So, from your own understanding, what do you think makes people chase loses aside greed which I believe many of us are already familier with?

Chasing losses in a game most of the time only leads the bettor to "conquer more losses" and usually the result of this is a lack of money or even debt and stress, when in fact gambling should be something fun and healthy.
The main problem is that many bettors do not have the mentality and discipline of self-control, they prevent the player from understanding that defeats simply happen because that is how games work... this is statistics or the inprobabilities of a real world when We are talking about sports betting involving football, basketball or any other sport.

The best thing to do is to face defeats with humor, keep your head on straight and accept the loss, it will certainly be much less "painful" to accept this than trying to make amends and having to bear greater consequences... discipline and mentality necessary to become a professional bettor start with this self-control.

The causes of losses has no two reasons that to recover the losses, but the time of loss chasing is one of the time gamblers are most vulnerable to more losses. It is the time the money the person has in bank or wallet will all be spent and later followed by regrets. That is why we encourage gambling budget. It is better to go for gambling budget and let it be of little amount of money.

This kind of scenario also happens in online games where players spend lots of money to win the best items from what they call gotcha, they get this idea from gambling where people always chase their losses whenever they spend a small amount of money and end up spending a lot just to get the best items in games and that's why most of the MMORPG right now have this features, especially the Asian ones because they know how crazy these people when it comes to gambling and they made it clear that there were just after their players' money, not just a few of them rather they want it all to maximize their profit.

It's natural that you want to take revenge or get back at someone who punches you in the face right? It is what anyone would feel when they get hurt and I think that could be applied to the case of losing money from gambling. The scenario may be different but the reaction is almost always the same.

It's hard to accept losses and with that, we're forced to recover the money that we've lost and it's not all about greed but that's also a big contributor to it.

Another reason is the money that has been lost by a gambler could have been not his money at all. With that, there's a need to recover it or else he'll be the one to refund it.

But he won't lose money at all if they don't spend the money that they are not theirs. Sounds funny but this is happening in real life.

Yup. We naturally as humans lean in more towards winning than losing, so when encountering a loss, most, if not all (there's some special people out there) would most likely try to recoup it to the bare minimum if possible, and profit at maximum. It's nothing wrong, heck even if you lose a couple of times recouping I reckon it's completely fine imo. But just like in most things, there's also a limit to it. Recouping a singular loss from your gambling session should always be limited by what you can spend to try to recoup it, and not more. While it looks simple, it's hard for most people to handle. I'm pretty glad I learned how to handle limits early on really.

Other reasons can simply be that you have no more money left lol so you're trying to get back what you can. Or an emergency. They're more external than the idea that humans inherently try to recoup losses, but they can just sometimes be a front of sorts and the real reason is still us, trying to chase losses itself.

There are different reasons. One of them is the fact gamblers are still inexperienced with gambling, so they can't understand or believe why they are constantly losing the more they play, even though it seems really unlikely to hit long loss streaks quite often in theory. In practice, however, it happens more frequently than they would like. The first reaction might be a feeling of bad luck, and that it can be perfectly reverted if they try another time with a larger bankroll. So they keep trying twice, three time or more, always hoping that the next time the game's results are going to be different.

As we know, it doesn't happen, to they end losing a lot of money on the process of chasing losses. Anyway, it's expected that as soon as they finally understand the nature of gambling games, and that there is a house edge favouring the house on long run, they will stop playing or will decrease the frequency they play, besides changing their objectives towards gambling activity. If they aren't able to do that change, then I fear they might have already developed a dangerous addiction.

There is a reluctance in some individuals to let go of their money after they lose it, and come to acceptance with that reality, there is always this belief that if they try some more they will be able to win it back so they try to chase their losses. The decision to chase losses is based on emotions because there is the belief that you can get back your money but gambling decisions should not be made with emotions because emotions can make you loose more money while gambling.

Hi everyone,
Here actually is my finding on why people chase loses in gambling, do you know that it's natural for a gambler to chase after his or her loses? Well, if you don't know, now you know, it is natural in the sense that ; the desire is inbuilt, it is we ourselves that learn to put or subject the desire to our control, same way it is natural to feel bad when you lose a bet, but you can be happy if you choose to, and can control your emotion.

I think it’s mainly about the desire not to losses and in this case, it always seems like a lose over nothing. Yeah, a lose over nothing and you always tend to see the closeness to your wins. You get the impression that, it’s just that little mistake, that little decision not taken right and by the next game or next round, you would win. The next you know it, your in a game of chasing after your losses. Even when you add to your loses, it doesn’t matter, you just get convinced that your even the more closer and that’s never nice.
I’ve had to chase after my losses before, few times I did catch up but, at other times, it hits really bad. In times like that, you just have a different purpose for playing.

