There is really not much justification for more MS OS'ms. Are there any essential things that Windows 7 and 8 contain, that XP does not?

Minor updates and bugfixes would be sufficient. Instead there are major releases which are bloated with graphical gimmick that just waste system resources but add nothing substantial.

Windows 8.1 actually brings back the start button!
What other option they had other than bring it back..! Who ever took the final decision on getting rid of start button on win8 was not as wise as he/she thought ..!
The guy who took that decision isn't working for Microsoft anymore now, isn't he?
I think he still is in Microsoft..! but to answer more precisely it will require a lil research before claiming somthing.. and at this point of day i'm tired and not in mood of doin any research work..! so anyone who has a proper knowledge about the subject can answer ..!
I believe Chaitanya Sareen (article) still works at Microsoft. I believe one of the managers behind Windows 8 left, I must be mistaken.

Once you go Linux you wont go back.

I hate Linux, but I have to use it at work... Sad, at home I use windows.

What do you hate about it and prefer with Windows?

It is harder to work with many files and folders open.

And maybe I have just used to Windows.

Grin no, even on a desktop without touch screen I seem to be more productive than with the traditional start menu. Sometimes I do miss it and get sentimental though.

Windows 8.1 actually brings back the start button!

Yeah, read about that and Ima try it on a box that I should update.

Thanks for the tip!

My $.02.

I really really like desktop Windows 8 after the last two updates. At work we have a few tablets with it: works like a charm!

Yeah, I suppose so if you have a touch screen.

1- While windows XP support is officially dead, I think 70% of ATMs and bank servers world wide still used it and they'll still get support they'll just have to pay for it

2- Windows Vista wasn't shit, people machines were shit, a Windows Vista Pack2 runs as well as a windows 7

3- I don't use windows 8 I've tried when it came out and it was an annoying experience, but MS seems to be getting it shit together right now, with the next 8.1 update 1 I might move to it and give it another try

Sadely MS dominance will not end anytime soon

Yeah, I have an Acer lap running Vista and it does things quite nicely!

You use Windows 8? Weird... I recently heard a joke regarding it: Windows 8. Because there are only 8 people using it Cheesy. Back on topic, It's not that bad that Windows XP support was cut. They've delayed the cut for so many times and Windows 7 is a pretty decent system to continue the Windows dynasty Cheesy.

Oh, God no, I don't use it on any of my stuff but recently helped a freind set up a new laptop with 8 on it.

Hate Window 8 with a passion now!

My $.02.
