I don't know for all people but most of the one i have come across are only interested in buying altcoins caused of the profit they can make from it. People were heavily into altcoins in my country during the last bullrun cause everything at that time turns out to be very profitable but as soon as the bear market kick in none of them are interested in buying or selling any altcoin again cause of the losses at that time, Only a few use it as an easier transaction of money across the globe and are still into it till now.
The risk is always linear with the return. Altcoins has a lot of potential to get higher return than bitcoin.
That why most people want to buy altcoins it's because of high return
And second bitcoin need altcoins to grow because bitcoin is just old blockchain network with very limited daily transaction per day

My main reason is bitcoin will not give me another chance to make bunch of money. You need lots of fund to make money from bitcoin while you can do that even with small amounts of money through altcoins. These days people were massively seeking profit from investing their money into the altcoins. i think that you shall aware that if the fact that if these days altcoins can give you more than bitcoin. Even if you were not a part of early adopters and you can still make like a few hundreds percents in less than a month which is good.
You have a point, in Bitcoin you need a good amount of investment before you start making good result, it's as well depending on the level of investment you put in, but for Altcoins since there are some that you can get at a very minimum rate, you can get as many as you can, then with the hope that after a while it will add value. so that at the end of the day you can make a good return in your investment.But a lot of investors will still want to stick with bitcoin, because of its longevity and how it has stood the test of time, it's more like bitcoin is tested and trusted.
With alts you can hit a jackpot very easy and quickly with a minimal amount unlike btc that you need a considerable sum in order to maximize your profit. Alts is high risk high reward kinda thing and most investors seems to prefer it than waiting years for their small investment on btc to become something meaningful. As long as you take into account the risk involved.
Another reason is that altcoins tend to have very cheap prices for each coin, moreover, quite a lot of potential coins have cheap prices. The volatile level is also very high and fast, so people can quickly take advantage of the moment with small capital. I also use altcoins more often than bitcoin in trading. This is because I think that it is easier to hope for the assets we own from $100 to $200 with altcoins that have low prices, compared to coins that have high prices. 
If you wanna trade then of course you need to buy altcoins, it’s a main reason people buy it to make profits, yeah BTC is the best investment in terms of risk, altcoins is high risk beside high profitable, i was trade with so many coins as like ETH,BNB,SOL,MATIC and a lot others.

That is the reason these projects don't survive till the next bull run or lose their cause of interest.

similar thought as yours op. Bitcoin is unbeatable but it need to gain a large marketcap to increase it value twice where altcoins can easily manipulated, hyped and could pump 10x within a day! So to grab more profit, public are ready to give most priority to altcoins investment but high gain indicates High risk.there's no guaranteed profit at all even very possible to get scammed overnight.
Bitcoin is unbeatable but altcoins can be life changer if we finally invested our funds in a strong projects. Making money from altcoins can be very profitable if we know how to invest in good altcoins that can be as far as possible giving us a huge profits like 100x. Many altcoins are hyped and mostly dumped so when we invest in them we should be ready to buy and take our profits without the plan to hold for a very long time. We are here to make profits whether little or big, we should not allow greed to make us to invest in altcoins leaving for a long time without taking our profits.

The reason why people are interested in buying altcoins Is the same reason why you are fascinated by them, high profit on a short term. There are many altcoins to choose from but very few has reputation that is close to bitcoin. You should be careful about the altcoin that you choose to invest in because most of them floats pump, gather momentum and fades, eventually dies with investors funds. The profit is high, so is the risks.
My advice is if you want to invest in altcoins, go for a reputable one that has stood the test of time like bitcoin, example is Ethereum. I won't take the chances at quick profit to risk my money on just any altcoin that looks promising, because from people's experiences, it's not a very good investment discussion.

Everyone has their own reasons of buying altcoins and many are afraid to buy altcoins not because of their price or the volatile of the coins but for the fear that the project will not last long, since the project is a centralized system, it is control by someone and government can intervene and stop the project at any time so with fear many distance themselves from altcoins and focus on decentralized coins like bitcoin. And I think that is one of the reasons or the risk involved in altcoins.
And I as said, if I am to invest, I will do that with ElonCoin. And if alternatively it will be Ethereum.

Yeah same reason as yours op. Why shouldn’t People show their interest with altcoins when altcoins creates highly profitable opportunity for them? Your biggest investment btc, that's fine and altcoins price always depend on bitcoin price.you have to believe that, a altcoins can pump a lot than bitcoin, within same time! Thats why people hold altcoins along with bitcoin! Risk is everywhere, no risk no gain op.
No risk, No gain I suppose, alot of person are aware of the risk that altcoins pose and are willing to take it even so because if you ask me altcoins are good profit givers especially in the bull season when they have started following the uptrend pattern of Bitcoin. That period is when most traders like gathering profits from the market especially from the good altcoins. But not the fact some altcoins do dumb so fast as they do tend to start pumping. If it's the right altcoins you picked. The thing is, experienced investors just pick altcoins when there's a shift in trend and then they use that to increase their Bitcoin holdings at the end because in the end Bitcoin will be the store of value. Indeed it is high R/R but as I've said pick the altcoins you want, research it more and that's the luck.

Right one reason everyone invests to get profit and also investment is essential to expand the business and become more profitable. Like you, I do the same, because the chances are also high that when you invest in altcoins and you have time for them to accumulate suddenly in the market, you can suddenly make a lot of money from them. But the risk that you can face is really high compared to Bitcoin, to be honest.
Then I seem to remember and I read this past 2017 that many people got rich in cryptocurrency during those times because of the altcoins campaigns here in the forum. Because of the altcoins at this time, when they pumped, it was also pure. That's why it was too much for the earnings of those investors in altcoins projects.
For me altcoins plays an important role in trading , which gives me a lot of profit from the previous two years. And also it offers traders some beneficial aspects, the way altcoins is behaving now is quite amazing, as I can say, it is on trending. I have also selected some better altcoins, I had invested previously.