Chasing losses is something that people who look at gambling as a means to make a profit do. This is because before they start playing, they make a plan that when they put in a certain amount of money, they will obtain X amount of profit and by doing this more times, at the end of z days they will have a certain amount of money, so when they lose they start to see that they will not be able to reach the goal they have set, for example a person has 10$ and sets a goal that within 30 days they will have 40$ because every day they will play with 1$ and hope to win every day so that they can reach the goal. goal of $40. on the first day that person plays and gets it right, on the second day that person plays and loses. on the third day that person plays and loses

When that person loses everything that will cross their mind and they need to bet more the next day to recover today's loss and be able to meet the 30 day goal. People who look at gambling with the aim of making a profit, they are seeing gambling with real-world business, in their heads they don't want to see that they are completely different things. unfortunately, now for those people who play for fun, they can even lose and look at the bankroll being reduced and increase the bet value to recover the bankroll, in these cases although it is not good to chase losses, these are cases in which do not harm people much, worrying cases are the cases of people who look at gambling as a source of income

You have raised an interesting topic here for discussion and your points that you shared are based on true facts without any argument I totally agree with you. This same mindset make us who we are, which is the ability to never give up believing that a big win is on the way and it is closer than never. In as much as i have concurred with you bear it in mind that the same near miss also lead us to our glory. Same way one can continue see losses in gambling because if it is the same one can meet that jackpot waiting on the way. Many people have gone through this path with faith and has succeeded and many has failed as well. The conclusion of the whole matter is that if we gamble with our disposable funds then it is worth taking the risk but if it isn't such person should stop gambling.

You're absolutely right about the "near miss effect".  and how it makes people go a little nuts trying to win back what they lost.  I've totally been there before.  One time at a roulette table I was down a good chunk of change and  rather than being smart and leaving before I lost even more, I convinced myself that I just had to keep playing to try to get some of my money back.  Haha looking back now, that was just me falling right into the sunk cost fallacy trap - I should've folded and walked away instead of throwing good money after bad thinking my luck was gonna turn around.  But in the moment, it really feels like you're SO close and you just need one more spin to get back what you lost.  At least now I know better for next time! But man in the moment its hard not to let the near misses cloud your judgement.

One of the reason why many gamblers naturally chase after their lose is due to one thing that is built into every game known as the "near miss effect", after every loss, a near miss effect makes our brain believe that a win is very close, and this automatically makes the player to keep playing and playing, even while he or she is losing, his or her brain convinces itself that a jackpot is just around the corner, this makes the player keep playing until he or she discovers that his or her bankroll is empty, this is when anger and regret usually sets in, you begin to feel like you were not really yourself all that time you were gambling, like you were hypnotized or something, and you only regained consciousness of yourself when you have already gambled all your money away.

This has happened to me few times, and from it, I've leant to always be conscious of myself and my decisions while gambling, making sure I do not allow my brain to deceive me into believing that my losses is because a win is around the corner, making me to gamble way more than I've planned to.

So, from your own understanding, what do you think makes people chase loses aside greed which I believe many of us are already familier with?.

People don't like losing, because losing means they made the wrong decision and/or that someone else is smarter than them. That is a painful pill for some people to follow and what seems like the easy way to hit back in this scenario, is to walk away the "final" winner and get one over on the thing that has hurt your feelings. Except it doesn't really work like that and people end up digging a bigger hole. Some people also cannot accept that each bet is just based on math and is entirely separate from any past or future bet. They seem to concoct this imaginary scenario in their heads where their lucky break is always one roll away, they are owed a win and if they just keep trying it will pay off, but this sort of psychological trickery only makes casinos richer.

Pursuing losses is commonplace among those who gamble, and appreciating what the “near miss effect” means can provide an understanding of the depth of the psychological underpinnings behind this behavior. When one is on the verge of winning, their brain tends to see victory within reach, creating that illusion that triggers the drive to continue playing. This powerful illusion indeed can be very tough to break.

One simple way to combat this urge is to set limits, both in time and money, before you start playing any game or placing any bets and ensure you adhere strictly to these limits. Being self-aware and making decisions rationally are also key components that could help steer clear off chasing losses' trap.

Appreciating that losing is intrinsic to gambling and knowing when to cease are key components of responsible gambling. Players must acknowledge that the game is structured to entice continuous participation, hence, they should not succumb to the deceptive allure of imminent victories.

