It's hard to accept that we lost, failed not get what we wanted, isn't it?

And when money is involved it takes too many extremes and that's the fun and exciting part why gambling is still existing even century after century.

Apart from that, we just get along with it, and don't realize what we are headed too until it becomes too late.

So, from your own understanding, what do you think makes people chase loses aside greed which I believe many of us are already familier with?.
Apart from greed which we all know as a factor which makes people chase after lose while gambling, other factors include the following such as;

1. Fear Of Missing Out: (FOMO), This is another factor which makes people want to gamble more, simply because they don't want to miss out when the jackpot is been won, as this set of people always believe that if they keep gambling always, they are likely to get hit when the jackpot is been won. Hence, make this set of people keep gambling with the mindset to win a jackpot someday.

2. The perception seeing losses as temporary and not permanent: Because when people start having the feeling that loses is not permanent, they always tends to gamble more, with the mindset that they will oneday win a jackpot since winning in gambling is not permanent, but rather temporary.

Hi everyone,
Here actually is my finding on why people chase loses in gambling, do you know that it's natural for a gambler to chase after his or her loses? Well, if you don't know, now you know, it is natural in the sense that ; the desire is inbuilt, it is we ourselves that learn to put or subject the desire to our control, same way it is natural to feel bad when you lose a bet, but you can be happy if you choose to, and can control your emotion.

One of the reason why many gamblers naturally chase after their lose is due to one thing that is built into every game known as the "near miss effect", after every loss, a near miss effect makes our brain believe that a win is very close, and this automatically makes the player to keep playing and playing, even while he or she is losing, his or her brain convinces itself that a jackpot is just around the corner, this makes the player keep playing until he or she discovers that his or her bankroll is empty, this is when anger and regret usually sets in, you begin to feel like you were not really yourself all that time you were gambling, like you were hypnotized or something, and you only regained consciousness of yourself when you have already gambled all your money away.

This has happened to me few times, and from it, I've leant to always be conscious of myself and my decisions while gambling, making sure I do not allow my brain to deceive me into believing that my losses is because a win is around the corner, making me to gamble way more than I've planned to.

So, from your own understanding, what do you think makes people chase loses aside greed which I believe many of us are already familier with?.

I find this article very interesting and, most importantly, necessary. Perhaps it will open many people's eyes to some of the things associated with trying to win back their winnings.
To answer your question, I will say that probably one of the biggest reasons is “almost winning”. I think that online casinos and slot machines use this quite a lot. That is, the most important thing is to leave a person with the feeling that he almost won. That is, a person begins to think that next time he will definitely be able to win money and win back his losses. This is what an online casino needs. A person begins to chase the illusion of winning, he thinks that next time he will definitely be able to win back.
I also consider the percentage ratio to be a serious reason. A person, having lost several times in a row, begins to think that, according to theory, he should soon win, but as a rule, these thoughts are not true and the person, as the author said, loses money

Well, what you said is totally true as a lot of gamblers fall into greed just immediately they make wins and when they loss they try to tame then selfs by saying that the next round might just be the jackpot. If one is lucky enough it's possible but if he is they he will only end up losing even more than he lost before.
As a gambler, you should be able to minimize your loss in any way possible and avoid being too greedy while playing. Aside greed, some people still chase losses to try get back what they had  lost. Some chase after their loss because they still have a lot of funds to keep trying. This is why addiction is always the endpoint.
When gambler starts developing the habit of greed, that's the exact moment that they began to chase their losses because they have make a habit. Few gamblers that's new to gambling don't know anytime they chase their loses they will lose more. However they don't understand the consequences of chasing losses that's why they intend to chase their loses. Some gamblers, after chasing their losses and when they realize they have lost more that's the moment they begin to make an amend, and before that it's might be late because they have lost enough money before them.

