Lost is something constant in gambling and it doesn't change over time, it's natural thing that happens regularly in gambling and when they are losing it's left for them to apply common sense knowing too well that by the more you try to prove yourself as someone who is to close winning the more likely you gets too closer to losing your money continually, so what is more as gambler when you have experience short lose it's best time to entire stop instead to keep gambling and lose more money.

Some of them are like, no I can't keep losing every day so let me try to recover at this point they don't know when they are engaging themselves into compulsive gambling and this is the most dangerous types of gambling where you would try to make sure you recover what you had already lost previously.

Like I do bet myself, whenever the money for the week/month is being exhausted then I close my gambling till the account is being refilled before I will engage myself again or whenever I noticed that there are pure games that seems to be nearly winning, maybe I noticed that I could win when I bet then I don't mind to gamble even as that my gambling plans didn't change at all.

The hope of winning the next game is what makes most gamblers chasing their losses. I made a mistake in the last game if not I could have won it  is what comes into your mind. I think that should be the spirit of addiction which keeps on telling us to play more, or will I say that it is the spirit of greed.

I have fallen victim into this several times, but I will tell myself that I should let go of it, because I will still run at loss again. That is how I use to overcome such thoughts when I have reached my gamble budget for the day.

Hi everyone,
Here actually is my finding on why people chase loses in gambling, do you know that it's natural for a gambler to chase after his or her loses? Well, if you don't know, now you know, it is natural in the sense that ; the desire is inbuilt, it is we ourselves that learn to put or subject the desire to our control, same way it is natural to feel bad when you lose a bet, but you can be happy if you choose to, and can control your emotion.

One of the reason why many gamblers naturally chase after their lose is due to one thing that is built into every game known as the "near miss effect", after every loss, a near miss effect makes our brain believe that a win is very close, and this automatically makes the player to keep playing and playing, even while he or she is losing, his or her brain convinces itself that a jackpot is just around the corner, this makes the player keep playing until he or she discovers that his or her bankroll is empty, this is when anger and regret usually sets in, you begin to feel like you were not really yourself all that time you were gambling, like you were hypnotized or something, and you only regained consciousness of yourself when you have already gambled all your money away.

This has happened to me few times, and from it, I've leant to always be conscious of myself and my decisions while gambling, making sure I do not allow my brain to deceive me into believing that my losses is because a win is around the corner, making me to gamble way more than I've planned to.

So, from your own understanding, what do you think makes people chase loses aside greed which I believe many of us are already familier with?.

I think the thing that make most people go after gambling including me,is the fact that they think they were so close and that maybe this next time will get them the right win.In fact I saw some guy winning like 0.37 Bitcoin in Le Bandit slot machine from Hacksaw exactly a few minutes a go that made me want to try so hard that game and I immediately lost like 50 dollars (750.000 IDR) playing with min bet 1000 IDR,a freakin addictive game to say the least with the bonus going so high but also super volatile game as in the beginning it gave me and over 550x multiplier in normal game and then I lost everything without even hitting the bonus a single time,my conclusion here is that when you want to play such slots play with a huge bankroll. This for me is the thing that makes most gamblers coming back.

You know there are many other minor reasons why people can keep chasing after loses but there are also considered or categorised into one major reason which is greed but we can identify them one after the other.
Just as you have described OP, I can as well say peer group influence can lead to chasing after loses, I haven't been a victim of that in gambling but I've been a victim of peer group influence in a way that it can relate to addiction or chasing losses. For instance if one keeps company of gamblers who are steadily gambling either making profit or not but as long as results are showing it usually creates an urge for the person to also feel among. If in a group almost every one is making good cash out from gambling, the one person left out will find it necessary to prove him or herself not worthless than others hence the competition can keep one gambling gradually without knowing and when they realises how much has been lost, they will immediately start chasing the lost funds out of the competitiveness in such company.

It's inherent for man to always want more hence this more leads to so many things which includes chasing losses in gambling.

The most important is greed and nothing much over there, okay just come to think when a gambler would keep gambling and his brain keeps telling him that winning is around the corner and is very bad to think about that why because as a gambler you should set a limitation to yourself where you won't allow anything else to distracts you after having played to your required amount, mostly when you are losing and immediately you noticed you are on -50 or -70% of you funded wager then you should quit and never play anymore otherwise you could end up emptying your account.

So, from your own understanding, what do you think makes people chase loses aside greed which I believe many of us are already familier with?.
Some people chase their losses in gambling because they have gambled with money that they cannot afford to lose and so they try to get it back. Money can be kept in the custody of someone and because of how tempting odds can be, they may decide to double some of this money in their custody to keep the other half. In trying to do so, and the person losses some of that money, there can be the temptation to try to gamble back with some more money, this time not to take the other half, but for the other half to replace what has been lost.
On the time that you are using up some funds on which you cant really be able to afford to lose in gambling then high chances or tendency that on the time that you would be losing up those amounts, then you would really be definitely be having that kind of mindset that you will really be trying out to breakeven those loses or trying to get it back on which means that the sense of recovery or chasing will really be there.

