Most of the time people hide because they are doing something illegal, they are afraid of being arrested so they hide. and I believe that this is the case with these people in your country. There is also the privacy side, there are many cases in which a person takes money and spends it and the other people who live with him are constantly asking him where he spends the money and how does he know that if he says the place where he spends money People will criticize him, so he prefers to play it hidden and doesn't say anything to anyone. The problem with this type of bad attitude is that he will be participating in something illegal that when the police catch him playing he will be immediately arrested. Then there is also the side that he may be addicted and in this case the addiction will be on a greater level because no one suspects that he is addicted and consequently he will be treated too late.



In my country it is also illegal to gamble on the streets and bet money, but if people in my country are playing in physical and online casinos, then it is legal. There's no problem with that. The reason my country's government cited when it banned people from being on the streets in places without a license to gamble is because in those places they won't pay taxes, in those places they could launder money, in those places they could easily fight and kill each other because they didn't there would be no security, unlike the physical casinos in my country where there are security guards and all the luxury to make people feel good, also in online casinos people are safer because they won't fight with each other. now sitting in an abandoned place to play and bet money is a big risk


at least from what I can see in my country, on any street there are lottery tickets sold, on any street it is easy to see slot machines, there are many local sports betting sites in my country, there are many physical casinos in my country and Most people I see place sports bets and play. So in the case of my country, people don't need to gamble secretly or break the laws because the government of my country is gambling-friendly. Now in countries where religion is the law, then gambling is prohibited, people will gamble in secret because they fear criticism and punishment.

In some countries like mine, this WHOT game has been known to be illegal gambling, and a lot of people have been arrested when caught, so those people really need to hide.
 
While playing the game, it's not something they can bring out in the open; unless they are just playing the WHOT game without adding any money as a bet on it, they can play it publicly.
 
If they are caught here in my country, they will be arrested. This is because the WHOT game in gambling has been known in my neighbourhood to be one of the forms of gambling with the highest rate of violence compared to other games.

Basically, gambling in the past years were played secretly by gamblers because the public sees anyone involved in gambling as wayward and people that are worthless because they spend most of their money on gambling of which in most cases loses a lot of money to gambling. Just in recent years that people started being more visible in gambling offices reasons being that a lot of people in the society are now into gambling due to economic hardship and trying to find an easy way to make quick money.

It is very obvious that the gambling you are referring to is a physical gambling were two people or group of people bet among themselves. The reason why they hide is not far from same reason as I explained which is they don't want people to notice that they are playing gambling because they will see them as wayward people too but I don't encourage this physical gambling because I know the kind of fights and arguments that mostly occurs in this type of gambling so it is not advisable to get physical with gambling just to avoid some embarrassment and quarrels among one another.

I would not say that they are hiding, but they need a quite and lonely place which will enable them enjoy gambling, and so that there will be no distraction from people. When playing card games, it needs total concentration, and I think that was why they went to isolate themselves in that uncompleted building.

Another reason might be that they decide to hide the or gambling activities from the public, so that people will not call them irresponsible, as that is the name people tag all gamblers. Down here gambling is done sometimes in secret, it is not everyone that love exposing themselves as gamblers.

Here in PH, there are a lot of prohibited gambling activities going on in private places like inside a residence. These people usually play Mahjong and Chinese poker. These are the kind of activities that are considered underground gambling events and these are being seized by the authorities. However, the police aren't so strict with these policies and aren't so active in catching these kind of gambling activities. so these has become rampant overtime.
This is one of the reason why some gamblers are hiding or keeping in a secret so that authorities won't get a hint about there whereabouts. These gamblers may not also tell their family members about the venue to avoid
getting exposed very open publicly.
These kind of gambling is one of the leading reason about family problems in the country, as they often operate 24/7. A person may walk in with full of cash today and get home on the other day or two with empty pocket.

I know the reason why people hide their gambling activities since its either their environment where they currently belong doesn't accept this activity and take this as heavy sin or they don't want to influence other people to gamble to since they just want to face to consequences of all the actions done so people choose to hide their activity and don't tell this to anyone.

But if everything is open in their side and no people will criticize them towards the decision then also the activity they choose for sure gambler will not hide their activity since nobody like to sneak just to gamble since its stressful for hiding our activities since we don't want to be seen by those people who is not open minded on gambling activities and its consequences.

that's true, because there are countries that don't legalize gambling, and those who gamble in secret may be one of the factors because of this, now if they live in a country where gambling is prohibited, and when they are found out by the government maybe they will get into trouble because it has violated the law established by the state. because in my opinion gambling can destroy someone's life, but it is also because of their own fault for gambling excessively.
but the fact is that gambling is very tempting, so even though it is said that gambling is prohibited, there are still people who gamble secretly and clandestinely, this cannot be denied. I am sure this happens in countries that do not legalize gambling.

there are some people who want to gamble, but don't want to go to the casino openly or don't want to gamble from their devices because they are too bored and don't have any friends. so the best way is to gamble in a place with several people and make it like a get-together. in this way they can gamble secretly and at the same time interact with other gamblers. they also don't worry that there will be people who think negatively about them for gambling since they disguise the gambling as a normal get-together.

