Family, religion and culture may also make people to hide as a gambler. I will use myself as an example here. My mom hate gambling and I do gamble. So most times I need to hide sometimes so as not be let her know I gamble. Some people also hide base on their religion. There religion doesn't support it so they hide to prevent people from knowing they do that.

This is something that we must always see, for example we have a social image of where we live, it is clear that we must always preserve some norms of coexistence and some aspects so that people accept them and see us as normal, exemplary people, according to the reputation that the person has, however we cannot stick to the normality of a society at all times, because at least for me it is something that the rules do not suit me very much, I like to play in a casino, and I or I say, as well as Some like to do other activities because I like caisno and if it doesn't hurt anyone then things are good and allowed, so when faced with these things we should always see things as they are From a normal perspective, those who want to hide their activity, I think each one will have their reasons.

Actually this mindset of evil and bad about gambling has been the reason why most persons have actually been unable to really hand gambling or even make it sometimes they are proud of telling people that they actually do engae in even when they know that they are making money off it but then because of the discrimination around it they seem not to be really proud about it and tend to keep it a secret.

Except amongst fellow gamblers most gamblers are very uncomfortable sharing their gambling habits because do the fear of been discriminated because of their habit but personally i see bad and good as relative because this thing which is now appearing bad to some persons is actually helping some others put food on their table so it's actually unfair to tag such as a bad thing when they literally don't take from others but only put their minds to work and eventually they get to win and then make money off it that is enough to help them assit the family.

Except for a few who actually don't get to control their selves enough not to get damaged by gambling, gambling in itself isn't a bad thing but these people are the once who makes it appears otherwise and cause others to get to think same way about gambling and making those who engaged in gambling appear irresponsible meanwhile they aren't as they can actually gamble and still stay responsible enough gambling.

People hide themselves from gambling maybe to be safe or because gambling is still illegal in their country. For example, gambling is completely illegal in my country. People who gamble from this country always hide themselves and participate in gambling. Like I gamble online sometimes I always hide myself and gamble safely One of the reasons why I gamble secretly is that gambling is totally illegal in my country Also I am known as a gentle boy in my country and area Now if I gamble. If I participate then people will see me as bad people will not accept my leadership. All in all, I participate in stealth gambling. There are many people who think like me and participate in gambling. Also I think it's always best to hide yourself away from gambling and resort to safe gambling.

The main reason people hide gambling is because they don't want to be claimed as a gambling addict by other people, because not every gambler can be called a gambling addict and people who see us gambling will have negative opinions about gambling activities, so it's better for us to keep every gambling activity a secret from anyone so that they don't convey untrue things to our family members.

There are countries where gambling in public is illegal and cops may apprehend them if they gamble in the open.  It is not because they wanted to hide that they gamble to other people but these people are trying to hide their gambling activities from the authorities to avoid being apprehended and jailed or fined.

For people who are hiding or keeping their gambling activities secret, it probably has something to do with the belief of people around them.  We all know that many people are not fond with gambling and those who are biased think that gamblers won't do any good.  So to protect their reputation, people who are into gambling keep it a secret from these kinds of people.


I used to hide my gambling activities to my parents but later I realized that there is nothing to be ashamed of engaging in gambling activities as long as we are responsible enough to not let our gambling activities affect ourselves negatively.  So, the once locked door when I am engaging in gambling is now open for my family to see what kind of gambling games I am playing.

This question is valid and common, anyone will definitely have a different reason hiding their gamble life from the public. Although the way most people view gambling is wrong cause the moment you say you're a gambler people look different and some might mistake you as an addict but this is wrong. I'm speaking from my experience or else I find no other reason or such gambler want to hide gambling cause of their kids or wife noticing, aside from what people will say and view I find nothing wrong that's why I prefer the online casino that involve your money and game only

This is also the reason why some people are better off hiding their tables when gambling and not letting anyone know what they are doing. Sorry to ask but are you Gen Z? This obviously happened in Nigeria and I can share you my opinion why they were hidden playing the WHOT. Sometimes in the early 2000s in Nigeria, when you are see around playing a WHOT game, the police usually arrest everyone involved because they believed that anyone playing such games are cultist, street taughts and drug abusers, this is what used to happened back then but things have changes and WHOT is not that interesting again because of the police arrested, parents hate to see their children playing them.

Yes it is and I think that is a common reason that most gamblers prefer to hide their gambling activities for that reason or because of the ban on gambling in their country, and the idea of hiding their gambling activities can avoid them from the bad eyes of society and also avoid the punishment of the country that prohibits gambling. And it is also true as you said that another reason is that they do not want to experience or hear criticism from people in their neighborhood about their involvement in gambling which can be mentally and psychologically disturbing for the gambler and may also make it difficult for them to build social relationships with people around them. I understand the people you mentioned who are loved by the gambler and they are the gambler's family or maybe his wife, and the point is overall I think we can conclude that gambling has a negative viewpoint in the eyes of society which when you are known to gamble then yes there may be criticism and it will not only be experienced by you but your family may also be affected.