This is why it would really be better that you should really be that sensible or wary on the actions that you are making because if you do make yourself that being getting blinded with those delusional approach towards on things then it would really be likely ending up on a disaster. This is why its important that when dealing up with gambling then you do already know the risks that you are involving into.

Gamble for fun and always that be anticipating that you would be losing in the end of the line. You should be thinking that the amount that you are spending is already lost on the time that you do
ideposited your funds into the platform or simply its automatically considered to be gone already. Set your mind on that way then you should be just fine.

In my own side of thinking,  I do think this is because naturally no one wants to be loser in almost everything we do, even when we know fully well in some certain case we will lose, even in any given competition we found ourselves where you know very well that our opponents are way far better than us, we still want to be a winner, Same is applied to gambling, let alone the fact we bet our money, who wants to be a looser? Because of this we find ourselves chasing our to ensure we never become the looser and in this process majority of gamblers usually get wrecked.

This sound exactly like greed to me - I agree with the fact that all human are built to always chase after something they have lost and try to regain it back but not all of them have that mindset to get more after they have successfully regained what was lost  - only a few of them who feel that luck might still continue to be on their side they are the ones that end up losing everything.
I do not see this as greed if we are talking about gambling. What I see that is greed in gambling is not when a gambler is losing already and chasing losses. We call that chasing losses. But what we call greed is when the gambler has won significantly some amount of money. Instead for him to quit, he will continue to gamble. Later the game might not favour him and loses all the money won and also loses his own money.

I have always known that chasing losses comes naturally to every gambler but I didn't know that there is a cool relation between it and the near miss effect. I used to attribute the chasing losses rather to the sunken cost fallacy. Which is that the in The Gambler will keep gambling because the believe that they have invested too much money to quit even after a loss. In all chasing, losses is all psychological.  It is all in our minds whatever we say to ourselves that make us go back to chase our loss is all in our head and it is not true.

There are several scientific research on the concept of near miss effect which means it is indeed one of the causes of loss chasing and even gambling addiction. It is a cognitive distortions that give gamblers the false hope that the next game will be a massive win. One of the reasons for chasing losses is peer pressure. I have been in a physical casino where some friends kept motivating a boy to keep gambling because they believed he was close to winning. Sometimes friends or family members could be the reason why people are spurred to keep gambling. Another reason I can think of is when someone is under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Abuse of substances can distort the mental condition of gamblers and make them think that their win is close.

If someone takes something from you, you obviously will object and will likely take it back. The problem is that when we get it back we want more thinking we got it back easy so we might as well win easily. Getting even is not enough.

Back at the Op, I have always knew this but this is the first time that I have heard that the whole process do have a name - I have always think it’s just something that not of that much significance I never knew it was that much of a deal when it comes to gambling.

It's simple, we like to win, and when it comes to gambling profit means win, losing money means losing... So we are competitive and we will give everything we have in some moments just to win and prove that we are "better" than the opponent. In gambling, we are ready to spend the last dollar because even if we are on some long losing streak we still believe in the "last seconds" win, like with all other games.

Of course, not all people are the same, some are less competitive than others, but I believe that we all have it in us, desire to win in whatever we feel passionate about. I guess that we all feel passionate when we gamble, in some moments when we get "deep into the game" and excitement is at its maximum... we are focused on the win and we probably feel that the winning hand/spin is so close.

You're right. There's this belief that you might get it next time and if you refuse, a part of you will constantly hunt you with something like "What if the next one is your lucky bet". I believe this happens to every gambler. You're betting and you're losing, but you just go ahead believing one win and you've recovered all your losses and that makes you constantly placing more bets.

I don't really know if it's always greed. Greed to me is when you just can't get enough. You keep wanting more. While greed may be the cause of some people chasing their losses, some just want to recover what they've lost, that's not greed is it?

The goal of getting back the loss seems a natural reaction as you say. If someone takes something from you, you obviously will object and will likely take it back. The fact is that it's normal human nature to avoid losing and most especially try as much as possible to make sure you win instead of losing. However some gamblers make the mistake of taking this too far and serious to the extent that the ruin their finances.
A majority of the time, gamblers often describe gambling as a fun activity and still end up taking it as serious as their pay job. The problem such individuals face is because they fail to view gambling in the right approach and are also unable to properly manage their funds and spending habits during Gambling activities. Chasing losses and trying to by all means to hit a huge jackpot that will eventually boost the gambler from his status of loss to a gross win, is what makes some persons run into losses because they begin to stake blindly in most cases.

The causes of losses has no two reasons that to recover the losses, but the time of loss chasing is one of the time gamblers are most vulnerable to more losses. It is the time the money the person has in bank or wallet will all be spent and later followed by regrets. That is why we encourage gambling budget. It is better to go for gambling budget and let it be of little amount of money.