It is obvious that when you continue to lose in anything that you are doing you will not rest until you achieve something from the thing you are doing so relating it to gambling so it is obvious that whoever that is into gambling and always participate in gambling that much will you like to chase his losses, because the thinking that only one of their winning can recover whatever thing they have spent in gambling so that is why you see many people is always anxious or conscious of betting more immediately then losing gambling and that is what makes some people to become addicted in gambling based on there are chasing their loss
This is very common for gamblers who chase their losses at the gambling table, they want to continue playing in order to minimize their previous losses. It's best if the funds allocated from their salary have been used up at the gambling table, it's best to stop and not continue again, this will make you experience far more losses than before. You need to control your emotions and restrain yourself from continuing. Your mind is no longer clear when it comes to spending allocations for gambling funds.

maybe it's because of the emotional effect it has when you lose, I mean, we all know it feels bad when we lose so trying to win back losses could make us feel good if we succeed in getting back our losses but we all know the majority of the time that doesn't happen and we just end up losing more money and sometimes money we can't afford to lose.

anyway, this reminded me of this article(https://www.theplaidhorse.com/2023/04/12/chasing-losses-is-the-worst-gambling-mistake/) I saw months ago, they gave a short list as to why gamblers chase losses and they also gave reasons why chasing losses is bad for you and should be stopped.

As for someone who already has the intention for making money with gambling, you should always expect chasing after loss in other for such person to meet up with his budget, but the whole thing has been on a misconception because we cant chase after losses in gambling or make it as a means of income, when we are gambling, we are being involved on two things, to either win or lose a bet and gambling should be done as according to how we can afford for it, have fun and not to make it a means of making money except it comes in by luck

It's very obvious that many individuals still think they could beat the house, it's not possible, the house would always have the winning edge and the more they continue to chase loses they're likely to keep enriching the house. The best thing to do when one loses funds is to pause for a while, restrategise and play again later instead of chasing loses and losing more money to the casino owners.
In fact, because of the betting rate, addiction can work in many people. Continue to try to bet again. The pain of losing funds after losing a bet is very painful. He begins to prepare for the restoration of funds and resumes his betting competition. In this case, over-addiction can increase his chances of re-betting and losing more funds instead of recovering them.

That is what irresponsible gamblers will do, or I mean those who cannot take responsibility for their decisions, or I would also say that it is an action that will be taken by gamblers who are unable to accept defeat in their gambling so that in the end they are emotional and do not accept the situation and conditions of their defeat which ultimately makes themselves think of chasing the losses they have experienced, and maybe I would say that gamblers who are ultimately addicted are losers who always want to win but are not ready to accept the risk of losing.

This is why it is important to have a thorough understanding of what gambling is all about, don't just look at the odds of winning but also see and understand that gambling is a risky activity where every gambler is required to take a certain amount of risk and if you are unlucky then obviously you will lose, and this is also the reason why all gamblers are always advised to only bet the amount they can afford to lose.

Apart from being greedy, its ego, we always want to have something that we lose to recover, it is inherent and part of us being human, which is why gambling platforms are so attractive to humans because we display our emotions and we always remember our loses when we are playing instead of concentrating on how to have fun.

Some gamblers just can't accept the fact that casinos have an edge and it will play out anytime they believe in themselves that they can beat the house and once they had an initial success they will remember their losses and that's what triggers the motivation to try to recover their losses, that will eventually lead to more losses.
When it comes to losses, some gamblers cannot accept the reality.

First I'll advice any individual to bet with their spare cash so as to avoid getting emotional cause it's things like that, thst could make them to chase lose, many individuals can stand losing their funds and would seek ways of recovering it back thereby gambling again to try their luck and see if they stand a chance of winning back their lost funds but it's still very risky cause chances of losing more is more higher.

Yep, this reason might be the biggest reason that make people become addicted to gambling.

They thought if they keep losing, it means the future bet will win, while the truth there's no such algorithm or system that programmed to be like that. Every bet has a same chance to win or lose, the previous bet doesn't have any influence or affect the next bet.

Another reason is they didn't want to spend time and effort to get well paid jobs, so they live in miserable and don't have any skill to compete with other, which make them have to find "instant and easy" way to make money.

Curiosity, desire to try their luck, ambition, selfishness and so on, in fact they know very well, if they gamble again or want to risk their money again they will experience defeat, but they don't care about that, at least I've tried the umpteenth time to chase losses, even though in reality it could be bad luck.

