Hey Everyone!

I have sad news. I was scammed. And being naive and not knowing enough played a role at this. Also greed was in this.
There is a user named BobbyL and he also goes by Michail1. He was looking to buy a large quantity of XC. We talked and he agreed to buy everything I had because he was offering me 3.5BTC for 1500 XC. 1500XC was my total amount I had been saving since June. I've been buying a few here and there every week (especially when it was cheap back in June).

He setup a wallet on blockchain.info with a username and password with 3.5 BTC in it. When I logged into the wallet to check, I saw the BTC. I didn't get the private key to transfer funds out. He told me to send him the XC and I will get the private key. Well, I sent the XC, but he never sent anything and changed the password very quickly. This person wont return my emails. His email is [email protected] - He goes by Michail Hoffman.

I lost my life savings. 4 months of saving XC and it's all gone due to greed for some quick turn around cash. I feel bad. If anyone knows how to get my XC back, please help.

Argh. That's awful. So sorry to hear that.

What a bastard.

Next time use an escrow service you trust (localbitcoins.com?) or make the other party take the risk.

or... next time use BlackHalo (Trustless Escrow) it if fantastic and free.  I have used it.
http://blackhalo.info/

p.s.  it can also be used with bitcoin ie bithalo.  The client is now one piece of software with both options for setting up a contract with bitcoins or blackcoins

Nigeria doesn't have a prince, it has a president.

True, but Nigerian phishing mails which this meme is referring to always comes from a Nigerian prince who just needs you to send him your bank details so that he can transfer his wealth to you. But instead they end up emptying your bank-account.

The global injustice is that some people in the west have more money than they deserve. These scams are a natural marked reaction extracting the wealth through weak points in this system where a person born in the west is worth more by birth right than anyone else in the world.

I completely understand. I would doubt it too. But I want to be clear that it was my fault. I only posted the information so no one else gets scammed. Nothing more. I was greedy and I got hurt. My fault.

I just wanted to say that i feel sorry for your loss too. It's always sad to read these kind of things. But i would also like to congratulate you for your maturity in taking responsibility for your actions and not blaming others. It's a loss alright, but XC is pretty cheap now too and i believe it will go much higher so not a big deal if you buy back in now at 130K instead of 100k or so. Just my 2 cents...cheer up and recover your losses as soon as possible mate.

I dont understand the obsession with a FIAT / XC market, surely as long as we can get FIAT / BTC onto all the exchanges in multiple currencys then you can then use your BTC to buy XC.. Why do we want XC fiat market?
Because we need commerce & sellers want fiat

Volume has been dead over the past few weeks. Not a good sign. Sad really XC has so much going for it. Still holding. Not sure for how long.

The same can be said for nearly every altcoin...

Yeah, except perhaps today's latest crap scam coins lol:-)

Means nothing bad at all for XC or any of the other very few promising alts!  I know I won't be selling any of my XC or the few others I have in portfolio that offer such promise!

yea I would be really surprised if you see much action in alts with bitcoin plummeting. It would actually make no sense for XC to be going up while BTC plummets simply because XC is dependent on BTC as a trading pair. If one loses extreme value in a short period of time like BTC has, expect little to no activity in altcoin prices and trading

Has anyone tried withdrawals on mintpal?  Are they working?

How about 2FA?  Do they have that enabled?

My withdrawal went through. Took a bit longer than usual. I successfully enabled 2fa as well.

Thanks for the info.  Mintpal v2 looks pretty sketchy.  I'm moving coins off there asap.

It's sad -- because that was XC's main exchange.  I wonder where XC volume will move to now?
