Sooner or later other smart contract platforms might take over ETH if ethereum foundation couldn't solve the network congestion they are having right now because of lots of ICO running at the same time.
Its because a lot of people says ethereum is the improved version of bitcoin and eth can do a lot of things than bitcoin with its big market and smart contracts vitalik really is a genius when he make ether, i think ethereum market cap will catch up to bitcoin few years from now a flippening will happen

In my opinion, it may be due to a lot of new Altcoins / tokens that use the erc20 or Ethereum platform. Well, this is what makes Ethereum special.
Ethereum is special for its applications. There's so much potential in this blockchain and that potential is only be ing realized.

Ethereum side chains are what makes Ethereum strong. For every token, there's a whole market behind it, and for every side chains there's literally thousands of Ethereums that are locked, minted, whatever you call it.
So, every time there's a new successful token that is released, Ethereum supply dries up. This means that the value of each of theses side chains is going to drive up in price, too.

Without Ethereum the majority of coins probably wouldn't exist right now. The coin has a fantastic future ahead of it, but like bitcoin they need to fix the sailing issues.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I think that's because Waves is still developing. Ethereum's gas fees are higher than Waves fees, I suppose.
Because in the starting time of ethereum many people and many user of crypto had used it, why? Because it is made by Altcoin for the altcoin to reach the level of bitcoin, and ethereum is now being known in the whole world. So it is very special.
You are right that many smart contract platforms exist but Ethereum has many things that these don't. First of all, ethereum has a HUGE advantage of having the first mover advantage, which places it in the spotlight. It's been the most widely used smart contract platform to launch many "successful" ICOs. Due to many of these factors, it has been able to expand and motivate their dev team to remain as a leader and constantly work on scaling issues and other upgrades to the system, as we are seeing with the current hard fork. Also, because of it's widespread popularity, they have been able to form a large network of affiliations with the EEA.
Its special from begining. I remember when Vitalik said Wellcome to the begining.
