Been asked several times about repairs so I thought I'd throw it out here for everone to see:

I will try and repair any card someone wants to send to me.

If there is no major damage to it... I.E. scorch marks or tons of missing capacitors I charge $20 to look at it and I charge an extra $20 if I can fix it.

The buyer pays shipping both ways.

Things I repair:

Artifacting graphics cards

Cards that won't cut on

Missing Capacitors

Blown capacitors

Broken fans... etc.

Some repairs may be more but I will allways tell you before you ship it to me

I use a hot air gun, heat pencil/mini heatgun, and a calibrated oven to do reflows depending on what is required.

*** Please understand that all repair solutions are not created equal and that the likelyhood of my repairs working depends greatly on the problem with the card***

The chance of my fixes working also greatly increase with the ammount of information about the card I recieve beforehand. High resolution pictures of any damage are also a necessity.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Given a description of the problems and pictures of any damage I can usually give you a rough estimate of the likelyhood of my being able to repair it.

I also make no guarantee on how long repairs work. It is impossible for me to warranty a video card that is several years old. I do however guarantee the card arriving back to you as I described it (whether repaired or not). Pictures are allways great ideas for both ends of a transaction.

Thanks guys,
Andrew

How much do you charge to fix video cards? I have a 5970 (not one you gave me) that will sometimes have a red light come up underneath the board by the PCI-E power connectors after some time of mining (maybe a minute, maybe an hour, maybe a week), and it freezes the entire computer, need to hard power off the entire computer before its detected again.

Just kinda fishing to see if its worth sending it out for a real reflow instead of baking in my oven (I still dont know if 8 minutes at 400F is working for me or not).

Edit without bumping: Hopefully, I may have jumped the gun about the gpu's actually going bad. I found one of my PCI-E power splitters taking on a brown tinge. I examined it closer and 2 of the 12v wires were darkened significantly. The middle wire was flawless, so power was probably only being supplied through 2 hot wires compared to 3 cool wires. Good thing I have lots of spares and also redid the wiring on that miner so all the 8 pin power plugs come directly from the power supply and the remaining 2 PCI-E power plugs get split into 4 and plug into the 6-pin power receptacles. Hopefully that works out better.

I have successfully conducted a transaction with AndrewK.  He's a good guy, so no escrow was required.   Smiley

5870 which does nothing. I don't know what's wrong with it. It doesn't have a fan anymore and I'm pretty sure there aren't screws left for the reference cooler.

5970 which is not recognized and there's no picture of course. Green lights go on on the GPU so at least some parts of are working.

5970 with a wrong bios and two small parts removed (parts that contain the bios, I still have them)

I'll be moving a lot of cards in about a month. What's your timeframe for buying? A few with broken fans that I haven't gotten around to ordering replacements for. 6950s , 5970s, 5870s and 5830s.

I was prepared to create some gaming rigs and sell them for the holidays, but things are delayed and GPUs are still barely profitable, so on they go.