This is quite true. Most gamblers that hide do it because of the fact that gambling is probably banned in their country or region. However another reason that some gamblers hide to gamble is also because of cases where a majority of the people around them are gambling haters and therefore don't like anything related to gambling activities. sometimes these set of persons could be loved ones of the gambler or even people who are dear to the gambler and since they don't want these people to notice that they gamble, the end up hiding to carry out gambling related activities.

OfCourse gambling is free for anybody above 18 years to participate, provided they have a free time and money. Wondering why people privatize their gambling attitude, is unclear to me, because players can decide to do things alone. It's easy to answer, many people says it's easy to do evils but hard to do what's good, and I could say while you start gambling newly you have also thought that gamble is a bad thing that's why you have to luck the door so someone from your family will not see you gambling, gamble is not bad to me but if I see someone who has become addicted to it, I would think that gamble is bad for only that person. I have also keep my wager as secret from my friends because I stake more than them some times.

Gamblers hide their gambling because people don't like gambling and if someone is gambling then nobody wants to allow their children to sit with gamblers as his activity will surely put adverse effects on their children too.

Gambler himself thinks that he is right but if we ask about him from his family then we will rarely find a positive response from his family. You will have experienced that most of the people hide their smoking from people around him because people don't like this habit so the same is the case with gambling that gambling acts like a poison for a person so that is why he keeps this activity hidden.

Some form of gambling is not taken as a good habit by most of the people. The social acceptance of casino based gambling might be much less than drinking.
There indeed are some degree of gambling in every society which are culturally accepted and is an integral part of the society. Sports betting too have a larger acceptance as people don't take it as real gambling. Lotteries, bingo and fair games too are not taken as serious gambling. When it comes to card based and high stake gambling, people have a different perspective. There are reasons too as they are highly addictive and high stakes mean you can lose a lot in short time frame.
Online gambling has made it much easier for people to gamble at their ease without the torture of society.

This thread also makes me think when I started to gamble on the internet, specifically on Freebitcoin, Stake and other casino I don't recall the name.  Even though I was over 18 years old back in this days, I tried to keep my door locked so nobody in my family would walk in and find me playing Dices or blackjack, among other games.
If you ask why I did such a thing, then I could not come up with a simple answer, I guess when someone starts to gamble, there is some sense of awareness one is doing something which is not advisable, but it could also depend on the upbringing I had (I went to a catholic school and whatever).
Later, I was started to grow up, I learn it is better to disclose that kind of activity to our family (in the case gambling is completely legal in the country), it helps to reduce the chances of becoming a gambling addict. Sometimes people overestimate the degree of stigma parents have on us. Fortunately, my family wound judge me for that, though, I still keep some of my specific wagers in secret (I don't give details), and my family won't ask much about it, as long as they know I am doing okey.

When things are for personal reasons, no one can get involved, no one can do Anything to prevent it, each of us has many things to resolve in our lives, there are things that greatly influence us, our family, our customs, religion, and even Politics are factors that make them want to hide , that is Something that must be respected and that must Always be Considered to make things better.

When I gamble, I can't tell the world that I do it, because no one knows who is listening, if they are a bad person and will think that you have enough money to play in a casino, then these types of things are what we As people we must be square, everyone can live their life however they want with respect to the casino and their way of Playing.

Personal reasons like that and most of the time they just don't want to feel they doing wrong and being criticized,  they hide because they want to feel the fun without any convictions,  just playing and nothing else, unlike when playing in the eyes of other people that kind of feelings where you are uncomfortable also leads you losing your money, so whatever reasons it's more on how you take and how you can have that confidence,  unlike before where gambling is being treated as bad habits but now, there are already gambler who already sharing their day to day experiences.

That is true and add to what you have said, some are hiding because they don't want their girlfriends, family members to see the in the act. Most of the gamblers are briefcase gamblers and all what they do is to dress well and go out to hidden places with gambling friends and gamble there till evening then came back home. And also gamblers who takes drugs also hide themselves. And communities and societies differ. They are some communities when someone is seen in gambling ground then he is also a bad person. So those communities that see gamblers as  bad people also making them to hide themselves in from the public.

          -    Of course, that's simple: they are ashamed that others know that they gamble because maybe they know each other well or what you said is right because of their dignity or reputation,  so they try to hide it instead of finding out, because if someone finds out when they tell the story to one, it is for sure that it will spread immediately like a virus.

That's the only thing I can see and think about why it's hidden or kept to itself, and that includes not being seen by minor children who aren't even adults to maintain being
a role model as an adult.