Online gambling is a big temptation, curiosity is very big, most of the time it happens and I think, why don't I do it like this, that's after experiencing defeat, maybe if I try betting like this and in this game, maybe I can win, that's a human trait that is hard to get rid of, curiosity and wanting to repeat a disease that is hard to get rid of, apart from greed.

Example:
Like when someone buys a lottery, for example the number comes out 69, but they buy 96, it definitely comes to mind, why don't I reverse the numbers or buy two 69 and 96, I'll try again tomorrow buying two numbers at once, that's what often happens to most gamblers to chase losses.

Greed isn't always the reason behind why people do chase their losses, sometimes it could just be addiction they want to satisfy and so they just have to keep playing probably so they get to the point that they feel some kind of satisfaction which then the may eventually get to stop at that point when they have been able to to satisfy the addictive urge at that point, some times it could be that the losses have got them to loose almost all they have got on their bankroll and so the mind that they may have nothing to fall back to hence they decide to try again so they will be able to have a chance to recover their funds.

lastly i think sometimes chasing losses could result from the need to want to meet up a target they may have set although this may appear like greed but some how it has got a slight difference because some of this target could be such that could be realizable than some other that could be just really ambiguous an obviously greed inspired

But there are indeed many cases of people who experience large losses because they follow their greed, such as those who have won but are still not satisfied so they continue gambling to complete what they want, namely a bigger win. With the fact that in gambling, what is likely to happen more often is losing or losing money, it is not strange that they put money back into gambling because the winnings they have obtained are lost again, so they are chasing losses or want to recover losses that have occurred even though this is not recommended at all. very.

Even with those who have certain targets and do gambling, sometimes even though they have achieved the target they were aiming for or set, they may have the thought of continuing to gamble because by being able to achieve the target they want, it can make them feel that they are lucky so they continued his gambling. However, what is good is being able to control everything in an orderly manner. If the gambling has reached the target then the draw is the right action and come back another day, if you still want to gamble then you can withdraw some of the winnings you have obtained according to the capital or double the capital.

Natural indeed, I actually think this mentality start's from the biology of human life which is hardwired in our heads..but on the part of emotions I really can't tell because we have people that don't have them Tongue but am sure self control can be taught.

One of the reason why many gamblers naturally chase after their lose is due to one thing that is built into every game known as the "near miss effect", after every loss, a near miss effect makes our brain believe that a win is very close
If this was something to do with casino games, this strategy actually works but when it comes to sports gambling unfortunately your winning chances increase with single bets unlike accumulators.

Something I have learnt from trading is that, losing is part of the game and accepting this truth has elevated my winning position and for this I believe chasing loses comes from not accepting that you can't win everyday...we have good days and bad days , the earlier we understand this the better we protect our money.

Besides what you point out, it is human nature to take advantage of every opportunity presented. Some call it greed, some call it fulfillment, but whatever the name, there's a human side that wants to take a chance because this is how we evolve in our existence.

So many of our characteristics show up in how we gamble, but our failures in gambling in not understanding how the gambling platform works, thrive in tempting us to put our wants into action in gambling platforms so people naturally chase their losses in gambling.

I'd say it is a basic instinct of gamblers, that's why it is natural for gamblers try to chase their loses in gambling.
As long as we do it responsibly, there is nothing wrong to chase our loses in gambling.
Responsibly here means that we should aware that there is still no guarantee that we will be able to chase it so chasing loses should be done realistically and responsibly at the same.
For me, it is better to forget what we have lost before (although it is hard) but I believe it is better for my gambling habits so there is no chance for me to force myself to chase previous loses and become out of control.

Imo for a lot of people it is really hard to accept that they aint that good as they think they are. They keep on doing the same and failing (loosing) over and over again. I think the same idea is in many gamblers mind. I have lost? No way. Let me try this again. And they keep betting again and again. Add to these mentioned above greed factor and we a possibly true answer on the following question.

And all in the mind though, I mean if your decision is not clouded, then you know that you should stop right away if you lose in gambling. But as what the OP describe, there are games that really test our psychology, like the near missed effect. And for sure everyone had that experience in any games that we played. Even in sports betting this also exists this kind of effect to us. So we wanted to go back again and try to test if we are going to win or not. It's not about the greed, it's more on if we think that we can beat system because we "almost got to win".
