What does everyone here think of the Masari fork off Monero?

I think most of us here probably don't give any fucks to be honest. Good luck with it, whatever it is. Tongue

Yes, Monero community has agreed to make hardforks regularly. But they are all expected and collectively accepted by community. If you want to evolve you need to make changes.
With this fork Bulletproofs will be added which should result in lower fees and other new features. Read this https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/9igfub/what_does_the_hard_fork_on_the_18th_of_october/ to get more info.
Bulletproofs, sounds good because this one can bring lower fees and several new features for Monero users.
So, what should I do to keep my coins safely during the forking period to come?

does this means that there will be many more versions of monero in the market? like many different versions of bitcoin?

No, unless a bunch of idiots decides to be idiots again.

For those of us running 0.12 of the wallet what is the recommended approach to upgrade to 0.13 now that it is released?

Build it from source or download binaries in the next week or so.

Monero was down almost throughout last week but the community is confident that the price action will change this week. This is because the developer community is making plans to release updates that will implement Bulletproofs and make the Monero platform ASIC mining resistant.

Keep reading backwards, ffs.....

You don't have to do anything but keep up to the latest code base basically:

well actually you don't have to do anything. If you are just holding coins... you can just forget about them. For a decade. And then at the end of that decade, figure out which monero client is the one that everyone uses and then access your coins.

i mean, unless you want to support the network and help make sure that the chain survives.

For some reason, I started to find much value and potential for XMR! Until then I did not have the slightest interest in this coin, but after a few weeks, everything changed suddenly! I'll be around in this thread as soon as possible to find discussions and discussions, and so on. What is the best wallet to keep XMR?
Linux CLI is best.
For android, I use monerujo (it's in the Google Play Store).
There's a shady android wallet called freewallet, or something like that.  Stay away from it.

If you have an issue with Freewallet, share more details, please, and we'll be glad to assist you in the resolution.

IIRC the issue is that freewallet was stealing peoples coins.

ahh here we go, RIGHT ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THE MONERO SUBREDDIT.

Monero (XMR) could pump hard next week! 18th oct hardfork  Roll Eyes
Hardfork again, really?
which sort of main purposes of the coming hardfork (18th of Oct)?
If I remembered exactly, the XMR had forked months ago.

Monero has a regular schedule of updates that are code forks, none of them are chain forks.

It is a vernacular distinction where as people have become afraid of the term fork in all its uses.

Monero forks are good things bringing Great improvements to the protocol level of the code.
