The only thing that limits electric cars is the batteries, or the cost of batteries, and that's how it has always been.

People are so uninformed when they say that electric motor technology needs to improve. It improved in the 70s to 90s with solid state variable speed drives, but even that is a small issue. Brushed motors worked just fine bofer that.

Will the electric car destroy petrol car?
There is major portion of society which will not afford the electric car. I think the electric car will make comport in our lives but there is a space available for petrol car also. Petrol is also a powerful fuel which are mostly consuming in machines.

With the temperature of the world getting higher and higher each day, switching from the fossil fuel powered cars to the electric car is the only to go or we will be dooming ourselves and the next generation if we don't do something about it . China has already said that they will be transitioning from gas powered cars to electric cars which in my opinion is good for the entire world, I hope other countries follow suit as well.

In short yes, it may take some time to reduce the cost of the battery technology but it's advancing quickly already. Some manufacturers such as Volvo will stop making petrol cars by as soon as 2019. Norway is banning all petrol cars from 2025 and a number of other European countries are working towards similar goals.

Absolutely yes , Electric car will replace today's environmentally hazardous car. According to me, This replacement will save many of the creatures from becoming extinct. Electric car one of the best invention of our era.

If so then why are golf carts so horrible?

I think that we can make a change or initiate a change in how we do our transportation. Yes, there is a strong case and call for greener living but scientists are also concerned on how people are getting caught up with green energy that we do more harm to the environment by pushing for its creation.

The world oil mafia have been making sure a thing like that wouldn't happen. And they will continue to do their best. It's hard to imagine what it would take to really be able to fight them on this and win... Even if it happens and russians, arabs and corporations all over the world are somehow made to lose, it will take dozens of years. Am I too sceptical, though??

It is evident that in the light of the fraud of the various manufacturers, particularly Volswagen concerning the emissions of fine particles, the future will want to decentralize the production of energy.

Again, the notion of decentralization plays, rather than having all the means in the production car, an electric recharge and the case is made.

The problem still comes from batteries. Harsh to recycle, but also relative low efficiency times.

Inevitably we will evolve in the right direction, but an electric car does not mean clean. Energy is necessarily produced somewhere. Are these power stations cleaner than their FUEL equivalent? There is the question.

Trams already work like this

One of the things that will impede the electric market is scalability. The electrical grid can handle the current load put on it by electric cars but as more are sold major upgrades will need to be made. Consumers will get stuck with the bill and that will create push-back against electric cars.

Also gasoline and diesel fuel provide a lot of tax revenue. Somehow governments will have to raise money they lose in gasoline and diesel taxes. Politically it might be easier for government to discourage electric usage then to enact new taxes to make up for lost gas taxes.

Finally if electric cars start to reduce oil prices it will make gasoline and diesel cars cheaper to operate discouraging further electric car adoption.

I used to think it would be impossible for electric cars to truly replace petrol cars mostly because of the debilitating limitations of electric cards. Then Tesla arrived in the picture to prove me wrong. Seriously, it's ridiculous how they're so far ahead of their competitors. Every car will be like Tesla in the future.

Lithium ion battery cars can compete with gasoline cars when gas prices are above about $2 per gallon, but if gas prices go below that then they're losing money. That's with fairly light short range cars too. Other countries allow high efficiency diesel cars on their roads which adds even more competition to electric cars. Diesels cost less than 2/3 to operate that gasoline and the engines with manual transmissions last a very long time. A lot of it depends on city versus highway driving too. Electric cars show most of their advantage in low speed city traffic.

If a car gets 30MPG, it uses 1/30th of a gallon per mile. At $2.50 gas, that's $0.08333 per mile. After 150,000 miles, that's $12,500 in fuel.

150,000 is probably a high estimate, but electric car like the Tesla or the Chevy volt might do 150,000 miles before battery replacement is needed. The replacement for such a battery is over $10,000 I believe. Currently these batteries are being replaced under warranty so the exact cost is difficult to know.

The Nissan Leaf does about 70 miles on a charge, and assuming a cycle life of a bit over 1000 charges, that's about 70,000 miles and a new battery is around $5000.

So you're not really gaining much with gas prices under $3 per gallon using lithium ion. There are lithium iron phosphate cells that have twice the cycle life and a bit less capacity, but I don't think they're currently being used in any electric cars. You also have little heat and air conditioning available in an electric car if you want to have maximum range. They could probably add a propane or heating oil heater to the car though.

I didn't account for maintenance like oil changes on engine powered cars, but I didn't account for electricity costs for electric cars either.

Depends from the minimal price they can afford to make it if we are talking about world wide price. Price in America which is "cheap" is 35k $ for Tesla. But in some other countries 35k $ is a lot. You can buy house and live more then 10 years with that amount of money(yea i get it inflation). In some countries you can buy petrol cars(NEW) for 7k $ and they are really economical in therms of fuel usage(5l per 100km). If they manage to make electrical car < 7k $ . And everyone can afford it maybe it will WIN. But there is a long way to till we come to that point.

to economically may be able to compete with gasoline. but for performance may still not be able to compete. it takes time to do research in advanced electric car engine technology, certainly will be very good news and interest by many people.but if that happens, maybe the price of gasoline will decrease because it's a bit of wear and will make the price of oil drastically decreased. it will make the company go bankrupt. but very good at least the use of gas for backup in the future. it all depends on your decision in choosing for an economical price

Britain’s car industry has warned that the government’s proposed ban on sales of new petrol and diesel cars by 2040 risks damaging the industry and stalling sales of new cars.
Mike Hawes, chief of executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders trade body, said that carmakers were working with ministers on the switch to electric cars but called for the government to use carrots rather than sticks.

We all know that the main disadvantage with the electric car lies in the expenses. The capital cost and maintenance for electric cars are much higher when compared to diesel or petrol cars of similar configuration. Another major issue is the battery replacement, which will cost you a fortune every 3-4 years.
yeah,
New materials and electromagnetic technology or will make the cost of unimaginable, mankind will eventually get rid of the shackles of gasoline