The gambling may be prohibited one to the religion,So they try to hide from their own religious people and religious relatives.The involvement of the gambling will leads to the major issue by their religious leaders.Most of the country based on the Islamic religion are prohibited the usage of gambling by their country citizens.The major reason for the restriction is the gamblers may loss their earnings and income in gambling if they play the game without good knowledge.If you want to play in the game,you should increase your gambling knowledge.Random betting in the gambling will not bring you huge money profit in long run.


But gambling is not the illegal one in all the countries,it’s illegal in some of the countries.If you are from such countries,you can use the gambling site which doesn’t need of the kyc.So your identity is not required in that gambling site.Their are many gambling sites in the forum with such criteria,So you can use such gambling site not to get into monitor of your government.As you said the gambling which causes fight in the streets should be avoided.Because some  street fights leads to dead due to claiming their winning money in the offline gambling.

It's very obvious those kinds of gambling are illegal and if caught by the law enforcers they will definitely pay the punishment. All those street gambling can sometimes lead to serious fight that could also lead to death of both gamblers or some random innocent individual who happen to be around the environment during the fight. Such gambling should be avoided because paraventure you run into any issue there is no one you can explain to that can resolve the issue, you might even get scammed by your fellow gambler without you doing anything because most of those gamblers are drug addict and that might be the source of their income.

Back when I was young I also did this kind of thing but in a different kind of game. Basketball shooting in the three-point line. This is an old-school type of gambling actually and we are also keeping the bets in a secure place, most of the time under the rim where the big stones are placed to keep the basketball court in place. A small cup is there where the money is placed and the only one who will get near it is the winner.
We do that kind of hiding because the police patrol always uses our street when they are roving. We won't easily get caught since the money is not in our hands and it looks like we are just playing a shooting game.
It's actually simple why they hide. It's illegal, and it could also mean the police taking the money and won't even arrest you and they will use it for their own. There are times it could go way above $10 pot since many are joining and that amount is huge 20-25 years ago and that's only for each round.

Sometimes it could be due to the age restriction a d for those who are below the approved gambling age and yet wants to gamble, you see that they actually hide so they don't get caught gambling and have to face repercussions for that,  there are also othe several reasons which could be on moral grounds too

It’s due to country general overview about gambling. Gambling in general is viewed negatively in my country since we have a very strong belief on religion. We bunch different religion here that shows how my country is a fanatic of having faith to deity.

I personally don’t want to gamble publicly due to my privacy. I usually gamble with huge bankroll which I’m not comfortable to show in public to avoid potential problem in future. Besides, what benefits you can get if you gamble publicly while you are just attracting criminals to do something bad to you when you hit a jackpot.

In general, it’s much better to gamble privately for safety purposes.

Most countries have laws and regulations to protect the public from illegal and unregulated gambling activities. Those people might be breaking some of these laws, so they are gambling illegally.

Yes, some of these laws are also used to protect the government from losing out on taxes and also licensing fees that has to be paid, if you are operating a legal gambling operation.

The rules and regulations also help to reduce gambling addictions, because the regulated casinos have to put measures in place to protect the consumers against them self. (You already mentioned that some of these people bet huge amounts, so they are most probably already addicted and nobody are there to help them.)

There are other people who wants to gamble alone and they didn't want to let other people see them doing that kind of activity, I bet that they want to gamble privately to avoid hearsays from other people specially from their relatives who talks a lot once they knew that they are participating in that kind of activity. Honestly, It's better to gamble privately so we can focus on our own game and to lessen the expectations and critics from other people.

OP, please ask directly the subjects you mentioned to get a more complete answer. Personally, I have a little speculation that it could be cases of gambling addiction, it could be people who are having appointments at the card game without approval,... I can assume countless other cases together. But anyway, it's their decision, no matter what form things take, I just want to remind them to pay attention to testing before every decision.

Yeah so many people bet or Gamble on different criteria just to win huge amount of money, probably why they hide to gamble might be that they don't want to showcase it to the public moreso such acts might not be authorized by most country so they decide to hide to do this and it's not a best way to gamble cause most people might see this pattern as illegal.
Like some of us that does ours through online sites and casinos some many others don't enjoy this online stuff but tend to do it with people surrounded whereby they share common minds together.

Most people who gamble will do so in secret because they know that gambling is very contrary to general society with negative impacts that will occur later.
And in my opinion there are still many gamblers who keep their gambling activities a secret from the public because it is very safe for them to carry out these activities and if family members or people closest to them find out then the gambler feels threatened. and it becomes a burden on his mind because he could get a warning to stop gambling again.

Many gamblers that I know feels more comfortable gambling in a private place, and I also prefer gambling in a private location too, I am from a country where you don't want the public to see you in a casino, people don't like minding their business over here, they won't forget when they see in a casino.

When the time is right they will use it against you, I have seen this played out a few times before so people are now hiding from the public eye, I have never entered into a casino nearby to gamble and that's why I prefer online casinos because no one will know that I am gambling.

Moreover a public place comes with lots of distractions, even if everyone is a gambler, I would like to be alone and enjoy my gambling activities instead.
