to seek God in good or in bad times.
Yes, prayer is like our talk with God.
We can't live without talking, so we can't live without prayer.
God waiting for us to come back and sometimes He makes our lives difficult, in order to help us to change.
