Something i wanted to say

Have been an emotional supporter since day one. But the state of affairs in here are pressing me to second thoughts. I mean what exactly is happening here? Mew making their own shitty forum while core team forum is nothing to talk about. No clear idea which website belongs to whom and where should we go to find info. And the prehistoric site designs dont do much to engage anyone.

Where is the community, where are the ideas, what is happening actually?

Only one thing i know, the db is coming and it is coming . Sigh
Dont tell me it is in testing. Where are the repeated requests by the devs to test it

These are harsh but true words. We need to Organise. We need to streamline and stop playing games.

Here is what i want to happen -

Change the mew name to Monero Foundation, the foundation will have voting to select new members, irrespective of their holdings.

Only two groups. The Foundation and the Core Team

We need a new good looking website.
We need a new good looking forum. No scratch experiments. Who got the time for that. Time is of utmost value in these times of competition.

These will be the official sites. The foundation will have a separate site and can have a private forum. Dont need two forums.

The core team needs to clearly define a timeline of things to be developed. They need to stop wasting time and pick up one thing at a time and work collaboratively on it.

To the extent of my knowledge we need the db and then the gui. We should focus on these goals only

Then the question arises of funding - there is no other way but to invite funding. So the real question is why will people fund us. We need a service like mymonero which we can sell shares of. We need to brainstorm some ideas.

All in all a scam called darkcoin is ahead of monero just because they are organized, focused, swift

I took the oldie because I'd like to hear if you are satisfied now Smiley

If you want things accomplished, you can:
- Donate money to the centralized core team, and they will think and then do it (note: you have to donate money)
- Join MEW and do the things yourself in a decentralized way (note: you have to do things yourself)
- Buy XMR, because the uptrend has started and we are still in the very cheap accumulation zone (note: you need money to do it)

My vision is that we need perhaps one more spearhead, the MiG, to concentrate on the investment case and that alone. It is a MEW project because it originates from MEW members and concerns Monero.

DB and GUI are coming, but neither is in any way necessary, for the people who are non-techies, like I am. We have mymonero.

The core team has outlined what they will do next, and the MEW is not centralized, so cannot make such plans anyway.

If someone wants to buy shares of mymonero, just contact me.

It's more periwinkle / brown.

PS. I really like the colour scheme on MyMonero.com. Those are great colours for a holistic theme.

I personally think he'd be a big fan of the Cryptonote technology and ring-signatures.  And all crypto-anarchism in general.  Although don't think he'd be so quick to put his name on any single project.  Even the support he shown for FairCoop was very distantly.  Like many very early bitcoin supporters from when it really was a grassroots movement.  Even much smaller than the Monero community today.  They still all mostly see Bitcoin as being the one true coin to rule them all.  Much more than most of the diehards who found Bitcoin post Litecoin creation.

Amir has been in #monero-dev before - when we were trying to decide on an embedded database for our initial blockchaindb implementation, and were leaning towards LMDB, him and I got chatting about it in another channel and took it back to -dev. He basically sold us on LMDB. Beyond that I gather that he has no particular interest in Monero at this point, although he's at least aware of it.

Now if only Satoshi would write something about Monero in esperanto!! Smiley

I just realized Satoshi has a full wiki page in esperanto: http://eo.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satoshi_Nakamoto
coincidence? I would like to think not Tongue

Amir Taaki of current Darkwallet development learnt esperanto.

Knowing Amir political inclinations, dark wallet seems like a fairly poor project now that ring signatures are around.

Yeah but he's like 2010 bitcoin oldskool.  I don't think he'll start pumping any altcoins for a while if ever.  Although he has indirectly shown support for FairCoop.

You are probably right. Which is sad, because in an ideal world, supporting (or at least acknowledging) a privacy-wise infinitely superior technology should not be seen as "pumping".

Its inferior but he must have a lot of time and energy sunk into darkwallet and the other advantage is that its Bitcoin and not an alt, much wider adoption.

So its my understanding after listening to the latest Missive that the next daemon release you will be able to clean up dust without incurring a per KB fee using 0 mixin.  Will those that mine in a pool be allowed to keep their accumulated dust from emissions as it rolls over from pay out to payout.   Or will mining now only generate 2 places right of the decimal point (.25) ?

Thanks for any clarity on this.

The removal of dust is unrelated to fees - if you have dust it is still going to cost you to sweep it. Two things will change once we have implemented the MRL 4 recommendations:

1. No new dust will be created ever. This is part of the hard-fork changes, as it will mean that on a protocol level nodes will reject transactions that attempt to create unique outputs with no peers in the txoset (although, as a sidenote, new outputs without any txoset peers can be created in expectation of peers existing soon-ish, as long as it is complies with the ^10 / order of magnitude rule and thus isn't unmixable)

2. Existing dust can be spent at mixin 0, as long as the outputs the transaction creates comply with rule 1.

Thank you fluffypony.   Can you tell me what MRL 4 stands for.  I keep hearing and reading about it but not sure what it stands for.

MRL stands for Monero Research Lab. MRL 4 can be found here https://lab.getmonero.org/pubs/MRL-0004.pdf

So if I understand this correctly, for example 0.003475895753 XMR is considered dust but

0.003 XMR
0.0004 XMR
0.00007 XMR
0.000005 XMR
0.0000008 XMR
0.00000009 XMR
0.000000005 XMR
0.0000000007 XMR
0.00000000005 XMR
0.000000000003 XMR

are not considered dust.

Yes that's right. There might be some anti-spam rules about very, very small outputs that can be removed later if necessary. The full 12 digits are pretty silly right now, and maybe always (Bitcoin's 8 seems enough even with hypothetically trillions of dollars in capitalization), but in principle that are at least standardized and can be mixed if they are being used at all.