We are always our own enemies; the things that are not good often enter our thoughts when we let them control our whole personality. There is no end, and we lose immediately. And what often comes to mind is the phrase "CONTINUE TO PLAY, FOR SURE ON YOUR NEXT BET YOU WILL WIN," and we think that when we do this, of course we will recover our loss, a loss that started only for a small amount and eventually grew a lot.

So, this is where greediness has taken control of us, and we have lost control over ourselves and self-discipline, so it is important that from the beginning we do not let self-control and self-discipline be lost for any reason. We have a defense against these situations.

It is obvious that when you continue to lose in anything that you are doing you will not rest until you achieve something from the thing you are doing so relating it to gambling so it is obvious that whoever that is into gambling and always participate in gambling that much will you like to chase his losses, because the thinking that only one of their winning can recover whatever thing they have spent in gambling so that is why you see many people is always anxious or conscious of betting more immediately then losing gambling and that is what makes some people to become addicted in gambling based on there are chasing their loss

In some chases, they chase their losses simply because they need the money and they just gamble it with a hope that they can win big unfortunately for them, the result is different, this can considered as more of a desired to win than being greedy and they have no choice but to chase after it. This might be the natural reaction of a gambler if they lose their important money in an instant, and the problem here is not being greedy alone but also being irresponsible.

Chasing after loss happens as a result of the gambler failing to accept his losses, in otherwise, he or she fails or refuses to accepting being defeated. So they feel they can salvage something from not giving up at it. In consideration for me, I think this whole thing about loss chasing has a lot to do with discipline level of the gambler. So they do this not knowing until they are totally emptied with nothing more to stake with.

I guess people that go chasing for a recovery after some losses has been incurred, are gamblers that are without a deliberate bankroll limit, so they just gamble money beyond what they can afford to let go which is why they get bittered and pained thinking how can they actually walk away without trying more in getting it back.

It's proper that gamblers acknowledge the reality that losses are a related part of gamble, and it's for the good of the gambler that he/she accepts losses and walk off when it get to us (instead of chasing), just in same manner we accept wins when they happens. No gambler is immune to gamble loss.

OP, I really do like this post you have created here. You see, this post really depict the real condition or situation gamblers battle after losing games. It is natural that on every game, there must be a winner and there must be a loser but however, anyone who wins takes the trophy but anyone who loses, would want to try their luck again the next round to see if they could be able to win back and recover all that they have lost in the course of gambling but however, they have forgotten that the casino always ends up in the favour of the house which the possibility of they recovering  all is minuit hence they keep losing and losing till they have lost all their money.

I think self discipline is all it takes to call it an end to a particular session when the budget for that gambling session gets exhausted. Wether you win or you lose your game, self discipline should be the way out. However, irrespective of the fact that one have to exercise restraint, continuous gambling till recovery would always be the end resolve of every gambler. Till they get everything back, they would not quit but that is never the case. It is one thing that they never understand that they can never beat the house and can never win it all. Calling it a quit would only be the resolve to excess loss to gambling.

The hope of winning the next game is what makes most gamblers chasing their losses. I made a mistake in the last game if not I could have won it  is what comes into your mind. I think that should be the spirit of addiction which keeps on telling us to play more, or will I say that it is the spirit of greed.

I have fallen victim into this several times, but I will tell myself that I should let go of it, because I will still run at loss again. That is how I use to overcome such thoughts when I have reached my gamble budget for the day.
On the moment that you are already;

1. Tending to chase up your loses
2. Trying to breakeven
3. YOLO bets
4. Emotional

Then this is the start of a disaster. You cant really be able stop midway and self control is something that cant really be possible on this one.
We do know that gambling should really be just that for fun, use up on the funds that you can afford to lose and since this is really that speaking about leisure
then it would really be just that normal that losing is inevitable.

Dont tend to chase up with those loses because this is where people usually mess up their lives on the time that they would really be
trying out to chase up something which we know that it is really that nearly impossible to be on such condition.

It will take good understanding to always overcome this because most gamblers believes if they continue gambling they will quickly recover all their loses even after losing so much in gambling. The reason why some gamblers keeps playing even after losing so much is because they do not understand gambling and they have the a wrong mindset of thinking loses can be recovered if they continue playing.  When their is a better understanding about gambling their is this consciousness that you would have to just quit gambling after so many loses.

The truth is that people always have this belief in gambling that it can give them want they want and they believe that it is possible for them to get back their money on the game the lose.
