Because it is the most well know currency that we can get in the internet and it will always be the number one among all, many people admires it therefore they love coins thats why it is the most popular.
Bitcoin is so popular because it is the first to go mainstream with everyone involved with cryptocurrency. Dogecoin may not be a scam but it is a shitcoin in my opinion. It does not substantially gain value over the course of its existence.

However, I could think of altcoins besides Dogecoin that aren't really scams although their creators may have profited, or if they were meant as a scam, they got out of their creators' control. Definitely it is because Bitcoin is profitable to its users and investors. The huge profit that a user is getting is what attracts the ither peope towards Bitcoin the most. Also, it is popular becsuse of its large market value compared to other coins. It already established reputaion in the market as the no.1 crypto which also makes it popular.Other altcoins out there have been profitable as well. In fact, its been keeping up with bitcoin. However, bitcoin has been here far more longer and I believe that there are more bitcoin adopters and users. As the first crypto, its gained more popularity. Well, you are right. Bitcoin is famous because it is the oldest of all crypto currencies ever made ij the crypto world. But for me, the way i see it, bitclin is famous not just because of its age alone. It is so famous also because of its great history and the great vision and conceot of the developer. Which is satoshi.
Amd regarding the altcoins, there really are a lot of trashy coins and scams. But some of them are truly legitimate and wuite cool. You just have to know how to identify shitcoins or scams so that you never lose profits.
