I can throw 0.1 btc if it is needed for XMR to get to mintpal. Do the votes stay all the time, or do they reset?

I'm against the entire buying votes idea, it ends up coming down to a risk/reward situation where you have to decide if spending 0.1 bitcoin is worth getting Monero on an exchange so that the increased value to your holdings grows beyond the spent 0.1 bitcoin. And to me that sounds like a pump and dump coin, which isn't at all what Monero is about.

Of course you might not even be interested in such things (P&D) but to an outside observer it just reeks of P&D.

I'm not really a fan of Mintpal.

I know I'm not very smart in these things but I just see it as little more exposure for the coin. Smiley I like Mintpal, I definately prefer it over poloniex for example. I think the price would go up naturally if more people get interested in the coin, and it's good to have it on popular trading websites already when they do.

Meh, disagree or at least don't think its an issue. I think your looking at it from a purely profit point of view where the sole reason for wanting to be on Mintpal is because you believe it will make the value of the coin increase.

Thats not the only reason for wanting to be on Mintpal.  I would pay .1 to be able to trade Monero on any exchange thats not Polo which is a POS to be honest. I don't trust their solvency, continually stuck deposits and withdrawals and the general bad UI. Plus don't even get me started on having to look at the retarded troll box everytime I want to look at the order book.

Thats purely a personal opinion but its more than enough reason to throw $60 at it. I agree with the premise of your point but I think there are more reasons for people wanting to be on Mintpal than purely to dump your coins.

I believe they stay for the whole time judging by some of the coins that are near the top!

Last night I downloaded the Windows wallet and left it for 6 hours downloading the block chain.

It started at "56 Days behind" and ended up completing.

Then this morning, when I launch the daemon, it starts downloading all over again !! - 56 days behind.

Any ideas why this is happening ?

type 'save' after download the block chain or before you exit deamon

Eight.

I see, do you think a final reward of 1 XMR might be just? I posted the suggestion in the Monero economy thread.

It is supposed to checkpoint to disk, but apparently it didn't. Double check that you don't have a disk problem (out of disk space, etc.) and once it syncs up the next time, type "save" in the daemon window.

Thanks for the tips. This coin really is for geeks (funny thing is - I AM one !). Now I can see why nobody's buying it - it's not even out of alpha yet.

ok, I've downloaded the blockchain but can't find any info as to where I should locate it. If I put it in the same folder as the daemon, then the log entry says 'Unable to load blockchain, creaating genesis block'. On the other hand, if I look in users/AppData/Roaming etc, there's no sign of a Monero folder created by the daemon.

If I downloaded the Windows binaries, do I still need to install any 3rd party support infrastructure (there was on cited on the Wallet download page but I forgot the name right now).

Thanks again for the tips !

EDIT: FOund where the blockchain goes - it's in a folder called 'bitmonero' in roaming, not monero.

Bitcoin itself was once a geeky skeletal framework. In fact in either case, it's not the coin itself that is geeky but rather the underlying technology. The task at hand is to bring the technology to the masses which is an evolutionary process.

How long will it be before all coins are mined?

I think it's 20 years or something, but this is only the initial supply. Afterwards a release of either a fixed amount or fixed percent will take over and exist for all time.

Some discussion taking place here:

To Monero devs and enthusiasts.

Do you think there is a reputable and trustworthy individual among you who would be interested to set up an exchange buro of Moneros on the NXT Asset Exchange? I noticed, not many centralized exchanges are willing to create XMR/BTC trading pairs, due to Monero differences in software from Bitcoin forks.

NXT AE allows someone to operate as an exchange buro and profit from setting the price of an asset and charge redemption commissions.

Since I really like NXT, this catches my attention. I will consider it.

Good. Qora users have set up their gateway yesterday, and there is already some demand from NXTers on the first day. Because Monero wallet is still not trivial to set up for non-technical users, I believe many would keep it as an asset on the NXT AE for convenience. Or redeem. Either way the gateway owner would profit from commissions and market making as the first seller, "droit du seigneur", as they used to say Smiley

well sure...my gpu's can crack a 6 character password in 3 hours, but i would be dead before i could crack a ten character.
25 GPU, 350 billions passwords per seconds. Your average pro miner can do it and this was two years ago.

Could someone post a link to a more recent record?

Being fixed in the pool code, but meanwhile, mine on smaller pools. Don't mine on a pool where you are much less than 1% of the pool hash rate.
Also mine in a pool closer to your location. Unrelated to dust, but closer = better connection = better effective hashrate = mone monero.

So, if the pools are sending dust to small miners, and dust gets eaten in transaction fees, how is this coin supposed to go mainstream. As in if the hashrate went up 10x it would just result in more dust.
